Oh For Pete's banana :banana: . I had to buy and new dryer and a new car this month! It's like a won the Price is Right except none of it is free. The timing is Fantasic. Everyone loves laying out money in December :rotfl:

Hello Sweet Fockers!

Great job, great job! :goodvibes

Thanks, Angela. :goodvibes

Everyone in my house is HURLING. Even the MIL.

Oh, NO!! Honey, I am SO sorry.

I hate staying with the folks I do because I'm only allowed to shower in the master bath's shower... which is located in their master suite... which means I have to wait for them to be done and out. Why? Because they had the tub in the second bathroom professionally cleaned when they moved in and they don't want any feet on the tub floor that their kids use to bathe. :confused3

OK, that's just bizarre.

Question of the day: do you wear underwear with pantyhose? I got frustrated with visible panty lines the other day and it suddenly occurred to me... PANTYhose - maybe I'm not supposed to be putting another layer under there in the first place!! :idea:

I always did - I had fairly strict dress code rules at my first university job - but I know that my mother never did/does. Personal choice, I think!

A butt is cleaner than feet?:confused3

:rotfl:

A lot of you guys have posted here at one time or another.. about people imposing on you, or you wondering if you should get involved.

Oh, honey. I'm sorry. Sounds like you've got some sound advice. I don't know what I'd do. Many, many :hug: :hug: :hug: .

I think it is great that people who can afford to help others out do, but also believe once you feel taken advantage of it's time to stop.

I think that's spot on.

When I got home from lunch with my friend (which I needed OH SO bad!) there were flowers from Flowers Direct on the step! From my darling, Bob!

The card says: Happy Birthday Muffin! I know it's not much but it's all I could manage......for now. Love, "Bob"

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

What a sweetheart. :)

Oh, no, Mrs. T! I'm so sorry. Freaking money... ;)

Have I vented about D's stepdad's party yet?

Sorry. A rant:

D's mom and stepdad like to throw lavish parties for themselves (or each other, depending on how you look at it) on their "big" birthdays.

D's stepdad is turning 80 in early Jan.

I love D's stepdad, and I have said here, over and over, that I get upset with D's mom giving us "preferential" treatment. She is so obviously more enamored of my kids - her only biological grandchildren, with 8 steps - that I am completley uncomfortable.

However.

We are now expected to attend a birthday party in the Chicago area on 1/10.

Even Southwest flights are going at over $125/person/each way.

And, gee, the kids have just started back to school on the 5th.

D has a brother and 6 step-siblings, and to be fair, we are the only ones out of state with school age kids - the others that live away either have no kids or the kids are in or out of college. The people who otherwise have kids (mostly in high school) live within a half-hour of the parents' house.

Anyway, I would be fine with not going, or only sending D. Because really, I don't want to spend nearly $1000 just after Christmas, for a 3 day weekend (that includes skipping a day of school just after the break) because it's just not practical. But his mom is laying on all sorts of guilt, and D himself, due to his cousin's situation, is feeling very "family oriented" so he's resistant to me and the boys staying home.

AAAAAAAARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

:)

So, I don't know where to go. On the one hand, I feel that due to my whole attitude about D's mom giving us preferential treatment, I should just shut up. On the other, I think it's ridiculous to expect a younger family to spend this money, travel just after a break, miss school, etc. for a short time, so why couldn't they have planned the party for 12/28 or something? :rotfl: And frankly, none of this would matter if his mom would just accept that we can't make it.

Darn it. :rolleyes: :rotfl2:

Any suggestions on how to handle?

*****************************************
I dealt with a monster headache most of the day. We had a super-fun tennis class this morning. :goodvibes I then went over to my friend's house to see the paint in her new basement and just chat and catch up.

Buzz had a swim lesson, then we came home and ate the crock-pot Italian beef that I so love.

D is stranded in Portugal - the plane broke. :headache: Hopefully he'll be home tomorrow! He was supposed to be home today.

Anyway...

Hope you all have a good night! :grouphug:

Hi guys!!

First of all, it seems like there are a few of you that need some hugs!:hug: :hug:

Secondly, some of you need to know that it is OK to say no. Say it with me - NO. You don't have to scream it. It is pretty much universally understood. No. You can even soften it up a bit with, "I'm sorry, but no." There is no shame in drawing a line in the sand. More for yourself than anyone else. No, no, no. When someone tells me this, I know exactly where I stand. I wish I could help every living soul with problems. I have a big heart too. But no. I can't put myself into hardship or chance ill feelings especially when it involves money. So once in a while I say no in hopes that I can say YES when it counts.

Kat - Love the tree! and the cat!

Mel - Great flowers!

SAY NO, if that's your answer. They'll deal.

So, Gus is going back to school today! YAY! The MIL is in the shower, and not in bed so I'm assumng she's somewhat better today. SD never barfed but he did feel nauseaus which he says has gone away. He's home though, until he can eat.

Gee Whiz. Would they be willing to give you the money for the airfare? Sometimes Old people have money they would rather spend than not see you.

Love the NO thing! I need to learn that in a hard way!

Did you guys see that Zzub's trip report got deleted? Apparently it was not family friendly. I thought it was really family friendly.

Hooray!

Great advice. :goodvibes I guess I just have to decide if saying no will be worth the total aggravation that will follow, and no one can help me decide that. :hug:

*********************************************
Good morning!

I am volunteering for my normal Friday half-hour this morning, then I'm meeting my friend to do some shopping. I did get inspired the other night and at least have made my list of what people I need to buy for - not that I have any idea what I'm buying, but oh well.

The friend whose basement I went to see yesterday called last night. She's the one who's the pilot, as well, and her DH is with D, stuck in Portugal. (I should check, they could be on their way home by now, though.) Anyway, her sitter had family plans tonight, and my friend had said, "Oh, we won't need you," and it would be hard for her to change, so I am picking up her DD's after they get out of school. I'll hang on to the kids until D & her DH come back - they drove down to the airport together, anyway. :thumbsup2

So, it's looking like a busy day!

I need a shower, but wanted to check in. Have a great day, everyone! :grouphug:

Gee Whiz. Would they be willing to give you the money for the airfare? Sometimes Old people have money they would rather spend than not see you.

Yes, they are very wealthy. It may come down to that, but I'm still cranky about the timing issue. :rotfl: Oh, well. D & I will really have to talk it out.

Did you guys see that Zzub's trip report got deleted? Apparently it was not family friendly. I thought it was really family friendly.

Wow, I wasn't reading this one - I did the last couple, but for whatever reason, not the new one - but that surprises me.

Did you guys see that Zzub's trip report got deleted? Apparently it was not family friendly. I thought it was really family friendly.

When I saw it yesterday, it had been moved to the Community Boards by the mods. I'm not sure why though, although the name of it was mentioned... "The Trip Report that isn't a Trip Report." Of course, it was very much a trip report. There was much discussion about why it was moved and some complaining that the mods had moved it, but I didn't read anything un-family friendly. That's ridiculous! I hope it's back soon. But then again, Buzz's report never returned. :sad2:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, this is a bit of a drive by post. I was gone most of yesterday and will be out and about most of today too. My old MOPS group is having a silent auction this morning and the girl that used to run it with me just called. She has a sick kid and so does the other girl in charge, so she asked if I could help run the auction! SO, instead of just going, relaxing and buying stuff, I'm now helping out!
Hopefully I'll be able to check in again this afternoon. Have a great day!
I wear only one layer! :rolleyes1
:rotfl2: Thanks for chiming in on the issue!
Have I vented about D's stepdad's party yet?
Ugh, I'm sorry CE. :hug: I can't give any good advice I'm afraid; there's a reason I don't ever want to be married again - I'm completely unwilling to work toward compromises in these situations. NOT the way to support a healthy marriage, lol!
This cold/broncitis is really wearing me out !!
You too Rosie?! :hug: Feel better.
Did you guys see that Zzub's trip report got deleted?
It's GONE now? I saw that it was moved to the CB - which completely perplexed me - but why on earth was it zapped entirely? I get wanting to be "family-friendly", and there were some off-color comments, but A. the same types of comments have been in other TRs, and B. why not just give some warnings to the commenters and delete those posts?
~sigh~
I'll shut up now, lest I find myself going POOF!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So... I'm back to cell phones. It turns out, I can get a pay-as-you-go Sidekick to have Internet/email/etc. when I want it - exactly what I need, since I won't use it regularly, just want the ability. BUT, those Sidekicks are freaking ginormous! I need something much, much smaller, so I'm still looking...
Big football weekend: GATORS vs. ALABAMA! :cheer2: My stomach is in knots already over this game.
This sounds like my mother! Be all passive aggressive about it. :headache:
There was a letter to Dear Abby from the mother of a teenage boy who asked a girl to a dance. Instead of saying no so he could find another date, she said I'll have to get back to you. And then of course didn't. The mother's point was teenage girls need to learn to be clear about what they want and if it's no, it's no, just say it. So we don't have such a hard time saying it later in life. :hug:
This cold/broncitis is really wearing me out
You feel better too! :hug:
Tiggerbell and I had a lovely time at The Wave last night. The food tasted much better than the menu reads. She ran into some people she knew there too. Love the DIS. :disrocks: I was very disappointed in the Christmas decorations at the Contemporary though. Almost nonexistent. Maybe that's the contemporary was of decorating, who knows? :confused3
I'm off to see Jo and Jen in a little while. I hope she gives us some insider info! :woohoo:
::yes:: We really enjoyed it, too. What did you have? I tried the filet and Gramma had the vegetable stew.
It's always been kind of low-key, but there was definitely MORE of it in previous years. :sad2:
Have fun with Jen and Jo!
Good morning. :goodvibes I'm about to head out to the eye doctor and to pick up my pictures of the kids. I hope this solves the contacts thing. :sad2:
Dang, you have a good memory. I'm near Hershey. There probably will be a decent crowd. I like going when they open that way we get the most popular rides in.
Thanks! They open at noon so we are planning to get there just as they open, stay until dinner timeish and then do the holiday lights display and head home...unless it starts snowing, then we are outta there!;)
I finally Heard from "Chris".
I'll fill you in tomorrow.
Have I vented about D's stepdad's party yet?
I would just keep checking airline prices and see if they come down a bit as the date gets closer. If they don't I would tell them that we can't make it, JMO!
Hey, that's my line!:lmao:
Hi Dawn :wave2:
"Chris".. Part Deux
"Chris" finally called me yesterday evening and I gave him a list of demands which included him driving up here AND us getting "documentation" notarized about the previous funds and current funds , amounts and "payback".
This is mostly for our records. And if we need to, I can then claim that on my taxes and money NOT MADE... He in turn would be forced to acknowledge the "loan amounts" and it would become Potentially TAXABLE. To which he agreed.
I get a call from him at the time HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN TOWN.. trying to force my hand... "Put the Money in his Branch Bank up here into HIS ACCOUNT...
Send him my Forms he would have it Notarized and mail it right Back." I agreed to him bringing me the bills and I paying them .
I explained that would not work for various reasons. Also making some excuse about wanting to see him and chatting for a while. :rolleyes:
In short... he had not left N.C yet... gave an excuse about his car hopefully making it( which it's true... that car is in BAD SHAPE) I guess he was hoping I would back down... trust him to actually sign and do Notary ( which would not work... both parties needed to be there for this) and MAIL IT BACK. Scott has asked for this form from him for 2 years.So I knew it would NOT come back.
So... We'll see IF he shows up.....
Stay TUNED....
This just may be the last time I ever hear from him again.
Grrrrr Scott:headache:
SOunds like he is trying to come up with excuses not to see you Katt. It may be a blessing if he doesn't show. How long of a driv e would it be for him?
There's some virus going around...so I don't know if I have that too. But, I need a bed, a blankie, and some Nyquil.
