TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Buffy -- I'm going to make a radical suggestion. While I think you should keep the Disney 5K plan and do it if you can, I would also suggest training for a 5K closer to home first. You can probably do a local 5K for a minimal cost, and that will give you something sooner to shoot for, and also get you into the spirit and mode of training. Plus, then you'll be able to say that having a race keeps you motivated (that's one of my phrases, and also very true!), and that way your family can see you do a race, if it doesn't work out for them to come to WDW. I had my first solo trip for the Princess this year, and it was a great experience. I did all kinds of things I normally wouldn't -- like the movie in China, Hall of Presidents, 3 parks in one day -- It was so freeing to make the trip all about me, and I was able to really focus on my race without worrying about anyone or anything else. Plus, there were so many WISHers there, I wasn't alone all that much. Between Meets and hanging out with people I met on the DIS, I pretty much had someone available if I wanted to be part of a group. When I came home, I was a much happier wife and Mommy because I had the experience, and that is nothing to feel guilty about! :thumbsup2

I've been looking, in fact DS9's school is having a race next weekend but I've already committed to having a girls weekend at the Cape.
My goal is to get up early (they all know I sleep late) and go for a quick run/walk around the midway and then scrap. I will also walk to the cafeteria for meals instead of drive.

Good Thursday morning Team Donald Happy St Patrick's Day. I have to go up and find something green to wear. Why do I never think of this until the morning of St Pat's day.

Had quiet night last night. Dh and I watched some tv and then went to bed. Ds's watched a movie. I don't know what they are planning for today. They have been pretty much staying around the house for this week.

jimmduck good lluck on the trial

BernardandMissBianca it's great that they will eat fruits and veggies. I am stil having a hard time getting mine to eat them. They will eat them when I least expect them to.

Worfiedoodles I hope you get your run in this morning.

Missoutandabout I know what you mean about steel cut oatmeal. It takes about 30 minutes in a microwave but you can only cook it on high for 5 minutes and then it needs to be on 50% power or it will boil over. After you have had steel cut oats it is hard to eat any other oatmeal.

lovetoscrap I am having a hard time with the time change also. I have been trying to get to sleep earlier to get used to it.

lisah0711 good luck with ds. It can be tough if it is a girl problem.

sparks19 I know what you mean about the hair. It is nice to have a nice hair day once in a while

SettinSail glad you had a fun time at the museum. I love to visit museums but I haven't been to one in a while.

RemembertheMagic98 How was your book club? As much as I love to read I have never joined a book club.

Off to get ready for school. I have gotten a couple of emails to change the test in one of my classes.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Good morning Donalds:goodvibes I am having a LAZY day here so far. There is a thick fog outside and it looks like it is chilly out too. It's a run day for me so I put a 12:00 deadline on myself to get out there and do it!

I've watched both BL and AI this morning and gotten through my usual routine of dishes, laundry and bed making. I babysat for my friend last night so she could attend a wine tasting. I'm not that into wine so I didn't really care to go although I did have a few moments last night when I thought to myself what the heck am I doing this for !?! DS is her regular babysitter but he couldn't do it. The girls were good but they exhausted me! Got all of the transportation booked for my friend's visit in May. We are going to Paris, London and Prague. It was very difficult for me to figure it all out. We've travelled a lot over here but only one destination at a time. She wants to do all this in 8 days:scared1: We have some very early flights at some airports I'm not familiar with so I just pray it all works out. I will try not to fret over here from now until May but I am a big worry wart;)

All the TV I watched this morning has inspired our QOTD:

Do you have a favorite on Biggest Loser or American Idol?

If not, do you have a favorite TV show? If you don't watch TV, feel free to criticize those of us that do:laughing:

Dona, I am glad you took the day off yesterday. We all need a day like that once in awhile.

Linda, good luck with the trial. No matter what happens, it will be over after today (I think?!?)

Maria, thanks for adding some spice to our group:goodvibes Your 3 non-sweating days actually inspired yesterday's QOTD...
How did your new do turn out? Do you like it?

Buffy: I didn't know that about lice:eek:

LTS, a day off from the gym is OK. I think it's better than going when you're tired and not feeling well.

Good luck to everyone adjusting to the time zone, strange how that one hour can throw us off. We don't change until March 27.

Inspired by Maria's 10 mile run!!!! I'm going to get out there in this misty fog and get it over with. This might not be pretty...

Have a great day Donalds and Happy St Patrick's Day!

Shawnprincess:

Oops, forgot to answer the QOTD

I like Scotty but Pia is also very talented. On BL, I love Courtney. What a great attitude and she is a beautiful girl. It is just sickening to see such a beautiful young lady who has ruined her health and appearance but so very motivating to see her fight to get it back.

Have a great day!

I watch BL on & off, but haven't watched enough this season to have a favorite. I never watch American Idol.

Some of my favorite shows: Grays Anatomy, American Pickers, Pawn Stars & An Idiot Abroad.

Do you wash your hair every day?

Yes, most days. Once in a while I just rinse & restyle, but my hair seems to get oily if I don't wash it daily.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hope you all have a happy, healthy, day!!!

Good morning TEAM DONALD!

Thank you, Shawn for being our coach this week! :flower3: You've done a great job and had some great questions!

My hair is the type that should be washed once a week at most, so no, I do not wash it every day. My stylist would kill me  I'm probably the only one providing any diversity to this thread ;)

Maria, I would love to have beautiful thick hair like yours. I'm like Shawn and want to know how your new 'do turned out. :cool2:

Thanks for the pep talk everyone!!!

Hopefully things will start working themselves out soon! I'll weather the storm like a true New Englanders.

Ayuh! You can do it! :goodvibes

Linda, good luck with the trial today. :flower3:

Good Thursday morning Team Donald Happy St Patrick's Day. I have to go up and find something green to wear. Why do I never think of this until the morning of St Pat's day.

::yes:: Washing a green shirt right now -- lots of other colors available but, of course, no green! I still suffer from the emotional scars of over 40 years ago when I did not wear green in the second grade. :sad2:

QOTD Thursday March 17, 2011 Do you have a favorite on Biggest Loser or American Idol?

:lmao:

I don't watch AI but I do watch BL. I like Courtney, too, she has been very successful. I like Hannah and Olivia, too. I'm not overly fond of any of the guys who are left. I think they are big time game players -- I'm waiting to see how they turn on one another. It's going to happen sooner or later.

Nice poem, Christin! :flower3:

Kathy, I have to say that green jumping guy kind of scares me! :rotfl:

Have a great day TEAM DONALD! :donald:

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Would you believe I was actually in Ireland for one St. Pat's Day and they really do not make a big deal about it! I think us Americans just like to have an excuse to look silly and drink :thumbsup2

Quick stop in here as I have committed myself to getting through some digital scrap pages today. My book club was great last night!! If you get the chance, pick up "Finny" by Justin Kramon. Justin visited with us last night for the meeting (he lives in Philly) and gave us such insight into writing a novel (and he's a sweet guy to boot....unfortunately for me he is engaged :sad2:) Anyway, his next book is about a food journey of some nature....YUM! It should be out in late 2012.

QOTD: I wash my hair everyday because I just thin I feel better when it's clean. I don't watch American Idol and only catch Biggest Loser once in a while...no favorites for me to speak of. Now, if you want to know about The Amazing Race....

Enjoy the Irishness of the day :shamrock::shamrock:

:wave2: Subing this afternoon-- the secretary remembered me this time! :rotfl: This is the same class I was in a few weeks ago so that makes it even easier. I know they go to resource in the afternoon and I think recess too so should be a pretty easy afternoon.

But it took me about an hour to get dressed this morning! I tried and tried and tried and I just don't have anything green that is "professional"-- the ones I do have were just way to big :teeth: and also long sleeved so I would have died of heat-it is going to be almost 70 today. My short sleeved stuff is just to casual. SO, I am going to be entering a class of first graders on St. Patrick's Day with NO GREEN! I am going to see if I can find a shamrock sticker in my scrapbooking stuff to put on my shirt. Hopefully that will cover me!

Since that took so long I wasn't able to run to the gym :headache: I had planned to get up and get my clothes together and go but the whole green thing just threw me for a loop. I am considering possibly trying to go this afternoon. Not sure if that would just throw my kids into a tailspin since it would really disrupt our routine (and we really like routine!)

Just a quick "Lent pop in" - very stressed over trial tomorrow.:confused3
Good Luck!:thumbsup2

Enjoy your run!

I don't watch BL and keep forgetting to DVR it. I love AI but our local station and Dish network have been in a contract dispute so I missed it the last 2 weeks  However I went to turn on the TV last night and there was AI being recorded so I guess the fight is over! So I have to find the time to watch it and catch up. I am not sure who is still on it (don't tell me!) but I like the Country Guy with the deep voice just because he is a cutie and seems so sweet, and the guy with Aspergers. Alot of my friends like Casey (?) and I think he has a great voice but something about him creeps me out. They keep saying he is being fun and playful but he sort of has that serial killer look in his eyes to me. I can't remember the girls, I think because none of them really impressed me.

I love reality shows and the "non scripted" shows-- that is mostly what I watch.

Would you believe I was actually in Ireland for one St. Pat's Day and they really do not make a big deal about it! I think us Americans just like to have an excuse to look silly and drink :thumbsup2

QOTD: Now, if you want to know about The Amazing Race....
Gosh hard to believe-- us American's finding an excuse to party, make fools of ourselves and drink heavily? ;)

LOVE Amazing Race. Definitely our favorite. I really miss The Mole too. DH and I loved that show.

Gotta run and figure out what I need to take out for dinner and get a lunchbox together for this afternoon. And find something green for my shirt!

Have great ON PROGRAM day everyone!:cheer2:

Good morning Donalds and happy St. Patrick's day!

I totally forgot about it being St. Patrick's day until I got in the car this morning, so no green for me :sad2: Oh well. My BF and I usually celebrate St. Patrick's day in conjunction with his brithday by going out to the bars and having some beers, but I don't think we are going to this year. Some people from the office are going out after work, but I'm not sure if I will join them. A Guinness actually sounds delicious :drinking1, but BF and I talked about playing raquetball this evening so I might skip the bad-for-me beer in favor of the good-for-me exercise :thumbsup2 But honestly, I could be swayed either way :rolleyes1

I used to watch Biggest Loser religiously, but since Tuesday is bowling night, I haven't seen any of it this season. And I have never really watched AI. I am with the others though...I love Amazing Race! I keep telling my BF we should try to be on it. I think that we would fight a lot though...but it would make for good television, right :rotfl2:

Wishing you all a happy, green, day!

I did better with choices yesterday and was down a pound this morning, now only up 2 lbs. I did find the potato chip bag back in my hand about 4:00 yesterday afternoon but I was finally able to put it back up.

At least there was something left in the bag to make it worth putting away!! :rotfl: Ifind a get a very defeatist attitude when I do something like that I figure "might as well finish it"! why, why why???:headache:

I'm proud of you for stopping and putting it back.

As for DS, he has always weighed a lot (75%-80% percentile for weight)but always looked average in appearance. His Dr always tells us he should be concerned according to his number but he would not worry about it because he "looks fine". Right now he's close to 14, 5'6, 130 lbs. They can change so quickly at this age. In a few months your dtr could be the same weight but 3-4 inches taller!

DS is just turned 13 y/o (end of Jan.), about 5' 6" and 130 pounds... just like your DS.... and I would NEVER think he was even CLOSE to being considered overweight!!! I hope your DS doesn't think he has any issues. He sounds just perfect to me!! And if he is bothered..... remind him how much growing he has coming up!! My DS has shot up over 3 inches since last summer.... his feet are HUGE, his hands are HUGE.... he has become a different child in the last 12 months!

QOTD Tuesday March 15, 2011
What is your best tip for keeping your life organized. Clearly we are all juggling many things and trying to keep everything running smoothly. What have you found keeps you most organized?

PLANNING and LISTS!! I make lists for everything! When I'm bored, I start creating a new list. Currently I have 3 lists on my fridge and two on the pad in my bag. The ones are the fridge are my "spring cleaning schedule", my workout schedule for this week, and my menu plans/shopping lists made up through April 5th.

On the note pad are mostly the lists I was working on during my (boring) workshop day yesterday. It is a to-do list for today and tomorrow and a packing list for my Mother/Daughter trip in May.

Probably one of the MOST helpful things I've ever done for myself regarding organization has been instituting longterm menu planning. Our evenings are perpetually nutty with swim, robotics, workouts, skiing/snowboarding, etc, etc, etc. I HATE cooking and it made it even more of a PITA when I never knew what to make (and nothing was ever defrosted). I didn't plan ahead much so I could NEVER try new recipes because I didn't have the ingredients (keeping in mind we live 20+ minutes from the nearest Mom&Pop grocery store).

I keep a scrap pad in the car for when I am stuck in traffic or waiting at a red light or waiting to pick up a child. If I think of stuff that needs to be done/bought/cleaned/ordered/picked up/put away/thrown away/made/whatever..... I start making a list.

For example..... while in the car on Monday, this was the list I made....

make naturopath appt for DS
make consignment appointment
return Netflix
order contacts
mail bills
make physical appoint. with primary care
drop grocery bags in recycling bin at Shaw's
buy bok choy, scallions, brown rice

Pretty basic..... but it worked. I left the list in the car and was able to accomplish almost all of it while I was out on Tuesday (except the contact lenses.... still haven't done that ).

The Thurs/Fri list looks like this....

pay credit cards online
order Disney tickets
make rental car reservation
finish menu planning through June
Move cash from checking to savings
mail package to SIOH
check Coinstar website for possible Disney card bonus??
check Discover card for possible Disney card bonus??
buy b.day gift for Eva
make haircut appointment for me and DD
give DH tax info
if not working do powercleaning for downstairs
print directions to pool for Saturday

Well.... I loved this question. As you can tell, I could talk all day about organization and planning!! I know some of you mentioned not loving it so much. Wish I could come help you!!

My ds2 loves meatloaf and I don't know if they serve it very often at college. When I was making I took some of the mixture and made him two mini loafs to take back with him. I also have some veggies to make a sandwich for lunch.

pjlla How is dh doing?

First off... DH is doing GREAT! He is still attending therapy for his hand and gets frustrated when he can't grab something or drops something. But he is making progress. Not sure if he will be able to attempt any golfing this summer and hopefully that isn't too frustrating. But we presume at this point that all of his function will eventually return. Thanks for asking.

Second.... my DS loves my meatloaf too! And I find that so surprising because I really disliked meatloaf growing up. DS and DH had meatloaf last night.

OK my day yesterday:

Let's see I wanted to throw in the towel multiple times over the weekend and it overflowed into yesterday and today. I'm so frustrated with the scale and food.
I need to reevaluate. The scale is continuing to move in the wrong direction, but I have no idea where to start. Well I need to start with food but frankly I am not well versed in healthy foods, calorie counting and the what not. And I've been fighting with the kids, no matter what I cook someone has to complain. Last night it was a fight over broccoli and green beans, I mean really? Just freakin eat it!!!

I did have mom get DD yesterday and I walked/ran the green, in the snow! We had a squall yesterday about 1/2 way round the track. I didn't have a choice but the finish because one lap is 1.6 miles, I was stuck. And cold. But I went around twice which was a 5K. I wanted to see how long it would take me. It took 55 minutes to walk 3.10 miles. My average pace was 17:32, not good enough for Disney but close. At one point a decent jog was a 14 minute pace, I just need to get there consistently.

And DH got news on the job front. He was working with a company that lied to some very important people, so he left just 4 weeks after starting. He moved to the place he's at now. Well liar company just purchased the place he's at now. He's really not sure what to do. The liars sat there yesterday and were like oh we'll do great things, we are here for the people, you won't just be a number. Yada Yada..... Liars really really want him to stay but I just don't think anything has changed and DH does not need to be mixed up in their drama. We have some job options but it's going to be a crazy few months while it all gets worked out.

ARGH!!! Thanks for letting me vent!!
I need to go do housework or go somewhere before I stuff my face again.

:hug:Wish I could be there to help. First of all.... sorry things are getting strange with DH's job. Prayers that everything will work out with that. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise and he will end up with a position that would allow him to be home more.

Second..... I am proud of you that you got yourself out there running in the cold, rain, snow, whatever! Especiallly when you are feeling so frustrated!
I am going to say that I want to totally SECOND the planning ahead that LTS suggested. I have done that in the past when I felt like things were going downhill and it has worked WONDERS!! In fact, even before she mentioned it, I had it in my head that I might need a few weeks of it if things didn't move well on the scale this week.

Basically, like LTS suggested, you decide ahead of time what you are going to eat for each meal and snack, including portions sizes. Figure out your points/calories/carbs.....whatever it is you count, record it IN INK in your journal.... and STICK WITH IT! For some reason, to me, if it is written, it is LAW!

One other quick suggestion.... Have you considered making up your own "pre-ordered meal plan"? Spend a weekend cooking up some healthy delicious meals... portion them out into freezer containers and you have just made your own version of Nutri-System! This is another thing that I have done in the past that works really well. I spend a few days making up some healthier meals that I really enjoy.... and I try to make some of them something kind of special.... something I might not take the time to normally make during the week. I've bought very inexpensive square freezer containers, measured out the portion, labeled (content, calories, date), and done! Pea soup for lunch today... no problem! Curried chicken for dinner.... done! I'd be happy to "talk" more about it if you are interested..... either here or on the meal planning thread.

Totally forgot that I wanted to offer some advice on this too.

Reverse Journaling.

Come and join us on the Meal Planning thread. Set aside an hour to sit down and make a list and decide what your meals for 5-7 days will be. ALL your meals. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks. I find it helps if I make a list of all my breakfast options, all my lunch options etc... and add in the important information like WW points or calories and fat, whatever I am tracking.

Then you go ahead and write your journal for the week right then and there. Instead of writing down what you ate, you are writing down what you WILL eat. And that is what you eat. If it isn't in the journal you don't eat it. Post the list on the refrigerator door. Try to find a few hours to prep things like putting crackers in individual serving baggies, slice cheese, cut veggies etc so it is quick and easy when you don't have time. Make yourself a "lunch bag" and put your food for the day in a brown bag in the refrigerator. The yogurt, veggies, salad dressing, whatever you have planned for so when you need something you go to that bag.

You can go ahead and do this on line in Spark People (not sure about the other one, Fit day?) and it will count it all for you.

I know I sound like a broken record when I say how much I love South Beach but if you are having problems tracking calories or points or whatever then it really may be an easier option for you. No counting, very little measuring. If it is allowed you can have it and if it isn't you skip it or limit it.

Have to run right now but you know you can PM me or post here if want to talk more. Or just ignore me! My family does!

ETA: Forgot to say the reason to join us on the Planning thread is so you can post what your plan is and ask for advice if you would like on what changes might need to be made or things to add in.

As I mentioned above, I have done the "reverse journaling" in the past (never heard that term.... but I like it!) and it works so well!! It was a great suggestion for Buffy.... or for anyone here! Thanks for taking the time to talk about it!

UGH. That was a total waste of calories, fat, carbs, time and money. Several people I know have raved that this is the best Chinese food they have had so I have been dying to try it. OMG! If that is true then I really, really don't want to know where they have been eating. It was bad.I will give them credit that the quality of their Hibachi beef and pork was better than I have usually seen, and they refurbished the restaurant beautifully. But it was the same bland, boring, nasty, icky buffet food you find at most every mediocre or less low cost Chinese buffet.

While I ate more than I should have to be on program I certainly didn't eat anything near what I expected to. And I really didn't eat much else today in anticipation of this so I think I am going to be quadruple good the next few days and see if I can still get a loss this week.

Sorry it was icky.... but at least it won't be tempting you any more. We "discovered" an excellent chinese/american buffet in the city (actually.... we were invited by both Korean friends and Taiwanese friends.... so we figured it was good!!:thumbsup2 ) and it is fabulous.... but I find myself constantly trying to find a reason to be in the city on the weekend "needing" to stop for dinner!:rotfl2: One of the nice things is the HUGE selection. In addition to some traditional americanized chinese offerings, they also have a sushi bar and a "make to order" stir-fry station.... and plenty of American type offerings for DS who doesn't care for chinese (and shouldn't eat it because of his allergies). But my favorite two things are the sushi bar and the seaweed salad! See.... now you got me thinking about it and I'm craving it! It's all your fault!

I've been reading but missed today. I didn't pos only because I didn't have anything to offer.
I'm really considering some sort of meal plan. Biggest loser, medifast, Jenny Craig, South beach, something. I need to just get the ball rolling for myself, and just feed to family something different.

Argh! I just wish DH were home so I didn't feel so overwhelmed!! If he were here I could focus on the food part while he was helping with homework and entertaining the kids.

If you get any information on the BL plan, I'd love to hear more about it. The little bit of Nutrisystem and JC foods I have tried in the past were only "decent" at best.

Buffy... seriously.... with your schedule and DH being gone so much, you need to start PLANNING your meals ahead more. I think you would feel so much LESS pressure and less overwhelmed at meals if you did.

OK, need to vent!!!

Mom guilt is kicking in big time over this 5K at Disney.
I really really want to go, I need this goal to keep me motivated. But now I'm feeling guilty about spending the money. I'm having a really hard time justifying the price of flights.

DH had talked about all of us driving down but then that jacks to price up even more. I would love for them to be there but Gaahh!!! I don't know what to do.

I know if I drop this race I may just end up falling completely off the wagon. I can not afford to do that!!

I need some guidance! Talk me down people, talk me down!!

I guess for me it would depend on the MONEY. Is the mortgage going to go unpaid? Are you going to go without groceries? Unpaid credit cards? Then definitely CANCEL!! It isn't worth that kind of financial stress.

But if you are just feeling guilt... "we should save it", "I don't really need it", "we should buy new ________(fill in the blank with whatever practical item you currently need.... carpeting, tires, washing machine).... then I think you could find a way to make it work!!

Take another look at flights.... changing airlines or flight times might save your some $$. Where are you staying? Pop?? Not much cheaper onsite than that... but would you consider off-site? (I know.... blasphemaous talk here!). I know we save a LOT of money with FOOD in the parks. When DS and I went last year, we actually packed about half a suitcase with breakfast items... cereal bars, cocoa mix, juice boxes, raisins, homemade muffins (low cal/high fiber) oatmeal packets. Our plan was to do breakfast in the room every morning and counter service or snacks for all other meals. He isn't a "foodie" and couldn't really care less about the fancy restaurants. As it turns out, we got upgraded to Club Level and had breakfast provided every day! It was GREAT. And we saved our breakfast stuff for in-park snacks and afternoon breaks back at the hotel.

Are you getting a rental car? If so, could you eliminate it and use ME?

It seems like there are a few things you could look into before cancelling all together. DS could receive Disney Dollars (or a Disney card) in his Easter basket to cover his spending money. Where are you getting your park tickets? Are you AP holders?

I hope you don't decide that you have to cancel, but if you do, please find another race/event to get signed up for if that is what you need to keep yourself motivated.

QOTD Wednesday March 16, 2011
Do you wash your hair every day?

Well... I try not to... but it really depends on my schedule and workouts. I try to organize it so that I do a morning workout one day and then an evening workout the next day. That way I can shower after the morning workout and then not get "icky" again until the following evening. But sometimes the schedule just doesn't allow for that much flexibility. Generally speaking, I try NOT to be seen anywhere decent if the hair hasn't been washed in at least 48 hours. That said... I could go three days pretty easily if I am just hanging around the house. But usually I get too icky during a workout and can't stand myself and need to wash the hair!!

Well, I didn't feel like going out to run this morning, but said if it wasn't raining, I would, so I prayed for the rain to start, but it didn't, so I did 3 miles. Now I'm glad I did it, but sometimes it's hard to get motivated to go.

I'm so glad you found the motivation!! I'm pleased for you.

Hi Buffy! I'm not a mom, so I'm not sure I can offer much insight on mom-guilt, but what I can say is this: You will not for one second regret the tings you do to make yourself healthier. :thumbsup2 Think of the motivation trip as something that will actually make you a better mom. It shows your kids that being healthy is important and it will give you the motivation to stay healthy to ensure that you will be around a long time for your kids. I can also say that even though I have ammassed more debt than I should have by traveling a lot, I don't regret the places and things I have experienced while taking those trips

WISE WORDS!!!!!!

Sometimes I feel like a pigeon and other times I feel like the statue. This week is without a doubt a "statue" week....getting pooped on sucks!

I was rolling along and this past week the wheels have fallen off my wagon! Bad choices and boredom have been the culprits. I'm back on track today (bypassed McD's for breakfast) and have packed my day with digital scrapbooking, the gym, and my book club this evening at the Atlanta Bread Company (where I will have the Greek salad). We read "Finny" by Justin Kramon and the author is actually coming to our discussion tonight :cool1: I really liked the book too!

Hang in there Donalds! Since we are experiencing more rain here in NJ, all I can say is: Just Keep Swimming :fish:

Sorry about the POOP!! :lmao: Enjoy your scrapping, workout, and bookclub. Glad you are back on track.

Like many others here have posted, I am in need of a kick-in-the-pants, slap-in-the-face wake up call!!! I am still rocking the daily exercise and water but not making good food choices and not taking time to plan ahead.

As long as you are keeping up with at least SOME of this journey, you are moving in the right direction. The other things will come along.... sometimes on their own, sometimes with some big efforts. Look back at some of the words of advise we've been giving Buffy. Would any of that stuff help you??

Ugh, I have no words for this.....snow, really?? How can you stand it !

I CAN'T stand it!! I HATE it!! It was supposed to be a bit of mixed precipitation in the morning changing to rain and then sun..... instead it was snow in the morning changing to sleet/freezing rain... leaving big slush puddles everywhere.... followed by a full day of heavy clouds, rain, fog. :headache:

My hair is the type that should be washed once a week at most, so no, I do not wash it every day. My stylist would kill me  I'm probably the only one providing any diversity to this thread ;)

You mean your IRISH???!!:lmao: Happy St. Patricks day!!

[Pamela -- I'm glad your snow was rain for us. I think I would have given up if I awoke to snow. I am done of winter :cold:

Well... after yesterday it is so nice to have bright sun today. In fact.... I had a "first for the year" event today..... I hung a load of towels on the clothes line!!!! (Had to stand on snow to do it, but hey....)

Good afternoon team Donald.

I took the day off. I just couldn't handle the meeting they were having this morning. I just relaxed today. The weather this morning was wet and I was very achy this morning. It is better this afternoon and I am feeling better. I will be moving costumes in a little while. the costumes need to be in their secure place so they are going there in a little while.

Since I took the day off I will be making corned beef and cabbage for dinner and we can have leftovers for tomorrow. I need to make some Irish soda bread when I get home from the costume run. I never make my potatoes and cabbage in the beef cooking liquid. I hate the taste of them that way. I usually boil the potatoes with no butter and microwave/steam the cabbage.

Wish I could come over for dinner. I LOVE corned beef and cabbage.... but I'm the only one here who does, so I never bother to cook it. But I GOTTA have everything cooked in the cooking liquid.... SO YUMMY! Cabbage, potatoes, onions, carrots....MMMMMMM!

Enjoy your dinner and your soda bread!

Still jealous that you are attending this without me! Have fun and maybe I could plan it for next year!

Do you have a favorite on Biggest Loser or American Idol?

If not, do you have a favorite TV show? If you don't watch TV, feel free to criticize those of us that do:laughing:

Don't watch Idol, but watch BL (alone.... family doesn't like it). Like Shawn, I'm rooting for Courtney. She is amazing!! She has such a great ethic and such motivation for someone so young and SO overweight! It CAN be done without medical intervention.... even for someone so big! She has lost 199 pounds (as of this past Tuesday's show) and has a ways to go... but she is still so on top of things!! I see her going far in life!

Well.....happy sunny St. Patrick's day!! Like I said above.... I am pleased to report that the first clothesline load of the season is out!! I had to step over snowpiles to do it... but it's out there! Hopefully the sun and breeze will overcome the temps (in the low 40's) and dry those towels by 5pm!!

Well.... I gave myself "permission" to be on here until 9:30 am.... and it is now 10:49!! I've had to stop and start several times.... made breakfast, typed a bit, hung out towels, typed a bit, helped DH compose an email to DS's teacher, typed a bit. And now my morning is essentially gone!! So much for this morning's power cleaning!!! And I haven't hit the TM yet!! :scared1: It's gonna be one of those days that disappears in a FLASH!! Oh well.... I guess the dirt and dust bunnies will be waiting for me tomorrow!:thumbsup2

Tonight's dinner was made a few days ago and I am SO looking forward to it. Curried chicken and brown rice.... probably with a side of broccoli or cauliflower. I love that all I have to do is cook the rice and broccoli..... the rest is in a pot ready to get warmed up!!

Well.... the day is flying by and I am still sitting here! Love talking to you all, but gotta check on the meal planning thread and with my scrapping friends too! TTYL..................P

Do you have a favorite on Biggest Loser or American Idol?

I'd have to say Courtney too. Wether she loses 1 pound or 10 pounds she is so grateful and graceful. She will be the real Biggest Loser because she "gets it". Her mom is awesome too, never has a bad thing to say about anyone. I love the Biggest Loser especially when the players get along. I think those that play the game aren't seeing the big picture.

Inspired by Maria's 10 mile run!!!! I'm going to get out there in this misty fog and get it over with. This might not be pretty...

Have fun!! Can't wait to hear all about it.

Today has not been great so far. I fell asleep on the couch last night and my shoulder is really paying the price today. I had a pretty decent breakfast today, I'm gonna go eat a yogurt in a bit, then head next door to mom's. The head of maintenance is building a community garden at school (can't wait to reap the benefits of that!) and he is taking some of mom's rhubarb plants.
Then I have a meeting with the principal at 1. Then have to do my round robin of picking up kids.
We may go for a walk on the green after school though. It's gorgeous today!!!

:LOVE Amazing Race. Definitely our favorite. I really miss The Mole too. DH and I loved that show.

Amazing Race and Survivor are our two "family night" shows. The Mole is available on Netflix.... DS has it in the queue right now................P

Well.... I loved this question. As you can tell, I could talk all day about organization and planning!! I know some of you mentioned not loving it so much. Wish I could come help you!!

you need to come and take over my life!!!!! :rotfl2:

:hug:Wish I could be there to help. First of all.... sorry things are getting strange with DH's job. Prayers that everything will work out with that. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise and he will end up with a position that would allow him to be home more.

So far we have opted to stay put and ride the wave. He's had multiple talks with the CEO of his current company and he has DH's back.

Are you sure you won't travel the country and help people get on track?????

If you get any information on the BL plan, I'd love to hear more about it. The little bit of Nutrisystem and JC foods I have tried in the past were only "decent" at best.

I will let you know!

Buffy... seriously.... with your schedule and DH being gone so much, you need to start PLANNING your meals ahead more. I think you would feel so much LESS pressure and less overwhelmed at meals if you did.

I usually do plan dinners, I need to get better at planning breakfast and lunch. Lunch is the hardest because I never know where I'll be that particular day. When I'm volunteering at school I will buy lunch there now. We have a real live chef for the school cook now and his food is amazing!!! And it's healthy. Lots of home made soups and what not. And he portions the adult meals just like he does the kids.

Right now the deal is the airfare. I have poured over every airline, changed dates, etc. I know I could save a little money if we flew back Monday but the HS is hard core about days off, I don't think they would let me take DS out for 2 days. We were looking at leaving late Thursday because he has a 1/2 day that day so he would only miss Friday.

Everything is paid bills wise, that's not a big issue. It's just $600 for flights would pay for clothes for the kids, pay off the paypal bill, could be a good down payment on a new bulkhead door. Etc... Just plain mom guilt.

I haven't booked a room yet, but I was looking at All Stars. The race has a pretty good discounted room price. I thought about ME but I might just hire a driver, that's what we usually do. Using ME will save me $100 though, so I need to think about it.

I always pack my own breakfast! LOL I'm so cheap! DS is a foodie but he'd be just as happy with counter service. I hadn't planned to do any table service.

I have a AP but I need a ticket for DS.

Still jealous that you are attending this without me! Have fun and maybe I could plan it for next year!
end of March. Once I get the dates I'll let you know.

See Red!

Missoutandabout I know what you mean about steel cut oatmeal. It takes about 30 minutes in a microwave but you can only cook it on high for 5 minutes and then it needs to be on 50% power or it will boil over. After you have had steel cut oats it is hard to eat any other oatmeal.

Had it for breakfast today. Mmmmmmmm! Made a big batch and put it in the fridge. Wasn't too bad heating up in the microwave and adding some milk to make it less wallpaper-pasty. I haven't had steel cut in a long, long time but I remembered the texture immediately. Much more "tooth" to it. Very tasty. :) It's so nice to add some variety to breakfast. We'd just been doing eggs, eggs and more eggs. I was starting to scratch at the dirt when I went outside.

QOTD for Thursday: I don't watch either. After a long pause, I've only now just recalled the last reality show I've watched: The Apprentice (UK). We're more computer-dork type of people. :surfweb:

buffy....

guess I got lucky with the airfare. that is usually the big sticking point for our trips as well. We use the Southwest Airlines Chase Visa and usually earn about 1 ticket every 12-16 months (not big cc users) and fortunately it timed out well that I had one free ticket coming last year when I took DS to WDW and I had another one coming this year! I looked (and looked and looked and looked) at the dates and prices and kept waiting for them to drop a bit.... but I finally bit the bullet and bought it when I thought it looked "okay". I know from past experience that SWA will sometimes give a refund on your cc or, at least, a SWA credit if the prices go down (they have done BOTH for me in the past). I think, in hindsight I was lucky that I booked it when I did cause with all the h_ll that has broken loose in the middle east lately and oil prices, I'm SURE that the airline prices have spiked.

I paid (direct nonstop from Manchester to Orlando) $209.40 (including all fees) for my ticket and a grand total of $5.00 for DD's!! That is departing late on a Thursday night and returning late on a Monday.

Yup.... she's in high school and I'm pulling her out for two days. I already called the school to ask about their policy.... if they were going to give her a hard time, then I was going to call her in sick (I know, I know.... I shouldn't teach my child to lie...), but apparently they DO have a policy in place for students in good standing (gradewise). She will have to do a bit of paperwork and notify the office and her teachers 5 days in advance of that Thursday and it will be considered an excused absence. I was happy to hear that! Of course, she will be killing herself to make up the missed work.... but she is an excellent student and I know she won't let this hurt her grades.

If it were just you I would be happy to share our room over at the Hilton.... but I'm afraid that the whole "14 y/o boy and 15 y/o girl sharing a room" thing wouldn't go over well with either of them!!

If ME can save you $100, I would definitely do it! That $100 could pay for one night's hotel or a half of DS's park ticket (depending on how many days you are buying, of course).

I do wish I could go back to school and get a degree in "planning and organizing"! I think I would really enjoy working with people and helping them get things organized in their lives. I think I'd also love to be a party planner!

In reality, the closest thing I might actually do IRL is go to work for Weight Watchers. I've been throwing the idea around for a while now and I guess I just need to bite the bullet.

Gotta get moving............P

Yeah, I don't think we need to borrow trouble with the room sharing thing! LOL

DH usually has tickets for free but he's been driving to DC now (make more money that way) so no free flights for us.

I'm gonna look again today.

I actually had a meeting with the head of student affairs yesterday, and I said you didn't hear this but I'm pulling DS out of school for a few days to run a race in Disney. LOL

Good Afternoon, Donalds!

Buffy -- Enjoy your time on the Cape! Sounds like you will have plenty of walking opportunities. I took the ME instead of a town car like we usually do in Feb., it wasn't a problem at all. Definitely worth the savings!

Pamela -- I am lovin' that airfare! If I wasn't 5 minutes from Logan...You would be a great at WW -- are you thinking of being a receptionist or a leader? You could do either, and I would want to lose weight for you! ::yes:: Oh, and yes, I am Irish! :shamrock: :rotfl: I don't look it, but my birth mother had red hair and blue eyes, and the name on my initial birth certificate (which the state mistakenly sent to my mom), was Anna Magee. My maiden name starts with an "A", so I always thought that was kind of interesting, A.M. to M.A....Can't judge a book by it's cover. People assume my redheaded, blue-eyed husband is Irish, but he's actually French-Canadian!

Lisa and Shawn -- I highly recommend the keratin process if you have unruly, thick, curly or kinky hair. It's actually really popular with ladies across ethnic groups who have this issue -- anybody see the Brazilian Blow Out thread on the Budget Board? My hair is smooth, soft, and so much more manageable! It's not damaged, and it's just a pleasure. Definitely worth the 3 days of not sweating!

QOTD Tuesday March 15, 2011
What is your best tip for keeping your life organized. Clearly we are all juggling many things and trying to keep everything running smoothly. What have you found keeps you most organized?

Never answered this one...I am a calendar and lists kind of girl. I have lists for work, lists for home, lists for church, and my Blackberry is indispensible. I've actually been falling down on my home a lot lately, with focusing so much of my effort on weight loss and not feeling like I have enough energy to keep it up. The best strategy for me is to do a little each day, write everything down, and get that feeling of satisfaction when I cross it off! ;)

QOTD Thursday March 17, 2011
Do you have a favorite on Biggest Loser or American Idol?

Don't watch AI, but I agree with the group, my favorite on BL is definitely Courtney. I am addicted to far too much tv -- a typical week for me this Spring includes Masterpiece Classic or Contemporary, Mike & Molly, Castle, Hawaii 5-0, Stargate Universe, BL, Glee, What Not to Wear, The Middle, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, Grey's Anatomy, Merlin, and both BBCAmerica and SyFy versions of Being Human -- not to mention The Daily Show and the Colbert Report. I just gave up General Hospital because I cannot go where they are going storyline wise. We'll see if I want to pick it up again next month. Thought I'd try OLTL again -- but if I'm not hooked by Monday, it's not happening unless Roger Howarth returns. For him, I'd come back

So, this morning I ended up doing 5M instead of 10 -- ds needed my help with a project, and I couldn't devote 2 hrs to running. Still, I felt pretty good and I'm happy with it.

:wave2: to Kathy, Beth, LTS -- and everyone else who I just ran out of time to reply to!

Maria :upsidedow

Well, I got out there and got my run in. It was FREEZING! Blew cold breath the whole way. But true to form, I came home a sweaty wringing wet mess, esp my hair so jumped into a hot shower right away. Felt very hungry and wiped out the rest of the afternoon. Ate more than usual but healthy foods and went to bed for several hours this afternoon. Feeling better now. Whole wheat pesto pasta was NOT a hit at dinner. My guys are so picky. I'm glad we have the MC event at school tomorrow night and then I'm going away for the weekend so the guys will have to figure dinner out for a few days. Found out today thanks to Mother Nature's monthly timing, I will not be able to visit the thermal baths at Baden-Baden. It was not totally unexpected but I was hoping. I'll still go on the trip but I'll have several hours on my own or hopefully there will be another woman there in my situation:sad1:

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

This is so sweet. Thanks, Christine.

Happy St Patricks Day!!:shamrock::shamrock::hmghost::shamrock::shamrock:

Hope you all have a happy, healthy, day!!!

Thanks guys - love both of these:love:

Thank you, Shawn for being our coach this week! :flower3: You've done a great job and had some great questions!

Thanks!:goodvibes I've enjoyed it. I hope everyone ends the week strong and has a good WI tomorrow. I think I will be slightly up. I was hoping to show a nice loss on Monday as that always happens after a few hours in the thermal baths but oh well, that's just temporary anyway.

Lisa, I like Hannah and Olivia too. Cute how they are so different. Ex-jock and opera singer! And, would love to hear the 2nd grade story:laughing:

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Would you believe I was actually in Ireland for one St. Pat's Day and they really do not make a big deal about it! I think us Americans just like to have an excuse to look silly and drink :thumbsup2

I think I've heard the same things about Cinco de Mayo ?? Not really celebrated much in Mexico? Not sure if that's true or not.

Your book club sounds awesome, so cool the author came. I jotted down the book for later. I have such a back log of reading right now. That darn Kindle is always tempting me to order another book, magazine or newspaper. I need to set aside an hour a day for awhile to catch up.

I love reality shows and the "non scripted" shows-- that is mostly what I watch

Country guy with deep voice is Scotty !! He lives about 10 miles away from where I'm from. Seems like a great kid. Wait until you see Casey in last night's performance. Sang a Nirvana song ---- VERY CREEPY!!!! Even though you haven't watched the show yet, you describe him perfectly above -- SERIAL KILLER LOOK!!! Notice Pia from the girls, she is incredible. She's already gotten a standing ovation from all 3 judges in an earlier show.
Hope I didn't give you any spoilers:goodvibes

Hope your sub job went well and you found that sticker:laughing:

A Guinness actually sounds delicious :drinking1

OMG, we toured the Guiness plant in November and I hated that beer! All that foam on the top, yuck! I'm such a lightweight, I'd rather have a Corona Light:) The heavy German beers are wasted on me.

Yes, I think DH and I would kill each other if we were on Amazing Race together.

Well.... I loved this question. As you can tell, I could talk all day about organization and planning!! I know some of you mentioned not loving it so much. Wish I could come help you!!

First off... DH is doing GREAT!

Your DS sounds like he will be bigger than mine since mine is almost a year older than yours and they are close to the same size. DS is 84th percentile for weight and would be considered overweight if he weighed 2 more pounds. I've decided he's closer to 5'5 and 135. He has thin top half and washboard abs but he has large backside and thighs, DH has same thing. He looks fine to me but he HATES his large backside and talks about losing that somehow. It's hard for him being around the European body types. Why they have no backside over here I do NOT understand! I emphasize healthy eating and staying active and don't comment beyond that except to say he looks fine to me. DH on the other hand has HORRIBLE eating habits. Right now he's on a huge yogurt kick. I bet he eats around 800 calories a day in yogurt, it's his after meal snack for EVERY meal. I've tried to point out to him the calories, fat and sugar in what he's eating but he insists its healthy. Anyway, DS also has huge feet and hands but he hasn't had a huge spurt like many of his friends, just steady growth. It's not something at all I worry about but according to the BMI and growth charts, he has always been close to overweight. I just want him to develop healthy lifetime habits.

I also  planning, organizing and cleaning. I was looking forward to a juicy discussion of this the other day but oh well:rotfl: There's always you and me, I guess!

So glad to hear DH is doing well! What an amazing recovery!

Yes, I could benefit from meal planning. I use the excuse that I don't get to the store too often w/o a car and the food over here that we like and will eat is so little that I can't do meal planning. Add to that the tiny fridge and the food spoiling very quickly here and it can be a nightmare. Of course I can do better but I just run through my rotation of about 10 different dinners over and over! We NEVER eat out though and I pride myself on that. Well, we do Subway one night a week.

QOTD for Thursday: I don't watch either. After a long pause, I've only now just recalled the last reality show I've watched: The Apprentice (UK). We're more computer-dork type of people.

How do you get that show? I'll have to google it to see who's on there. We get a lot of BBC shows here...

I think, in hindsight I was lucky that I booked it when I did cause with all the h_ll that has broken loose in the middle east lately and oil prices, I'm SURE that the airline prices have spiked.

Yup.... she's in high school and I'm pulling her out for two days.

I just have to comment about the airfare, boy has it gone up:scared1: Esp for International flights.....my friend emailed me to see if $1150 was OK to pay for her flight over here in May. I was shocked as we paid $850 to go home last Summer for the same exact flight. I checked around and everyone said she should probably go ahead and book. I got back to her the next day but by then it was up to $1450. All she would tell me is that she paid around $750 and used points for the rest....

You are lucky to get an excused absence for a trip to DW!! DS is going to Normandy with his BS troop in April and will miss 2 days of school. About 3000 boy scouts will be there, they hold a campout at this historic site once every 3 years, with visits to museums, hiking and lessons at historic battlefields, wreath laying ceremony, etc. School would not grant excused absence. Tempted to call him in sick but think of the BS motto... They also would not excuse him for the 1 day he missed for our Paris trip and I know our activities were much more educational than a day of school. Our school policy warns that if you have more than 5 unexcused absences you MAY not be allowed to advance to the next grade...
I inquired about this as we will have more than that and was told it would be highly unlikely, would depend on his final grades. Talking with other parents I've been told the same thing. I told DS he needs to be PERFECT until the end of the year anyway just in case!

I'm gonna look again today.

I actually had a meeting with the head of student affairs yesterday, and I said you didn't hear this but I'm pulling DS out of school for a few days to run a race in Disney. LOL

Good luck Buffy! Hope your shoulder feels better!

Well, this will probably be my last post as coach for this week - I've enjoyed it ! It really makes me appreciate all those who keep this running. Rose, Dona and all our coaches:cheer2: What a great group of people! And, congrats to all of us who are still sticking with this and reporting in every week!!! Consistency is the key......keep on and on trying until it turns into a habit !!!

Good luck tomorrow Donalds!!
