TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

What are my hobbies? Well, I like to read magazines, not books. Like to eat, which got me into this condition, Love to visit WDW and travel but not as much as I 'd like due to cost.
I am 48, mom of 3 girls 20,15, and 12. We live in the Poconos of PA. I have been a teacher for 27 years.

What are my hobbies?

I would have to say Pin Collecting, Disney Gift Card Collecting, Photography, Theme Parks & spending way to much time reading discussion boards :)

My hobbies are golf, although difficult right now since we have snow and cold in Mid-Michigan.

I used to play adult baseball and hockey until I injured my shoulder and had surgery on it this past October for the second time. Looks like that will be put on hold for at least a year until I can get it stronger.

Besides the typical Disney hobbies I have when I'm down in the World. I cart kids. DS - 7, DS- 12, and DD -14 are all into sports and we have something going every night of the week. Sometimes 2 of them have to be somewhere at the same time only different places, so the wife and I divide and conquer. Don't know if thats a hobby or a second job, but it is worth while for sure.:)

DaPanMan - you and I have similar hobbies :) I love to golf but have a modified season due to the snow. I got a Kindle last year and started reading again. Now that the kids are a bit older, I do have more time to do those things that I used to enjoy. I used to knit and play piano and would love to start both back up.

Most of my free time is spent hauling the 3 kids to various activities - soccer, baseball, football, hockey, scouts, violin, choir, church activites - you get the picture. No complaints, I know they grow up fast and I have learned to enjoy the time spent doing the ordinary day things.

TaoWillow - your art is beautiful! I love your portrait!

QOTD: What are my hobbies? In all honesty, I can list several: reading, scrapbooking, doing cross stitch, etc., but the reality of my life is that I don't actually spend time doing these things. I have the material, etc, but when it comes down to taking the time for myself, I end up doing household chores, or mindlessly surfing the internet, and eating.

One of my goals this year is to make myself spend time doing things I like and want to do.

This sounds just like me! I love to scrapbook and read but lately I haven't done any scrapbooking. I do tend to read a lot of magazines and a few books during the school breaks.

QOTD: I love to read, cross-stitch, and watch movies. I also knit (not as skilled at it). I don't have much time for these as I also spend a lot of time on the DIS boards. :lmao:

Hope everyone had a great New Years day!

Wow, I'm already late with my postings :(

I didn't wake up till almost noon yesterday and then left a few hours later for dinner with our BFFs....so, I'll start with today's QOTD, if that's ok....

QOTD 1/2/11 - What are your hobbies? I love to scrapbook (avid!), photography (I think goes hand-in-hand with scrapping), read (mostly historical novels & some bestsellers) and taking my DDs to cheer and dance activities. Yep, none of my hobbies are big calorie burners BUT I'm starting to walk at least 3x a week.

I just turned 50 and I'm the mom of two beautiful DDs (almost 13 and 10). I work part-time as an Estate Planning/Administration Paralegal and volunteer at my DDs schools.

Good morning losers!:goodvibes I am off to a pretty good start for this challenge, even though we started over the weekend. Hope you did well yesterday and if you did slip a little, today is a new day:thumbsup2

Yep I sure did. I crocheted that one without a pattern
Beautiful! Love the colors

I'm forbidden from using the "d" word. LOL.
I like this! I try not to think of myself as on a diet either. This is just the way I live now with some occasional splurges. I don't go "on" or "off" my diet.
Good luck with your Princess training.

I was suprised at my Weigh in Today. I hadn't weighed myself recently, and I was happy to see it was a bit less than what I had been 3 weeks ago. Like 5 pounds less!

:cool1::cool1: Why doesn't this ever happen to me ??!!

my son loves water with gas also....it irritates me because the rest of the family drinks tap water...I don't like buying his water and I'm not sure it's as healthy as plain water:confused3 But, he really enjoys it and drinks ALOT!

Enjoy your dinner at Le Cellier - is your anniversary near your birthday?

my addictions include CARBS, SWEETS, and SODA. The major problem with the carbs is that I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) which makes it difficult for me to regulate my insulin and sugars. I really need to curb the carbs and focus on the proteins... which will definitely be a challenge.

:welcome: Marsha! I think many of us here share your addictions, I know I do. I was able to kick soda out of my diet and I don't really miss it. Every once on awhile I will have one, maybe once a month. I just try to stay away from sweets as much as I can, don't have them in my house for example. Carbs are hard for me, esp bread and rice. I just aim for moderation. Hey, most people are not even trying or thinking about this so you are doing well just to try right? Maybe exercise would help some with the PCOS:confused3
If you are just starting, start out light and build up over time. Find something you really enjoy.

They are now in second grade, and I was SURE that once they started school full time last year, I'd have all the time in the world to get my self, my house, and my life organized... I blame my kids for my weight issues

Wow, triplets:worship: I blame my ONE 14 year old "baby" for my weight gain, so I can totally understand this;) What genders are they, if you don't mind sharing? Have you ever checked out www.flylady.net? A great way to get organized and she advocates "baby steps".

Howdy Team Donald!!

As of right now, I have received WIN measurements from *7* members of Team Donald and *9* members of Team Mickey.

If you choose to participate, please try to send in your WIN number by late Monday.

Come on, y'all! Let's see if we can put up as many WINners as Team Mickey already has!!
Hi Connie:wave2: I will see if my Mom has a tape measure here. We are still visiting until Thursday. If I don't make it in on the first one, I'll be back for the next one.

Hey everyone!! I'm your team mate Janis, I am 51 years old, live North of Boston with my DH of 25 years Joe. We have one DS 14.
Looking forward to the Challenge, and making new friends on the DIS!!!
Janis

:welcome: Janis!! Finally, someone as old as I am:rotfl: I turn 50 in Feb and DS turns 14 in April. I find it VERY challenging to lose weight at this age/stage of my life. Hormones are fluctuating daily and my body is fighting me every step of the way. I have "only" lost 23.5 pounds in about 10 months but I am determined not to quit. Even though its a slow process for me, I will eventually get there if I just don't quit:goodvibes

Question of the Day

What are your hobbies?

I love to travel, shop, read, watch TV/movies, needlework (cross-stitch), take yoga classes, and browse the Internet when there's time. I also exercise every day (moderately) and I don't love it but I am always looking for new things I can do. I don't have a gym membership but I jog, walk, do my elliptical and take yoga.

Dona, good luck getting all your Sunday things done in prep for Monday:goodvibes Your mystery quilting challenge sounds like fun!

Hi, I'm your teammate Tracy. We go to WDW at least twice a year. We are looking forward to our next trip 1/30 and we are also going to try out the DisneyDream. I haven't taken enough cruises since the kids were born In all, my goal is to lose about 140 lbs. For this challenge, I'd like to lose 30 or 40.

I've lost weight before, but always get discouraged at the plateau's. Hopefully, by tracking with WIN - I'll be able to celebrate on other milestones besides the scale.
Today, I'd say my hobby is Internet Shopping and finding the best deals - uh, is that a hobby? Maybe I need to find a new hobby...

:welcome: Tracy! Wow, that's great that you are able to go to WDW twice a year:cool1: We love the Disney cruises and hope to do the Dream one day. Check out the cruise board if you haven't already. There's alot of good advice there. We will be here to help you get through the plateaus. Alot of us keep saying just don't quit!!! That's the most important thing:goodvibes
And, yes, internet shopping and deal hunting is a bonafide hobby;)

Here's hoping I can count calories while eating on the road!
I make art. The last isn't supposed to be my hobby, its supposed to be my income - but my production has been really low lately and its something I want to turn around this year. My user icon is of a painting I did several years ago. Here's one of myself that is nearly finished:

Your art is great! Wow, so much talent in one family:worship:

You may pass my hubby and DS on the road.....he is spending the weekend visiting his family in Mocksville which is slightly west of W-S. They are celebrating his Dad's 70th bday.

Eating on the road is a challenge for me too. Even a trip like you are taking feels like a "vacation" to me and my brain gives the signal to have fun and eat whatever I want to:rotfl: (sigh)....just one small step outside my normal routine can throw me off track

Be careful driving:goodvibes

I feel like I spend too much time on the Internet most days. It can really suck you in. Sometimes I will even set a timer and only allow myself so much time. Or, I allow myself more time once I've done some cleaning or other chores.

Not too much on my agenda today. Relaxing, a little shoppping, getting in the 3 HH, meeting some old friends for lunch. Hope there will be healthy choices there. I don't normally do this but I think I will skip breakfast this morning and save some calories for lunch. I do not advocate this at all, but since it's already 10:30 and we are meeting at 1:00, think I'll give it a try. Maybe have some fruit.

Have a great day!!! Even if you "mess up" today, don't quit! Get right back on track and try again tomorrow! Don't forget to get your HH in today!

Shawnprincess:

Good morning TEAM DONALD!!!!!

It's so nice to meet everyone.

I'm happy to say I had one day completely on track, and only used 3 of my ww weekly points. Now, to carry on. We went sledding yesterday afternoon, and I got some exercising climbing that hill. I only worked 2 days over school break, but I did miss my quiet time I ussually have in the morning after my ds gets on the bus. It will be nice to get back to a regular exercise routine. I need to remember to do my measurements and pm them to Connie for the win. I did get my 3 hh points for yesterday, and wasn't planning any exercise today, but should get in 20 min for the points.

You have that arbitrary number, saying you'll be okay as long as you never reach it, and then when you see it pop up on the scale you feel like you've swallowed your tongue. Nasty feeling.
Such a perfect description. I know it well, but am determined this time to not have it happen again.

I was suprised at my Weigh in Today. I hadn't weighed myself recently, and I was happy to see it was a bit less than what I had been 3 weeks ago. Like 5 pounds less!

(DH just told me he got reservations for Le Cellier for our anniversary.. Now how am I gonna eat good at Le Cellier ??? I appreciate him doing that- But I need to plan now so I don't go nuts and order 6 mooses:)
congrats on 5 pounds down over the holiday weeks, that's a huge accomplishment!:thumbsup2 I think you should enjoy your anniversary meal at le cellier, and know that you will be walking it off in the parks. But just have one moose.;)

We just hung out at home, cuddling and watching movies. My kids are young (3, 3, and 5). We also played Simon Says and Ring Around the Rosy (wow - we're pretty lame, huh?!?!? LOL)
Twins are so fun, for those of us who aren't the parents. ;) I got to hold a family friends 4 month old twin girls at a b-day party last week, and it was so fun to get my baby fix. I'm sure you're crazy busy with those 3 little ones.

I'm a SAHM to three just-turned 8yr olds. They are now in second grade, and I was SURE that once they started school full time last year, I'd have all the time in the world to get my self, my house, and my life organized... here it is a year and a half later and our lives are still crazy and I'm still not motivated/organized enough to exercise consistently!
I'll think of you when I feel overwhelmed with my one nine year old. I'm finding as he's getting older, he's doing more, and filling that free time that I thought I'd have up with activities.

Question of the Day

What are your hobbies?
I feel like I used to have hobbies, but they're on the back burner, and one day I'll get back to them. I do like to scrapbook, plan vacations, especially disney and I like photography. I bought a dslr a few years ago, but haven't gotten into it as much as I had hoped yet. I used to country dance, bike ride, knit, and ski, and one day when ds is older, I'd like to get back into the dancing. This past year, I did start taking more time for me, to get out and run/walk. It's hard to fit things in for myself, and my son will be grown before i know it, and then I'm sure I'll have lots of free time.

That's just beautiful, and amazing how real it looks.

My name is Maria and I am 42, mother of dsalmost13, and married for 17 years to my wonderful dh. I've been a bit absent lately, we lost our dear Worf aka Worfiedoodles (17 years of black cat full of love and demanding attention) a couple of weeks ago, and we've been processing that.
So sorry about worfiedoodles, Maria. It's so hard to lose a member of our family.

I have pros and cons for both now. I really like Disneyland and how everything is really close together and I especially prefer how Small World is set off on it's own. Also, Pirates is DEFINITELY better at DL. However, having 4 parks with so much to do and so many more food choices, I'd have to say I really enjoyed WDW more than DL. A lot of that is based on the types of crowds also. WDW has more tourists, whereas DL has a lot more locals visiting. I did hope to be able to compare weather better, however we set some low temperature records while at WDW.
We havent been to DL yet, but want to and the other day, I heard my son telling someone that wdw is so much better than DL. Guess I need to get him there soon so he can make a real comparison.

She is so beautiful, as is your photography. Love the hat and scarf too. Very crafty.

We just got a puppy and he's still learning the whole bedtime routine. We lost our beloved Apollo (my 10-year-old dog) to an undiagnosed stomach tumor while on vacation at Disney World. He, luckily, was home with my step daughter and her boyfriend who were house-sitting for us while we were gone. Normally he would have been in the kennel.
Sorry about your Apollo. Congrats on the new puppy, and good luck getting him into a nice bedtime routine.

[:wave2: Hi Kathy! Looking forward to seeing you, too, soon! princess: This is going to be your challenge -- I can feel it! :hippie:
I gained 3 pounds between yesterday and today. :sad2:

Good luck to us all! :yay:
Thanks Lisa. Bummer on the 3 pounds, but they will be gone in no time. 8 weeks from today we'll be admiring our medals!!

Hi Kathy, yeah the number of fellow Mass losers seems pretty good. Maybe we can plan something for a Sunday mid-challenge. I'll try to remember to post something here and on the Team Mickey thread to see if anyone is interested and we can try and figure out a mid-way point. I work 6 days a week from Feb-April 15th, so Sunday's work best unless we want to wait until after tax season.
It's so nice to know there are so many disney fan's locally too. Sometimes at work I feel very alone in my disney obsession. We should defnitely plan a local get together during the challenge. Maybe when it warms up we could have a meet up at a state park and walk or something.

Off to wash the breakfast dishes, and get in the shower. We're planning a relaxing day. We may go out to target. Ds needs some decent snow boots, and I figure if I go get some now, that will ward off any further snow this year. Maybe we'll buy a new sled too.

Have a great day everyone. Remember, all the little changes can add up to make big differences, the extra glass of water, walk the stairs instead of the elevator, fruit instead of a cookie. We can do this!!!:cheer2:

Hello everyone. Sorry I'm late ;) I've spent the morning reading this thread and it sounds like this is the team to be on! I'm sure I'll get lots of inspiration from you all.

My name is Cody. I'm 47 years old and very recently separated (dh ran away from home the week before thanksgiving ) (Hey, I guess that makes me 162 pounds lighter already :woohoo:). I've spent the last 6 weeks just trying to get through the holidays, pulling myself together, and organizing and planning for the new year. I am so grateful for my 8 pets and their unconditional love that is keeping me going. I'm working on a new attitude and a strategy to make 2011 MY YEAR!

I've got about 35 pounds to lose, all of which was put on in the last 5 years. I'm so excited about getting off my butt and doing something positive. Last year I started the couch to 5k program and ran two 5ks (one at Disney). Unfortunately, I didn't lose any weight, actually gained 10 pounds.:scared1:

I started today on a positive note by tossing all the junk food in the trash. I put coffee grounds over them so I wouldn't be tempted to pull a George Castanza. I've got my workout charts on the wall, the treadmill free of junk and my weight set dusted off and ready to go. Now to lose the weight!:yay:

And, yes, internet shopping and deal hunting is a bonafide hobby;)Maybe I'll pick up a new hobby.

Relaxing, a little shoppping, getting in the 3 HH, meeting some old friends for lunch. Hope there will be healthy choices there. Sounds like a nice day. Are you heading back to germany on thursday? I bet your time here just seems to fly by. Have a nice lunch, and I agree with a little fruit before you go, so you're not starving.

Welcome to the party! Hugs to you on your husband. I'm sure the holidays were tough, but you got through it, and you have a positive attitude, and you are right 2011 is going to be your year!! Congrats on running the 5ks. I did the c25k and did my first 5k this year too, and like you didn't lose weight, but am in much better shape for it. How was the disney race? It must have been amazing.

Good Morning Team Donald! Hope everyone was off to a good start yesterday. I did my HH Goals yesterday. The water will be easy for me. The 3 veggies a day will be hard. If it were fruit instead, I would be good to go!
I guess you could call it my hobby- I volunteer at a rabbit rescue twice a week, cleaning cages, and feeding the bunnies. The shelter is similar to a Humane Association, but with all rabbits instead of cats and dogs. There are usually about 75 rabbits there at any time, waiting for a home. All the rabbits are litter box trained before being adopted, and spayed/neutered.
I have 2 buns of my own at home, Schotzie and Dalton. They do their part at keeping me busy too

I decided that I am going to start my real changes on Tuesday. DH goes back to work then so vacation will officially be over. That and we have a few things in the house that I need to get rid of before we start (chips, egg nog, cookies, cheese sticks) :teeth: Really are just still in to much of a relaxed mode for me to get motivated until I get the house back to myself.

I am going to make a menu today so that we can hit the ground running. I did go to the store yesterday and bought some yogurt :crazy2: in flavors that I will hopefully like and some different types of frozen veggies. Fresh are just awful this time of year and I don't like canned (but my family does) so I am hoping to maybe find some frozen options that we can stand. Otherwise I will just make them for myself. That is one great thing about the frozen ones-- I can take out just one serving, unlike canned where once it is open you have to use it.

QOTD: I am a collector. . . I collect scrapbooking supplies, knitting and crocheting supplies and patterns and mystery books. ;) One of these days I hope to actually go back to being a scrapbooker, knitter, crocheter, and reader.

Mostly I hang out on my computer. Obviously I DIS a lot. I was into a lot of the Facebook games about a year ago but stopped those cold turkey when I realized it was really just sucking my life away. I also volunteer on several boards for my kids activities. Some days those suck my life away also!

I love to look for and find new recipes in books, magazines, on TV and online, but it can be a bit of a challenge because I am kind of picky. No seafood, onions or peppers. Sure seems like a ton of recipes use peppers! I won't even allow peppers in the house, the smell makes me gag. Onions I just don't like the texture of so can't stand to bite into one, love the flavor. I get around the onions a few different ways like using onion powder, chopping them big enough that I can pick them out or pureeing them so that I don't bite into them.

(Hey, I guess that makes me 162 pounds lighter already :woohoo:).

:lmao::rotfl2: :thumbsup2

Good morning teammates!

I decided to take on WIN and see what happens. I've never tracked my measurements before so I figured what the heck, lets give it a whirl. Well, wasn't that an eye opener! I also got on the wii scale (it's the only one I have) and just wanted to cry. I knew I had gained weight but when you see that number man does it sink in!!! I'm very mad at myself. I was pretty much down to where I wanted to be about a year and a half ago. I'm going to get back there and I WILL NOT let this happen again.

I'm kinda with Scraps n the whole waiting thing. My husband too goes back to work on Tuesday so it'll be easier for me to get on my wii and start putting together some menus and do the shopping.

I did send in my weight and measurements though.

ETA: Forgot the QOTD. Hobbies. Hmmm.....I like to start projects I never finish, like scrapbooking, cross-stitching, etc. I like to read, travel, hang out online and fishing.

Good morning fellow losers :). My hobbies are clipping coupons to see how much I can save on food and household items, taking walks outside (except in the winter), planning Disney Theme Nights with the kids (our first one is next Saturday as The Nightmare Before Christmas), attending my kids sporting events and watching mindless tv (such as the Bad Girls Clubpopcorn::). My challenge to myself now is if I want to watch mindless tv I can do it while walking on the treadmill. That should keep me away from the mindless eating that happens during the shows.

Hi! I just joined this morning! (And how appropriate that I was assigned to team Donald, since he's my favorite! I guess I need to get out my stuffed animal for extra inspiration!) ETA: I'm a loser, btw! (ha!)

-- Kim

I was assigned to team Donald.
Will take measurements tomorrow.

Hi everyone got my HH points for yesterday. I finished my meal plan for the week and exercise plan too but I was hungry all day. The candy hidden in my cabinets were calling my name all day but at least I didn't eat them.

QOTD- reading, movies, Wii gaming, farmville, I used to be into yoga, hiking, running and basketball but that was about 40 pounds ago. :guilty: I tried dancing in heels on New Year's Eve and thought my knees were going to scream. I've decided to start with walking and gentle yoga to help rebuild my strength. Hopefully this will make my knees feel better. In two weeks I'm going to try Couch to 5k to hep me get ready for my first 5k in February. have a great day everyone!!
