A lot of you guys have posted here at one time or another.. about people imposing on you, or you wondering if you should get involved.

SO here is my story.. I'll shorten this immensely.

We have friends... that have always called us when they needed money.
Why I still feel for these people I do not know. We loaned them more money than I want to disclose... THOUSANDS... to save their house from Foreclosure.
Always promising to pay us back. 3 weeks ago they were foreclosed upon.
This guy DID come into some money...and was SUPPOSED to pay us back.. but he did not.
He tried to settle with the mortgage company and they took his money... and he is STILL without a home.

His wife needs a Hysterectomy.. and they are evicted. He is ONCE AGAIN ASKING for $1500.00 for her COBRA so she can have the surgery.. AND so they can get into an apartment.

Mr Diz is having surgery tomorrow. I was wondering if you would send me $1000 to pay for this.

Seriously, I think they are taking advantage of your generosity. They are not able to pay you back, so keep that in mind.

My sister was complaining to me that she feels they are frequently taken advantage of. Her dh grew up in a single parent household where he had to get a job at 14 to help his mom pay the bills. They send money to his sister who is married and has 2 kids (the sis lives in a mobile home, so they are not trying to live above their means) and his mother. Also, he has been approached several times by the congregation to help those in need because they know he won't say no. For example, one lady lost her job and has a few kids and was about to get her electricity cut off. So my bil paid off several of her bills. My sis and her dh never ask for the money back, but they are at the point that they feel taken advantage of. They never take vacations and she commented to me once that maybe they could if they weren't always giving other people money.

I think it is great that people who can afford to help others out do, but also believe once you feel taken advantage of it's time to stop.

Okay- It's also in the bible not to be a borrower or lender. You work so hard to not have debt, but you're allowing these people to owe you. I think you know in your heart it's not the right thing to do. They are using you and putting you guys in a position you know isn't right. I hope you don't mind my tough love, but I know you and I have similar views of things.

No matter what you decide, we'll all love you no matter what.

As I meantioned... there is a lot of things INVOLVED here... including that fact that "Chris" ( I'll call him) keeps getting laid off... and his wife.. the SAME BAD LUCK. She is an Airline attendant.. currently with Delta.

HAD both of them had jobs when he came into some money earlier this year
I believe he would have paid us.. but he was unemployed.. as was she but still looking. So it scared him to pay us ( BTW he did pay back 1,600.00)
as it would any of us. He has not been able to keep a job since 2002.

He got a Job 3 months ago... BUT... It happened again last month.

A lot of my hurt/anger comes from the "Behind My BACK" money that Scott slipped him. When I cut him off.
This time... Scott told him that he had to call me. So far...NO CALL.

His wife has her Hysterrectomy scheduled for the 17th... She is the ONLY THING.. that is making me even consider doing this. She has 3 tumors they have found.

Also, anyone who has not been able to hold a job for that long isn't having bad luck- they are doing a bad job at work. Someone in my family is struggling with no job. I feel bad for him/her. But he/she didn't lose the job during lay-offs. He/she did something wrong and got fired.

What I would be doing is paying their Health Insurance... so it does not lapse BEFORE she has her surgery.

"Chris's" luck boils down to this. (BTW he's a salesman by trade. )
Last one hired.. first one fired.
He also has gone to work for two companies that I can think of that closed their doors.

Some of it is his fault. We tried to get him to work for us... just like we did.. straight comission... but he was afraid... and thought he NEEDED a salary. ( yeah we would have liked that too back in 2002)
HAD he worked for us.. he would most likely be pulling down 6 figures. Where he lives has more business that where we are. ( he's in NC)

He has a check coming from the State of NC for a Settlement against JK Harris for $5200. That should arrive in January.

Me! We ate there in August and it was really good. Basic sandwiches, and a Rueben to die for I would definitely make an ADR because it is not that big of a place, so seating is VERY limited.

I agree with a lot of what everyone else has said about your situation. Can you (or would you want to) talk with the wife and see what she says? Since "Chris" isn't calling.
I would do it for her (as long as helping them out doesn't put a strain on your family's finances), but I would also do what Dawn said and see if you can pay directly the insurance instead of give him the money. That way you know for sure that the money your giving is really going for that. Good luck with whatever you do decide to do.
