TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

I had a break down last night. A complete I am so done with this hissy fit. I ate a good dinner but I just felt "hungry"-- that gnawing feeling that wouldn't go away. I was tired and cranky and just hit the wall. I wanted chips, pasta, chocolate and a real Pepsi. The family ran for cover. I sat on the couch and sulked and watched stupid TV and crocheted to keep my hands busy so I wouldn't get up and do something I would regret. I kept repeating in my mind "hunger is not an emergency ". I had eaten plenty. After an hour or so I realized the burning in my stomach was getting worse so I got some antacid. Which made me even crankier because I hate drinking that stuff. But it helped. I wasn't hungry, just having a major acid problem (no idea why). I felt a little better by bedtime.

I slept in today because I have just been tired. And I feel much better today. I took a risk and decided to weigh in just to see and I'll be darned if I haven't lost 3 more pounds!!! :cool1: Talk about a great way to start the day and motivate me. But it gets better. . . I have actually lost about 10-15 pounds in the last year so my jeans have been getting looser. The last few days I can barely keep them up so I took a deep breath and reached for the ones stored away several years ago in the top of my closet.

:dancer: This would be my THEY FIT happy dance! A size smaller than what I have been wearing. I really, really needed that this morning after last night.
and when weather permits, cooking on the grill. I miss that this winter. Usually we don't have this much snow and I can get out to the grill easily.
My husband LOVES to grill and there is basically nothing that will stop him! Well, heavy rain and high wind just because he can't keep it lit. He will shovel the snow around it if he has to! Fortunately ours is only a few steps from our back porch so he only has has to go a short distance. We grill probably 3 or 4 nights a week. Fortunately we aren't in an area that gets a whole lot of snow, but I really don't think that would stop him!

QOTD - Wednesday 1/19/2011 - What is one healthy swap you can make to your eating this week?
Hmmm. I am not sure this week. I haven't made my menu yet. I have swapped out white potatoes for sweet potatoes and much of my carbs for veggies. I guess this week I am trying to add more beans so that is also a swap from the pasta or rice that I would be using to fill up.

The different lifestyle of the Europeans fascinates us here! I think it is good for us to see a different perspective on things. My good friend here who is British does **2** loads of laundry a week for a family of 4, mom, dad and 2 teenage boys! She says it is 3 if she's doing sheets. I think I do about 12 loads of laundry for our family of 3! When we go to the airport, everyone else's suitcases are TINY! I don't know how they manage but I should learn:laughing:
Okay, I want to know how she does that!! I keep threatening my kids that they are going to get 5 pairs of jeans, one pair of pajamas, 7 undies and 7 shirts and that is it! I swear my house looks like a laundromat all the time.

I found FREE on demand exercise programs... all kinds of stuff even Jillian and Leslie's WATP. of course it has shreds and zumbas etc.. I am no where near that yet
hmm, I wonder if Netflix has that? I will have to ask DH. If nothing else it is a great way to try a few different things and see what you like. I actually have some great tapes--yes VHS tapes-- from like the 80's that I really like. I like the person that does them and the way she does the exercises. Not sure if I can even remember how to use my VCR, even if I can find them.

The weather warmed up a bit, to a whole 38 degrees, so I borrowed my neighbors dog and went for a walk. She is an easy dog to walk and the neighbors love that I want to do it as they are older and can't go to often.
What a great idea! You get a fun way to exercise and they get help with their pet and I am sure the dog absolutely loves it!

QOTD - Wednesday 1/19/2011 - What is one healthy swap you can make to your eating this week?

I've been dropping the cookies for 90 calorie Special K bars. Chocolatey pretzel rocks! I've also been following the Body for Life plan, and while the first week was pure hell, the second week felt much easier.

Losing the weight is a huge goal for me, but more importantly, I just need to prove to myself that I can stick to this plan and see it to completion. Here's hoping I can stay on track!

I have to change foods around due to allergies- if I make Chicken & dumpling I just leave out a piece of chicken and make rice and veggies with it. you would think being GF I'd weigh 10 pounds but there's a lot of fat in GF foods. A LOT :( There are times it is hard to make 2 meals.
[/COLOR]

By GF do you mean Gluten Free? I'm trying to change to some Gluten free stuff for DS9. He has ADD and I'm trying to monitor his food intake to keep his meds low. I have found that processed foods and a lot of fast food just sets him off! He's not consistently taken his meds since before Christmas but with the no eating out challenge he really hasn't needed his meds.

QOTD - Wednesday 1/19/2011 - What is one healthy swap you can make to your eating this week?

Pineapple instead of cookies or ice cream for my after Dinner treat. DD and DS14 went to the grocery with me and we stocked up on grapefruit, apples, fresh pineapple, and oranges.
I just cut the pineapple and it was amazing!!

yes Gluten free. I am allergic to Wheat and things like malt, barley etc.. I can eat a tiny bit as I am not terribly sensitive to it but I can't eat a slice of bread or eat whole wheat noodles. I don't have celiac, so every now and then if something slips in I may not have an issue. I can eat Oatmeal with no issues, most can't.
Amazon has a wonderful assortment of GF foods. and Super target and now even Super walmart has items. My Issue is now Corn based items are so full of fat. Likecorn tortillas = not a good thing. I can eat vans waffles and even Bisquick makes a GF mix now :) Bob's Red mill mixes are the best tasting to me.
The pineapple sounds YUMMY!

LovetoScrap :cheer2: way to go on the pants! that is so awesome!! Netflix streaming has a few exercise videos- mostly yoga or salsa dancing but a few others.

QOTD: Well, I am definitely eating more fruit and raw veggies instead of crackers, pretzels, etc. And I am trying to swap water for diet soda but I still need one can a day.

dvccruiser76 What have you been up to?

Hi Dona! Not too much new here. I've been trying to avoid the fact that tax season is almost here, but there's no more avoiding it. I had 7 corporate returns come in today. People (or companies at least) seem to be getting their stuff in early this year as compared to late last year. In a way it's a good thing, so now I will just have to buckle down and dig in. We don't start working weekends in the office until February, but I can already see myself working from home this weekend. My light at the end of the tax season tunnel is my vacation. Grated it's not until May, but by April 15th it will be that much closer :goodvibes

How have you been?

After school, fun club called to close early, by 4, so I left work early, but by then it was all rain, and the roads weren't bad. What a nightmare drive you had. The childrens museum is fun, I think I took michael there when he was 4 and he loved the bubble room, the golfball room with a bunch of tracks you race balls on, and he still remembers being on tv with arthur where they had a big green screen. It's is worth a trip.

I think we'll have to check it out. Maybe some Friday when I'm off from work and kids aren't on vacation or anything, so it's not as busy.

Are you thinking about Coco Key at all in February? It's in the back of my mind pending my tax load that weekend, weather, money, etc. When is your trip to Disney?

:dancer: This would be my THEY FIT happy dance! A size smaller than what I have been wearing. I really, really needed that this morning after last night.

Yahoo happy crazy banana dance instead

To heck with this crummy day. I'm ready for tomorrow. Ugh! I was drained physically and took a nap and skipped my workout. I'm wondering if I have a cold coming. This happens a lot the day before. I had planned to walk the field at dd's school while she had her first Wed of guitar club. Instead I stayed because other parents were. I figure I could learn a little bit too one parent had their own full size guitar to learn with as well. But dd wasn't paying good attention then was complaining. I take it she was doing good when the teacher came by and had everyone show the notes they worked on. It shouldn't be too tough other than the fact dd is learning violin and guitar at the same time. :rolleyes1

My brother is having some issues with some friends that were roommates(living in a house in his name they have screwed up something or other with the mortgage company) and when he is grumpy(with reason) the whole house is off because I'm walking on egg shells and trying to keep dd out of his hair. I just have a lot to get done the next couple days as I've been slacking behind on some things. Going to try for some yoga tonight then back on track with 30 Day Shred dvds in morning. Today with this energy drop is either the fact I've not had caffeine the last 2 mornings or the messed up sleep I had Monday night catching up to me. Just feeling blah this evening. :guilty: :sad1: I'm sure tomorrow I will feel better. I'll try some journaling and pep talks before bed so I can skip this funk I had today to the curb. I don't want my efforts destroyed. Sorry for just venting. I should be back on track by Friday.

:hug:Hugs to Melissa. It's hard when life and stress pile up. We've had some majorly frustrating things this week, too. But I'm determined not to let it win this time. Good choices, good choices, good choices....

Today was a bit of a day for me as well. We were back at school after the kids ended up with a 5 day weekend. I was down 3 kids out of 9, so it wasn't too crazy. We started getting some pretty heavy snow right at dismissal. I'm glad our school is early release!

Aaron had a job interview over on the Kansas side. It took him about two hours to get home due to all the traffic and snow. I ended up running out for chinese. I did not eat as well as I normally would and did break down and get a soda hoping it would help my head ache. However, I counted all the points and definitely ate a lot better than the other times I have been there. I am definitely making progress. We already have school called off for tomorrow. So we'll see how things go.

Good Thursday morning Team Donald. We are almost done for the week.

Melissa I hope today is better for you. I hope you are not getting a cold and can get back on track for today.

Eeyores Butterfly I can't believe you are getting more snow. We are supposed to get snow tonight just in time for the morning rush. It will be worse if it starts late. There is nothing worse than coming and then being sent home.

I just spent last night relaxing Dh and ds went out so it was very quiet. Tonight I go out to yoga

School is a little crazy since my student teacher came for the first time yesterday. THe first week for a spring student teacher is tough since we are reviewing for midterms and there is not a lot for her to do. I can't wait till we can start to discuss lessons

Have to go and get breakfast. To those people getting snow today (somewhere between Eeyores Butterfly and myself on the east coast) take care. How long until spring?

Have a happy and healthy day.

Morning all,

Today I am feeling a whole body soreness I haven't felt since playing basketball in college. It feels great to tell you the truth, the pain reminds me that I'm pushing myself harder than I have in a long time and that I am surviving...

I'm also realizing that eating at work is not the hard part anymore, it's eating at home that's the challenge. I've made some significant progress in changing my eating preferences, but as it always is, sometimes making the healthier choice can be a challenge.

I just got engaged, so now there is even more incentive to get back on track (well that and the fact that I want to look good poolside when we head to WDW for our honeymoon!).

Have a great day everyone!

Congrats on your engagement!!! That's great incentive!

I'm up early today. DS14 has a mid day exam so doesn't have to be in early so he gets to watch DD while I go take the other boys to school. Then mom is grabbing DD while I take DS14 to school and go to the Dr.
I'm hoping to get in a quick workout before I leave for the Dr.
I have to have my foot looked at again, it's starting to act up again, and it's worse then before. And I need to get the girls looked at, I've have some pain like a bruised feeling under my armpit. I can't feel anything but I want to get it looked at anyway. So if y'all could spare some pixie dust today, that would be great.

I'll be back later for QOTD! Have an awesome day everyone!!!

QOTD Thursday January 20, 2011 - There has been a lot of talk about journaling. Please share how you journal and what you record, is it just the foods or do you list calories, fat, protein, fiber, etc for each food?

I have not been successful in journaling for long periods of time so I my healthy change this week is to try doing it differently. I will be carrying a notebook and recording everything about my day. What time I woke up, how much sleep I got, if I didn't feel well, what I ate and what time, how much water I drank, how much, what type and what time I exercise.

Good morning TEAM DONALD! Was so busy yesterday that I never got to post here.

Thank you, Dreamer24, for being our coach this week! :flower3: You had a lot of interesting questions! :goodvibes

And welcome to mikamah, our coach starting tomorrow! :flower3:

QOTD - Wednesday 1/19/2011 - What is one healthy swap you can make to your eating this week?

I'm a trying to use the more bang for your buck foods for my points -- I can't remember what they call them on WW now -- too early. Which also means more free fruit and veggies!

DD 12 is sick so I am only working 1/2 day today- she woke up with a fever of 102.5 I didn't get a walk in today but hopefully I can exercise later. I found FREE on demand exercise programs... all kinds of stuff even Jillian and Leslie's WATP. of course it has shreds and zumbas etc.. I am no where near that yet I will be one day though!!

Hope that your DD is feeling better soon, Abby! :flower3: You can do those exercise programs -- just take them at your own pace! :thumbsup2You've already had a lot of improvement with your walking!

Hello all, I did the 30 day Shred video today after my yoga class, it was my second time and it DID get a LITTLE easier:banana: But boy it is tough for this old lady:scared1: I can do it all except the push-ups. I force myself to do one "real" push-up and then do "girl" push-ups for the rest. It's hard for me to get up and down off the floor when they alternate strength and abs I guess even though I've been working out since last May I'm not in as good shape as I thought;) I definitely need more strength training. I'm going to get DH to do it with me one day; DS (13) certainly has no problems with it and he is using much larger hand weights than me!

Shawn I hear your voice in my head sounding like Arnold Schwarzenegger talking about "girlie" push-ups! You go, girl! :cheer2: I do my push ups on the wall for the Shred! :rotfl:

Awww, LTS, so sorry! I think that you did a great job working through it and figuring out what was really going on! :thumbsup2 You have a lot of strength and determination! :yay:

pixiedust: for you that it is a fast tax season!

pixiedust: for your foot, Buffy. Hope it gets to feeling better soon! :flower3:

A lot going on here to try and derail my efforts -- midterms, cranky people, different school schedules, but I am persevering and hoping for a nice, relaxing week-end (with an 8 mile run princess:) Thankfully in five short weeks I will be at WDW. That helps alot.

You can see that we all have similar issues across the threads -- full moon, holidays are really over, spring is a long time away! :sad2: So while we can't control what happens to us we are in charge of how we react to the various trials and tribulations that we encounter. So I urge you to not let these things derail your efforts in the areas that are really important to you -- like your health. You can deal with so much more when you are healthy! :flower3: This little article from sparkpeople is a good reminder that we are in charge of our attitudes.

The greatest day in your life and mine is when we take total responsibility for our attitudes. That's the day we truly grow up. - John Maxwell, author and public speaker

Breaking the world's control over your emotions
A lot in our past can be chalked up to inexperience, youth, and happenstance. But now, as an adult, you must claim your choices and their consequences as your own. Negative attitudes affect your life by creating cynicism, a pessimistic outlook, and often a lack of confidence. Take note of the ways you are escaping responsibility for your attitude. Do you continually blame situations, friends and family, or life in general for your poor mindset? The world has influence, without a doubt, but growing into a mature person means taking control of your emotions and attitude. Own them!

Have a great day DONALDS! :donald:

What time I woke up, how much sleep I got, if I didn't feel well, what I ate and what time, how much water I drank, how much, what type and what time I exercise.

I've used lots of things for journalling. A notebook is easy to write down everything that you eat but you have to figure out the calories, points, etc. later. I like mikamah's idea of the folded up piece of paper. There are also apps for your phone or computer programs.

I used the food and activity tracker for sparkpeople for a long time quite successfully. I like to keep track of activity too so I don't eat my way through my exercise burn. :goodvibes Now I am using the WW tracker. I find it very helpful to track what I am going to eat first then eat it. That way if I find something is a point buster I can make adjustments before it hits my mouth! ;)

Thanks again for coaching this week, Dreamer24! :flower3:

Morning all,

I just got engaged, so now there is even more incentive to get back on track (well that and the fact that I want to look good poolside when we head to WDW for our honeymoon!).

Have a great day everyone!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Congratulations!!!! Nothing like knowing you're going to be wearing a giant WHITE dress in front of ALL your friends and family to motivate you into good choices!! That's probably the last time I was truly motivated, that's why I'm guessing that! I was skinny as a rail, but I never, ever missed exercising, not one single day in that year before the wedding.

And with that, I'm admitting that I missed my workout yesterday and today's schedule isn't looking good either. I'm free at 9pm. Somebody tell me to get my butt on the treadmill tonight! We've got weigh in tomorrow morning!!

 Busy day today running DD10 to an appointment this am, then back to school, pick up at GS then take her to a class tonight. I am not sure who will be more exhausted, me or her!

DH and I had a great talk last night about our new way of eating. This really is so much easier with him completely on board. I even swallowed my pride and told him my weight , and he told me his. Interestingly we found out that we are at about the same. I hate guys. How come he just looks a bit big but I look FAT and we weigh the same?!! He is really trying to understand the principles behind it and how to be sure that we keep making good choices.

Congratulations! What a great incentive to keep you working towards you goal. :)
What are the issues you are having with eating at home? Anything we can help you with?

So if y'all could spare some pixie dust today, that would be great.
pixiedust: pixiedust: All that I can find is headed your way!

QOTD Thursday January 20, 2011 - There has been a lot of talk about journaling. Please share how you journal and what you record, is it just the foods or do you list calories, fat, protein, fiber, etc for each food?
I really only need to keep track what I actually eat, but since I use Spark People it tracks all of that stuff anyway. I do use their numbers to help me also see where I am in keeping to a South Beach style diet. Since SP evaluates how many calories, fat, protein, carbs etc I should be consuming in order to lose I figure if I am staying within their numbers, except for too low on carbs and at the high end of protein then I am doing great. I love their graphs to show how each day went.

I do wish they had a way to enter the time you ate each meal. There is a notes section where I can put in any other things I want to keep track of.

Time to get off here and let the running begin. :car:

I have been using the Lose it app and so far it is working for me. It tracks calories. I think it will track all the other stuff: fat, protein, etc, but I don't use that part.
