TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Morning Donalds! Hope everyone that has a day off today enjoys it :goodvibes DS and I are off, but DH has to work. Guess we'll play while he's away ;)

Going to be an easy day around here while we recouperate from our bugs. I'm feeling better but am waiting for DS to wake up to be sure that he doesn't have strep throat that was making the rounds at school. He has finals next week so there may be a trip to Urgent Care in our future.

Hope your DS doesn't have strep

I had a loss, which really surprised me.

Now that's a nice surprise. Good job :thumbsup2

Any supported needed is always available!!!!!

Does that include support for last nights poor display? Ugh, shame on those Pats :headache: Guess that frees up my Sunday's.

Good morning all. I have to catch up with the QOTD.
Favorite veggie: I love everything but brussel sprouts. I am really into sweet potatoes right now. I bake them, spray some butter spray on them and a drizzle of honey. Very filling and full of antioxidents!

Getting back on track: You have to write down what you eat. If you bite it, write it. Seeing it in black and white really hits home with me.

How do I avoid eating when I'm not really hungry? This is tough for me as I am an emotional eater and also if food is there I will eat it. I am purging the house of most junk, so that helps. I also just try to keep busy so I don't think about it. That's why I do so much better during the week than on weekends.

I know I'm SO SAD!!!!!! I wish we could get support! But as my brother said to me, KG is back tonight and the Red Sox will be back soon! Bruins are also playing pretty well!

Just don't let the depression bring on the excessive eating!

Going out to dinner tonight for DSIL's birthday. I need to study the menu to see what I should get. I'm going to drink lots of water today and hopefully get in a workout later. I do have to do my EASA2 workout at some point!

BB/BS is here picking up our donations! Glad all that stuff is out of my house! They come once a month so I have another month to get more stuff together. I want to clean out some of the kids old toys too! I vow to get this house in order this year. No more messes!!!!!

TTFN :tigger:

 Up waaaaaaay to early for a no school day. I usually would sleep until 9am but I am getting my new refrigerator delivered so I had to get up.

Ooops, they are here. Back later for the QOTD.

What is your favorite way to get yourself back on track?
I try not to beat myself up, and forget about what I may have just eaten, and get some exercise in, either some wii fit, or get out for a walk. Also, go to the grocery and stock up and make a meal plan for the week which includes lots of healthy leftovers. Start fresh, no matter how many times I may have to do that, a fresh start is definitely better than throwing it all to the wind and giving up. I know it's taking years to lose a small amount of weight, but I also know if I gave up and keep on trying, I would have gained back all I've lost, plus 20, 40 50 more pounds. I know, because I've done it before.

Hang in there everyone who is struggling this week. We can do this, and every day is a new day, every little change we make will add up. Never give up!!!

HAd to share a laugh. My mom bought Sophie an EDWARD TWILIGHT BARBIE.:lmao: She missed the whole Twilight part of it, just bought him because his name was Edward, which was Daddy's name. Sophie would have never known, if AK hadn't said "That's a twilight Barbie, Granny". Sophie kinda looked at him oddly, I was scrambling and said "look Sophie, he's sparkly!" She looked harder and ran and hugged mom and said "thank you so much for the sparkly Barbie man, Granny".:lmao: Later, she was playing with him and the Belle Barbie from her great grandmother and said to MIL, "let's pretend that he's a real man, just a sparkly one. Not a vampire"
:rotfl2:

I know I'm SO SAD.
I thought of you last night, Tracey. Hang in there. Dang pats. I'm glad I'm not at work because so many of the people I work with will not be happy today.

It stinks b/c I can't vacation much from Jan - mid April and my huband is blocked Jan - Mar then gets busy again mid April for a few weeks. Anyway every May we plan a big trip, so I'm looking forward to that.

When I head to work and see the snowy sidewalks I think about you and wonder if you're out there or not.
That does stink about jan-april. My brother works a second accounting job during tax season, so I know it's hard. But this year, it worked out well since sil and niece are coming with us in feb.
I had to change my route. I'm going down by the high school now for the longer, quieter streets so I can run/walk in the street. I will be happy when the snow is all gone.
Enjoy your day off today.

QOTD Sunday 1/16/2011 - How do you avoid eating for reasons other than your body being truly hungary?
Great question. Making me think. Night time snacking is really hard for me, and if I am scouring the kitchen looking for something chocolate, or sweet to eat, I am not really hungry. There's always a big bowl of fruit on the table, so if I'm really hungry, that's what I would go for. I need to definitely be more aware of what I eat all the time, especially at night. Tracking really helps. I can sea if it's only been a hour since dinner, and I'm looking for food, I'm not truly hungry. I will sometime have a cup of tea, and the will satisfy me.

Not one weigh in this morning! Come on everybody! It's too early to stop getting healthy! We are a great group!!!!! Any supported needed is always available!!!!!

TTFN :tigger:
:thumbsup2

Guess that frees up my Sunday's.
:rotfl2:Love the positive thinking.

 Up waaaaaaay to early for a no school day. I usually would sleep until 9am but I am getting my new refrigerator delivered so I had to get up.

Ooops, they are here. Back later for the QOTD.
Yay for your new fridge!!!

Dona- enjoy your time to yourself. You don't get that very often.

Good morning donalds!! I'm off today, and got up and did wii fit for 30 min, and after bkfst we're heading into the museum of science. Glad we went sledding yesterday since it's very cold this morning. Eating wasn't the best yesterday, but I did track it all, and used up most of my weekly ww points. Guess that's what they are there for, but I'd like to see a better number on the scale this week.

Have a great day everyone!!

Ugh. I severely fell off the wagon this weekend. :sad2: However, this is the first time (maybe ever) that I have successfully counted points for an entire week. I did buy the 12 month WW tracker, but I'm finding that I like the eTools one better. It has forced me to be honest with just how much I am eating. Hopefully I won't gain at my meeting tomorrow, but i'm not totally holding out hope.

I told myself that this week I would focus on counting points without necessarily worrying about how many I was eating. I think in the past my biggest problem was trying to change everything at once. Last week I wrote down what I ate, this past week I counted points, and this coming week I will work hard to stay with those points.

I have one last meeting with the trainer before I hear the sales pitch. While I really like the one I have been working with, I am not sure that I will be able to continue with them due to the expense. Probably not right away as my husband's health insurance is costing me quite a bit and this month I am getting double premiums taken out of my check. I still have my 24 memberships (I think), so I'll come up with something.

I had a terrible Sunday too Jessi, so you're not alone!!

But today is a new day, I am back on track, even went to bed with the kids last night so I wouldn't continue the downward spiral. Woke up at 7 which even on a school day is rare for me, laid around til 9 (should have gotten up) but now we are on to breakfast and a run.

QOTD - Monday January 17
What is your favorite way to get yourself back on track?

LOL Looks like a lot of us had a rough weekend.
How to get myself back on track?

First take ownership of the bad day, ignoring it won't help in the least. Sit back and look at what I did wrong, how I felt, why I ate what I ate. Then learn from it. Re-access my goals, why am I here. What do I want for myself. Then start a new day on a good note!

 Feeling very :goodvibes this morning! Still happy about making great choices last night, have a fridge full of fresh veggies, going to see Blue Man Group in a few hours, and I weighed in again this morning because I just had a "feeling" that I should. :woohoo: I got the number that I expected to see on Friday. I was really worried that maybe I needed to modify my eating more and really wasn't sure how, because I felt like I was following my plan. Hopefully I will be really happy this coming Friday.

Oh, and I had to find a belt for my jeans this morning! :cool1:

Woo hoo! :woohoo: You are on a roll, girl! How was Blue Man Group?

Fast moving thread. WTG to Team Donald and all of the positive participation!

I had a loss, which really surprised me. I can't seem to get focused. My business situation is really wearing on my mind. I hope to have a resolution soon.

Old questions of the day:

The only person standing in my way is me. I'm the one eating what I shouldn't, not exercising, and completely ignoring my health.

My exercise plan: is non-existent. Really need to work on this as I feel much less stressed and more in control of my life when I do exercise.

Favorite veggies: I love fresh salads with all sorts of items in them (mostly healthy). I've been having problems finding good produce so I haven't eaten enough veggies since this started. I have never roasted veggies, but am inspired to try this now after hearing how many of you do.

What keeps me from eating when I am not hungry: This one is something I definitely need to work on! I eat more than I should because I am bored, or because my feelings have been hurt, or because I am stressed out.

These questions have been very thought-provoking, and a little bit uncomfortable for me to answer. They make it clear that I need to plan and do, not just say I am changing my lifestyle, without really making a change.

 Sorry for the business situation weighing on your mind. What you are doing is working for you so that is a plus. I know what you mean about it taking more than good intentions -- I don't know how many times I've said WISHing gets you started but the only one who can really do this thing is you! :thumbsup2 And it sounds like you are! :flower3:

I try to remember the bigger picture. It would be so easy to let myself snack any time I want, but instead I remember where I want to be weight wise in two months. This seems to help. Also, the fact that I have to write everything I eat down seems to work. I am only cheating myself when I eat extra and don't keep track.

::yes::

QOTD: I'm still learning. I'm trying to choose healthier. I keep carrots in the fridge that i prebag in like 10 baby carrot servings. Thats usually enough to get me to walk away from the fridge.

My sister in law lost over 150 pounds in the last year, and she was here this weekend so that was encouraging--even though we had family event, i could make the choices she made for the most part. Car snacking on the drive to the family event and back are where I struggled most--i love gas station snacks.

Wow! What worked for your SIL? That must be inspiring! :goodvibes

Of course, sometimes when I'm wanting to munch in the kitchen, it is a clue that I really AM hungry and I need to get a meal together. Silly as that sounds, it's happened more than once that I went looking for a snack and realized I'd better actually have a meal.

And a very good point! ::yes::

I have one last meeting with the trainer before I hear the sales pitch. While I really like the one I have been working with, I am not sure that I will be able to continue with them due to the expense. Probably not right away as my husband's health insurance is costing me quite a bit and this month I am getting double premiums taken out of my check. I still have my 24 memberships (I think), so I'll come up with something.

Hope you figure out something that works for you. :)

Have to go grocery shopping this morning and get my haircut. Then some laundry and the rest of the day is mine.

Enjoy your shopping and good luck with your mentoring interview tomorrow! :flower3:

I have to work today- just got back from a mile walk and I did a 13 minute mile. just as I got home it started raining.
If someone had told me last month I would WANT to walk a mile at 13 minutes ( and want to jog it )I would have :lmao:
Well off to work soon.
GO TEAM DONALD!

Go, Abby, go! :cheer2:

QOTD - Monday January 17
What is your favorite way to get yourself back on track?

I thought this question was appropriate for me because I had a bad day yesterday and then I came on and saw I wasn't the only one. For me, it's to jump in TODAY and pretend yesterday never happened!

Get your weights to Tigger813!

The best way for me to get back on track is to just do it as quickly as possible. Don't wait until the next workday, the next day, or even the next hour. Forgive, forget and get back on track. Also tracking right away helps because sometimes I find out that the problem wasn't as bad as I thought and it is easier to get back OP.

We have the day off today so DS will be studying for finals -- looks like we avoided the strep and just got a cold -- and we will take it easy to keep recouperating. Also, apparently the stars, moons and planets have aligned just right because all of our laundry is done and put away! :dance3:

Have a great day DONALDS!

And this is one of those times I'm so glad that my toy life is Lego and Nerf. :rotfl2: But I will have to check out how sparkly Edward Barbie is! :lmao:

Happy monday everyone! I had a busy weekend and am still pretty busy at work, but I am rewarding myself for working hard for 2.5 hours by coming on here and commenting a little

I didn't have a very good food day on Saturday :sad2: It was our roommate's birthday and we went out to a steakhouse and the bar to celebrate. Usually, I like to look at the menu before I go and find the nutritional info ahead of time, but the restaurant we went to didn't have an on-line menu. I had fish for my main dish, but I ate a lot of bread and a baked potato (with some butter and sour cream:guilty:) and my BF and I split a bottle of wine. Then I had a beer at the bar too. Luckily, yesterday was a much better day. I ate well and burned a TON of calories playing broomball (we only had 1 sub, so I was on the ice a lot) and shoveling for about an hour. :thumbsup2

Beth,
I'm amazed that you do your gym on LUNCH break. When do you eat? And how on earth do you get there and do it and back all fresh for work? Last time I had my gym membership I couldn't find time for it between 40 hours work and class 4 out of 5 weeknights. I already gave up my lunch to get out an hour earlier. I should have gone after work but all I wanted to do was go home and nap after 4 hour nights 5 if I was lucky.

Luckily, I have a gym that is only about 5 min from work. I usually leave for the gym around 1, get about 30 min of cardio in :yay:, take a quick shower and head back to work. It usually takes me about an hour and 5 or 10 min, but I usually get to work before 8, so I figure it all works out :thumbsup2 When I get back to work, I eat lunch at my desk.

Any loss is better than a gain.

True. However, I sometimes wish the weigh-ins were on Saturday instead. I feel like I always have good days of Fridays, and I always tempt myself into weighing myself on Saturday mornings and so far, every week, I am less on Sat morning than I am on Fri :confused3 Maybe it's because I get more sleep on Friday nights.

QOTD - Saturday 1/15/2011 - What is your favorite vegetable? Please share your favorite ways of preparing/cooking/eating it!

My favorite vegetable is probably onions  I just really love the flavor they add to everything. I don't generally eat them plain  but I do love them sliced on sandwiches or salads or chopped up and cooked into just about anything.

Have a good morning everyone...hopefully I will be back later to catch up more and respond. Now, its back to work!

beth

Beth- You are more than welcome to weigh in on Saturday! Some don't weigh in until Monday morning! It's whatever works best for you! As long as I have the weigh in by Monday night it's fine!

I totally agree, Lisah. I have to get back on track right away too. It is soooo easy to keep stalling.

Hi everyone! I was having some password issues and was not able to get on the DIS at all!! But I got on today!!!! (go figure - it just worked today!!! :goodvibes) I have so much to catch up on - I just went back 4 pages because otherwise, I'd go cross-eyed! LOL

Water, water, water!
I tried making myself do 10 push ups every time I thought about food but well...I got tired really quickly!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Lisa, I printed your answer out and it is taped to my fridge!!! I also have to really think about what I'm eating - sometimes I forget to "think" and find myself mindlessly grazing. I also DVR'd some of the old BL episodes and watch them for motivation while working in the kitchen (my danger zone....)

We have the day off from work today but still had our early boot camp class. Between that and my run, my legs are jelly today!!!

You are only late for weigh in if you PM after 7:30PM EST on Monday nights!!!

Please make sure you have read the first pages of these BL threads! I feel I am answering the same questions over and over again!

I send out the reminders as just that, REMINDERS! Sometimes people have PMed me and I have not received it for some reason.

Weigh in schedule is between Thursday and Monday so if you PM me in that time frame you are not late!!!!

Thank you Tracey for being our weightkeeper!:goodvibes

I think there are a few people on both threads in a bit of a slump. And I will admit, this year has had a rocky start for me.

So here are my Top 10 reasons to stick with a healthy lifestyle for 2011.
10. Shopping for clothes is a lot more fun!:goodvibes
9. Being able to fit on the Dumbo ride with your adult child—priceless.:lovestruc
8. It’s awesome to be able to leave your clothes in the dryer and not worry about everything being too small when they come out.:thumbsup2
7. Less stomach issues and better sleep!
6. Healthy food (once you figure out what you like) tastes so much better than fast food.
5. Trying new things—like segway tours and kayaking and parasailing—is a lot easier without the extra pounds.
4. You will find that if you can lose the weight you will feel like you can do anything!
3. Being told you look 10 years younger is a pretty amazing thing!
2. Less medication, better blood pressure, less risk of diabetes, stroke and heart attack, need I say more.
1. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!! :goodvibes(Thanks Corinna—I think you said this!)

Hang in there everyone. It's a process. Not everyone sees a loss every week. The important things is to keep trying.:goodvibes

I can't remember if I have mentioned this or not on Donald (I know I did on Mickey) but thank you to Mikamah (Kathy) for maintaining the QOTD archive on the first page of this thread. Lindsay (Mommyof2pirates) does it for team Mickey. This will come in handy as we get further into the challenge.

Have a great day!

Only have a few minutes, but I don't want to fall too far behind...

QOTD Sunday 1/16/2011 - How do you avoid eating for reasons other than your body being truly hungry?

Tough one...as I'm one who eats because of emotion or boredom! I'm trying to be really strict about stopping and asking myself "why". Am I really hungry, or does this just look good? Do I need to have ice cream with DD's, or can they go ahead without me tonight? Is it time for me to make lunch rather than grabbing a snack? Will water do, or do I actually need to eat? And if the chocolate craving just won't pass, I realize that 2 M&Ms is a better solution than a whole hand full !!!

QOTD - Monday January 17
What is your favorite way to get yourself back on track?

Just to do it immediately! If I screw up in the morning or afternoon, that is not a free pass to blow the day and start over tomorrow! Often, I can find a way to save the day (or at least make it not as bad as it would have been...).

Have a great day, Donalds! I'm out to shovel for the second time today (which gets me points with DH and counts as cardio ... win-win!)

I was curious about the number of people who hadn't sent their weight to Tigger yet - looks like about 25% so I looked over at the Mickey thread to saw a similar number of missing info. For the Donald's who have done this before, is that a typical dropout number after week 2?

I'd say we are right about where we usually are now or maybe even a lower drop rate. This will be the first time that we have statistics for a team thread challenge. Typically we run about 82% of the beginning for the second week's reporting. I checked BL9 (the last big spring challenge) and BL10 (the fall challenge) and they were the same. If you look at the results posts (there is a list at the beginning of the threads) it shows the retainage rate.

We do lose people all along through the challenge. Some of those folks on the missing list are people who signed up but never sent a starting weight. You have to miss three weeks before you are removed from the challenge -- but you can always come back any time.

Hopefully most of our group is in it for the long haul! :flower3:

Thank you!!! I needed to hear that!

I'd like to also add that one old habit that has to go is watching certain foodie shows. They just make me want all the bad food! Walked through the family room on my way to the treadmill today and my kids were watching Cake Boss and all I could think about for the next 20 minutes was frosting! I'm a serious sweets lover. I hope I don't trigger anyone else's cravings here by saying that, but I think it's worth noting...stay away from shows about unhealthy food!

What is your favorite way to get yourself back on track?

like many others JUST do it and stop making excuses. if you blow a day get back to it. That was my downfall in the past, I'd mess up adn beat myself up over it. Now it's no excuses

one BIG thing for me is now that I have told so many people I am going to do the 5K in October and train for the Princess in 2012 -
I don't want everyone to shake their heads and say we knew you would'nt do it. you were talking again like you have in the pasty about losing weight.
I want to prove that I CAN.

I just want that medal :) and getting healthy along the way is a perk!!!
With all this support I am in for the long haul :)

Ugh, I am worn out. As soon as the refrigerator was installed I took the girls to get haircuts, then we went to Wallyworld and spent way to long since I had to get a bunch of misc stuff, including shoes for one DD. I would rather have a root canal than to go shoe shopping with my girls. They hate shoes, and they think they all feel tight.

Came home and had to get all the tape and plastic off of the fridge and parts. Still have to move all the food back from the garage to the kitchen. So glad that DH is cooking tonight.

:woohoo:Come on Donald's! Get those weights in! Even if they aren't what you hoped. Even if they are higher than your initial weight or the same as last week you will only be able to change that by coming here and getting the support and motivation you need. And if you haven't sent it in because you are don't want to show us all up with the huge amount you lost, it's okay, you will just give us something to aim for next week. :cool1:

As for the QOTD, I try to just get right back on plan. I don't try to forget the setback, but to figure out what I did wrong, and more importantly WHY? What can I do next time to change things and keep moving forward? Then I accept what I did and also try to balance the next few days with much healthier options, or back to the first step of my program that gives you that little "jump start".

Looking forward to trying a medley of roasted vegetables with dinner tonight.

Hi everyone...I am taking another short break from my project, so I thought I would at least answer the QOTDs that I missed.

QOTD 1/16--I try to occupy myself with something other than eating. I have started doing the dishes while I cook dinner, that way I'm not tempted to take extra tastes or eat a snack to hold me over the 30 min until dinner is ready.

QOTD 1/17--The first thing I do when I have a bad day is feel guilty :guilty: Then I just get back to it. I know that it is pretty much impossible to be perfect every day, so as long as I am doing my best and I only have an occasional bad day I will still end up losing. :thumbsup2

Now...back to the grind!
