TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Good Morning!

Just checking in. I have been journaling on Sparkpeople & staying within my goals for calories. I did go over my limit for fat one day, but overall a good week so far (especially considering the time of the month that it is ).

I got up and onto the exercise bike this morning before breakfast for 25minutes & used my 3lb weights while I was up there for a little arm work. Then I took the dog for a brisk 10 minute walk once I got the kids out the door, so as of now I seem to have burned as many calories as I have taken in today :cool1:

Hoping that everyone has a great day, and a great weigh in tomorrow!!!

Hello Donalds!:goodvibes I've had a short busy spell with some clubs I'm involved with and it's been nice. Went to Happy Hour last night with my International Womern's Club and stayed from 6:30-9:30:scared1: Went hiking today with my Wandren Club. We hiked the Berg Teck. It was absolutely beautiful, old castle at the top of a very steep hill in the Swabisch Alps. It's within an hour's drive of here but had lots of snow since higher elevation. It was a tough hike for me but I did it! We found a cave with huge thick icicles on the floor of the cave where the water repeatedly dropped down in the same place. They looked like fat mushrooms with long stems! They also looked like 8 inch something elses that I can't mention here but use your imagination:lmao: It was hilarious! I broke one off to show the other ladies who weren't brake enough to venture into the cave. We were howling:rotfl2: There were 3 dogs with us and they had fun romping around in the snow and playing with each other.

I'm up a little today I guess from HH last night. Ate some salty foods. So tired of going up and down and up and down. I need to break out of this rut and get the scale to go down to a lower set of numbers for me to go up and down on!:thumbsup2

I've gotten several good responses to my post on the UK board for tips on what to see and do and eat in Paris:goodvibes The coolest one is that you can go to the Louvre website and get a personalized tour, depending on what you are interested in They take about 1.5 hours. I think we might do masterpieces one day and Da Vinci Code the next.

50'sJayne: I've been to Multnomah Falls! So beautiful! I didn't see it frozen though. Also been to several other waterfalls in the Portland area, and they are all beautiful! Some very good hiking. We also went to Tilamook and Mt Saint Helens when we were in that area about 15 years ago.

QOTD: At first, if all my equipment was lost, I would panic. My first thought would be that I would have to quit my weight loss efforts. But hopefully, I would look beyond that and see what I could do in the meantime until I was able to replace the items. I know what foods are healthy and what foods are not. I know to manage my portions and drink plenty of water and get plenty of sleep. I would have to replace my shoes first because I can not do any exercise without my New Balance shoes due to my feet problems. This is a good metaphor for what happens to me on vacation, or on a praticularly busy day or when I go to a party or eat at a buffet, etc. My first thought it oh well, I won't be able to follow any plan on those days, I'll just have to eat whatever I want to! But if you take the time to plan and use common sense you don't have to get totatlly derailed on those days! Excellent question! Maureen you have done a great job this week:hug: We really appreciate it!

Well, I am not going on the trip with my girlfriend this weekend, she has backed out and just wants to stay home. I'm really bummed but will try to do something fun with my family instead. We might try to stay up late and watch the first half of the Super Bowl. We don't have school on Monday.

Good luck at weigh-in tomorrow !

Sounds like a great hike! You can almost forget you are exercising when you have that much fun!!

You are absolutely right about planning & common sense.....I have been de-railed too many times in the past by not planning, and not putting my own well being first.

Ack-Finally come up for air..

This week has been rough mentally and physically but still trying to barrel though.. Now on day 2 of not being able to get my standard workout in (Had maintenance here yesterday all morning, back today and had 30 min of fighting with the cable company) but since I rediscovered the rather well equipped cast fitness room last night to get my run in I'll just head there after work again today to get my time in...

Food has been another issue since my stress go to is food but I have so far maintained so while its not a loss- I wont complain so far (Today WILL be a better day)

Good morning Team Donald. I haven't posted much in the last week or so. I started a microcomputing course that goes 2 nights a week. I also now sing with the praise and worship team at Aaron's church (I might be converting). My schedule got insanely busy last week between the auditions, class, dance practice, and actually having school! I'm ashamed to say I fell off the wagon big time. I had a .4 loss that I submitted last week, but when I went last night I gained 1.2. I'm sorry to let the team down. I am going to start posting everything I eat on my WISH journal as I think that will definitely give me a lot more motivation to eat healthy.

I am meeting with a dietician today to discuss vegetarianism with diabetes (I am giving up meat for lent!) I will be calling the trainer I was working with to schedule my last session. After not being able to work out for 2 weeks, the cyst magically went away. It was nice not to have to worry about surgery!

:wave2: Productive morning. Have the chicken marinating for tonight, made a soup I wanted to try (Mushroom Barley from OAMM and it is yummy!), and made a veggie dip to help encourage me to get some more of those veggies in.

Have several things to do today so will be coming and going all day. Looks like we are going to try to do a Ladies Night Out tomorrow night at the Mexican restaurant. :headache: Have to try to make some good choices again.
This has not been the coaching week I envisioned.
You have done a great job. Thanks for volunteering. :)

Everyone have a great and Healthy day!

I hate to say it, but I'm the fat lady in the picture!

Shawnprincess:

For a few minutes anyway.

I'm sorry. Today was way more busy than I anticipated. Went to work, filled out application and had a quickie interview at Molly Maid. Came home, got tax stuff straightened out. Then walked the dog real quick. Somewhere in there was supper , and then off to church for my usual Weds. night RCIA class.

Don't have time for replies, because i gotta be up at 5:30am and I like to write novels. I promise to do my best tomorrow on my last day. This has not been the coaching week I envisioned.

You did just FINE this week! Don't beat yourself up about it. You did far better than I did last fall with a week that I TOTALLY didn't get on my schedule and by coincidence I was off the computer for about the first 3-4 days of that week!! :scared1: Imagine my horror when I checked the boards and realized that you all had been worried about me!!

OK, I'm kind of winging it for this 1. Had all the others planned out but never thought of a last question. So we'll kind of build on Weds.

Take a look at your equipment list. If EVERYTHING on it was lost, how would this affect you? How would it change your routine until you could replace it all?

This is a GREAT question! It really makes you think!

Well... for the food scale and measuring items... I could wing it. After three years of doing this I have a pretty good idea about portion sizes most of the time. But I continue to measure/weigh some of the higher point items to help keep me honest (meats, p.butter, salad dressings, hummus, starches like rice and potatoes).

No treadmill?? I guess I'd resort to walking/running outside, but at this time of year I don't think I'd keep it up for long! I guess I'd resort back to good old WATP videos!

Running shoes gone?? I suppose I could make due for a while with my "everyday" sneakers. Actually, I used to do the WATP videos barefoot (on the carpeting in the living room) all the time.

Music player gone?? Well..... that I would really miss. I suppose I could sing outloud to myself!!

Not sure whatelse I mentioned in my list. Anyhow.... it would definitely make me think MORE. It CAN be done without all of the fancy bells and whistles. Walking is (nearly) free, everyone owns measuring cups/spoons, exercise videos can be gotten at the library. I get really tired of people talking about how they "can't" lose weight because they don't have the $$.... but meanwhile they spend PLENTY at McDonald's, etc. I have spent exactly $000on Weight Watchers over the past three years. Granted, they got plenty of my money in the past and it helped me KNOW where/how to begin (to some extent). But so much of this I have learned ON MY OWN as I have taken this journey. Sparkpeople is free, calorie counting is free, books from the library are free!

You didn't let us down... so don't apologize. I'm sure we ALL just wish we could be there with you to give some help.

I'd love to hear more about your meeting with the dietician. We are eating less and less meat around here and I'd love to hear some new ideas.

Okayl.... I'm gonna need more to go on that that, because you all look just fine to me!!

Good afternoon friends! Well.... you know the old saying, "be careful what you wish for"??? Well.... I wished that I didn't have to snowblow anymore snow... and I got what I wished for.... the snowblower BROKE!! I went out to use it about 2:30 yesterday afternoon, after the majority of the snow had stopped... and it seems like a belt or something broke. Can't quite tell what yet. So our huge driveway (well.... it seems huge when it is covered with snow ;) ) had to be shoveled by hand. As soon as I realized this I went in and told both of the kids to get on their boots and coats and come out immediately. I knew they were going to crab and complain, but TOUGH LUCK! The worst part of the entire thing was the complaining and bickering from the kids, but I told them SUCK IT UP AND DEAL (well.... not in those words exactly, but I was definitely thinking that!). The three of us got the driveway pretty well cleared in about an hour. But we gave up before we excavated out the mailbox..... we may not be getting mail at our house until JUNE!!:rotfl:

DH is hoping to be able to take a look at it with me tomorrow. He is still working with just his left hand, but if I can be his "hands" and take things apart, he should be able to diagnose the problem and order the part and then hopefully I can do the repair. But probably NOT before the next storm arrives on Saturday. I might end up calling a neighbor and asking him if he would be willing to snowblow our driveway for $25 after he finishes his on Saturday.

So, needless to say, I got my workout again yesterday with a shovel in my hand. It was a terrific workout... and it shows me how strong I've become over the past few years. Even with all of this shoveling, I haven't had sore arms or a sore back at all!

Okay...... question for everyone. Like I mentioned, we got NetFlix for Christmas. But I can't seem to come up with any new ideas of what to order for family movies. Obviously we have SEEN most every Disney movie known to man!!;) And pretty much anything labeled "family" that has come out since about 1995 we have tried. But now I'm stumped. The kids are old enough that we can do PG-13 without much trouble. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? We like comedies and some action/adventure. I'd love some ideas of stuff to put in our queue.

And for myself..... I LOVE documentaries. Any good suggestions in that genre??

Well.... I'm up at the ski mountain with DS. Today is the last day of snowboarding lessons!! I can't really complain. With all that has gone on lately, I haven't really been up here with him much. DH took him last week, a friend took him the week before that, so I haven't had to kill much time here yet this year. But I'm cold!! (and hungry.... but I brought a snack and will buy a cup of coffee to have with my snack later.)

***POSSIBLE TMI WARNING** BTW.... sorry if this is TMI, but Aunt Flo FINALLY made her appearance.... nothing like being very late! I had sort of given up on her for this month, but I could tell by the way I was feeling that she was trying to get here. Anyhow, I'm not holding out ANY hope for tomorrow's weigh-in. I've been feeling more and more icky and bloated since about Tuesday and I don't think that will be gone by tomorrow. oh well.

I'll be back later!.........................P

I hate to say it, but I'm the fat lady in the picture!

Shawnprincess:

:confused3Anyone else have no idea which one she is?

After my pep talk about staying on program and getting some losses in I think I just blew mine for the day. I was already teetering on the edge for the week with the naked cake debacle and then today my stomach was hurting bad. I had my wonderfully healthy soup but had so much burning I had to have something more so I had a PB&J and a serving of tortilla chips and some antacid. Felt a little better but not much. Got a nonfat Starbucks Mocha on the way home and that is helping. I think just filling my stomach with milk is the key. But since I am on strict low carb and low sugar I have really blown it for the day. And I felt too bad to exercise. :(

Oh my I got a late start today with everything because I came home from taking dd all the way to school because we were running a couple minutes behind heading to bus stop and no bus came while we waited a good 15 minutes. I have had very very poor luck with busing. Anyway nothing to eat(well semi-healthy) in the house is good motivation to go grocery shopping so I went then came home and had multigrain cheerios with almond milk and a banana sliced in it. I still need to go to the farmers market for some stuff but I got some stuff to make salad. Zoe requested spaghetti tonight for dinner. She loves her spaghetti. I haven't ate a real lunch I had 2 servings of Doritos as a snack because lets get real who eats 12 chips. :confused3 I'm measuring them so I don't feel guilty at all. Well I did at first but only because I was being tempted to skip my workout. BUT I didn't and trekked on to do my Walk Away the pounds for 45 minutes. Want to make sure I earn some extra calories so I can enjoy that spaghetti tonight. So far still no "lunch" but I'm feeling hungry so will go fix something up. I have left over chicken and lentil curry with rice so I should eat that before it goes bad.

I'm excited for weigh in this week. I think I've done well and the scale has been down so we will see in the morning. :rolleyes1

pjlla,
LOL at the no shoes with WATP. I usually wear shoes but ex hubby did it without quite a bit. I never thought to try it like that but I secretly love yoga in part because of the no shoes required. I don't like to wear shoes, especially inside.

Shawn,
I'm with pjlla. All of you look just fine to me too. :confused3

Okay I need to eat some lunch so I don't over do it on the spaghetti tonight.

I'm sorry to let the team down. I am going to start posting everything I eat on my WISH journal as I think that will definitely give me a lot more motivation to eat healthy.
DON'T feel as if you are letting anyone down!!!!!! We are all in this together, to provide support and encouragement. yup, it might be defined as a "competition" but really, the only thing we are competing against is our own bad habits. We didn't put this weight on overnight so why should we think we can conquer it overnight???

I hate to say it, but I'm the fat lady in the picture!

Shawnprincess:

I see NO fat ladies in the picture!! I see several grinning, happy women. I think we all need to cut ourselves a little slack. Is that too preach-y? I don't mean it to be. Just that you all look like you are having a great day in the pictures - hold onto that rather than what the scale might say.....

Shawn, I went to school in Geislingen at the Michelsberg Gymnasium, in the Schwabischen Albs. I lived with a host family in a little village called Deggingen.

our monster storm turned into something "meh" because we ended up with more sleet than snow. 14 inches of snow, then sleet on top of it. I am looking forward to the day when our temp gets out of the teens again!!!:beach:

...I'll check back later!!!:goodvibes

Evening everybody

Went to work, spent my day annoyed(Who buys their toothbrush at a pawn shop:confused: ) Yes, its a real question.

Anyway, here is the last round of replies to my coaching week. It has been a lot of fun and I always learn a few things when I coach. Which is why i volunteer. Thank you all for suffering through with me:laughing:

Dona: Glad that exams are done. And now you can reward yourself for having missed the goodies in the cafeteria.

And I echo LTS and Dona. A simple, Hi, how are y’all will be just dandy. I’m writing novels this week because I’m coach. Next week no novels from me. But I will do a better job of popping in and saying Hi. I swear.

Jbm02: I can’t post from work either. Heck, I don’t even have a smart phone to READ posts at work. I have to come home and play catch up. Sorry that your post got eaten.

Dreamer: Sounds like a good plan. And don’t worry about the bathing suit. I’m sure you’ll be absolutely amazed at how good you’ll look in it when you pull it on.

Kathy: I think the interview went fine. Was really just a quick 1. Waiting to see if I get called for a more formal one by the owner. Not really sure if they are the right fit for me. But we’ll just see what happens.

Chris: Glad you’re on track and having a good week. Good luck with weigh in the morning.

Shawn: Great job on the hike. Sounds like a blast. We don’t have anywhere like that around here. We have some parks but not nearly as challenging.

But if you take the time to plan and use common sense you don't have to get totatlly derailed on those days!

Exactly right. Momentary panic is understandable, even expected. But a few minutes to think it through and you should be able to find your way.

Emily: Sorry to hear you’re having a rough week. We’ve all been there. But I hope you enjoy using the cast fitness room.

Jessi: My goodness that sounds like an insane week. Hope your class goes well. Good luck with going vegetarian for Lent. I just can’t get that far with it. It’s enough for me to give it up on Fridays. Though this year, I should concentrate on replacing it with healthier meals than I have in the past. Good thing we still have a few weeks left before it starts. Thanks for getting me thinking about it.

And SOO Glad to hear you’ve avoided surgery. That’s always a plus.

LTS: Supper sounds oh so yummy. You should come cook at my house.

Shawn: Fabulous pics. And I agree with everyone else. I don’t see a fat lady in the bunch. Thanks for posting them.

pjilla:

You did far better than I did last fall with a week that I TOTALLY didn't get on my schedule and by coincidence I was off the computer for about the first 3-4 days of that week!! Imagine my horror when I checked the boards and realized that you all had been worried about me!!

OMG. I must have missed that myself. I felt like I hardly came up for air in the Fall Challenge.

Sparkpeople is free, calorie counting is free, books from the library are free!

Yes, it certainly can be done. And I agree with you. Don’t complain you can’t lose weight if every lunch comes from McDonalds. You’ll be right, but it’ll also be your own fault. And I don’t want to hear about it when it is.

That is bother about your Snowblower. But at least you had the shovels and got the kids outside. And with any luck you’ll see your mailbox by April I hope the next storm doesn’t dump too much on you. Our extended forecast here is listed as “Stay Tuned” I don’t want to know what that means.

LTS: Sorry that your day did not go as planned. I hope you’re feeling better now and find yourself back on track tomorrow. Just sing like Little Orphan Annie(I have NO IDEA why that popped into my head)

Melissa: You measure your chips? That’s awesome. I NEVER measure chips. Which is why we have them in the house much less these days. I’m sure you all know where I was going with that.:rolleyes1

And spaghetti is another 1 of my weaknesses. There are times when I can eat it all week long. I don’t but I could sometimes. Good Irish Lass I am

Ok, be back a little later. Have a good evening y'all:wizard:

Hi Donalds! Just jumping in for a quick hello before I start working from home. Good luck on tomorrow's weigh in :goodvibes

Thanks. I think I will sit and watch it with ds one night. I'm loving netflix. I ordered it sunday, got my first dvd tuesday- Up in the Air, and started watching it, and realized I had seen it already, :lmao: I'm so senile. I did the 10$ plan with 1 dvd and the wii, but there's so many on the wii, and I cut my cable bill down by 40$. I thought michael might have been upset about losign disney and nickelodeon, but he's enjoying the netflix.

We love out Netflix  I'm not sure if it's more money or not, but you can actually watch some movies instantly on your computer, Xbox and maybe even the Wii. We've done it with the computer and Xbox, so you don't have to wait for the mail to come. I wonder if it works with the Wii too?

Plla, have you seen The Blind Side yet? LOVED it (and so did DH, DS and DD!)

Other favs:
Invincible
Band of Brothers (not sure if it is available on netflix yet)
Remember the Titans
Ms. Congeniality (old, but fun)
National Treasure
Planet Earth (I think this is a PBS one...)
Rudy

Hope this helps!!
Jude :goodvibes

Welcome to Healthy Habits!

My name is CC (short for Christina) and I will be your Healthy Habits coach for BL 11. I love the BL challenges and Healthy Habits has helped me significantly in achieving many of my goals.

Some Background Information: Thanks to donac (Dona-hostess of Team Donald) and jenanderson for their amazing help so I know how to coach! I couldn’t do this without seeing them in action previously. I will be continuing the prizes that Jen started.

Here’s How Healthy Habits Works: Each week there will be 3 Healthy Habits (HH) to complete. The first two HHs will always be drinking water and exercising. (Note: The amount and time will increase throughout the challenge!) At the end of each week, you will tally up the number of points you earned for the week and send me a private message with your total. Here’s an example. For Week 1, the 3 HHs are drink Six 8 oz. glasses of water a day, exercise a minimum of 20 minutes per day, and eat at least 3 servings of vegetables a day. If on 4 days you get in all 3 HHs, you would report your points like this:

4/6 days of drinking water
4/6 days of exercising
4/6 days of eating veggies

Your total points (ex: 12/18) AND your team name should be in the subject of your PM.

This is a team competition. On/about Tuesday evening, I will post the week’s results. I will share the number of participants on each team and the top scorers on each team. New for BL 11: I will also list the people who earned 7/7 on one or more of the HHs for the week. If you participated on the team with the most participants, you will be entered into a drawing for the week's prize. Each prize will have something to do with the 3rd Healthy Habit for the week. I will post the winner and ask that you PM me your contact information. (Please Note: If you do not wish to be entered into the drawing, please let me know in your PM. I understand people’s WISHes for privacy.)

Participation in Healthy Habits is entirely optional, but I encourage you to participate and help your team be on top for the week. Good luck on your journey and I hope that HHs helps you as much as it continues to help me!

Welcome to Health Habits Week 6

Week 6 is 2/4-2/10.

This week's 3 Healthy Habits are:
1) Drink Eight 8 oz. glasses of water.
2) Exercise a minimum of 25 minutes a day.
3) Give at least one person a compliment each day.

At the end of the week, please PM me your points. I will post the results on/about Tuesday. Don't forget, this is a team competition!

Remember, every participant counts, regardless of the number of points you earn!

If you have any questions, please free to ask!

Plla, have you seen The Blind Side yet? LOVED it (and so did DH, DS and DD!)

Other favs:
Invincible
Band of Brothers (not sure if it is available on netflix yet) It's a must see!!!! This is DH's and DS14's favorite series!! I seem to remember lots of cussing though.

Ms. Congeniality (old, but fun) soooo funny!!! The second one, eh, not so much
National Treasure love 1 and 2, hoping for a third
Planet Earth (I think this is a PBS one...)
Rudy oh another good one!

Hope this helps!!
Jude :goodvibes

Don't forget the Proposal if you like comedies. Mild nudity though, I keep forgetting how old Pjlla's kids are.

We just watched Enchanted again, DS14 even sat through that.
Tangled should be out soon. That was really good, even the boys liked it.
Alice in Wonderland
August Rush (really good!, little sex scene in the beginning but the premise of the story is based on that)
Finding Forrester
Forrest Gump
King Arthur
Planet 51
Taken (scary but wow, good movie!!)
Wind - Oldie but a goodie
World's Fastest Indian

Can you tell I surfed my iTunes acct??? DH and I are movie junkies. I don't even have his list, but we probably own 2000+ DVD's and iTunes movies.

Hi guys, I am back after quite the last 2 weeks!! Let's see my car blew an engine, a battle with the IRS, learning my Mom has mild dementia(she's 85 - and passing on a real estate transaction from hell - other than that I a mjust fine:lmao::rotfl2:

I am the coach for the week 2/4 - 2/10 - gonna do my best if I fall down just poke me :worship::thumbsup2

So gonna be a bit early with tomorrow QOTD, in case work gets busy in the am.

2/4 Friday QOTD: Who is your diet saboteur? How do you deal with her/him or them ?

Mine is a very good skinny friend who thinks "just one bite won't hurt!" Well it won't hurt her but my thighs will be wounded for days. I have learned to question her to her face. I don't tell her I am on a diet, but do ask her if she would offer a alcoholic a drink, or a drug addict a joint - same principle.
