TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Lisa and Shawn -- I highly recommend the keratin process if you have unruly, thick, curly or kinky hair. It's actually really popular with ladies across ethnic groups who have this issue -- anybody see the Brazilian Blow Out thread on the Budget Board? My hair is smooth, soft, and so much more manageable! It's not damaged, and it's just a pleasure. Definitely worth the 3 days of not sweating!

So, this morning I ended up doing 5M instead of 10 -- ds needed my help with a project, and I couldn't devote 2 hrs to running. Still, I felt pretty good and I'm happy with it.

5 miles is still AWESOME:worship: I'll get there one day.....well atleast I plan to get to 5K.

Nope, my hair is the exact opposite, thin, limp, stringy and greasy if not washed and styled daily. sigh...... I have heard amazing things about the BBO though but I guess it would not do anything for me. I like the Moroccan Oil products but they are pricey.

We love Glee here and Big Bang Theory too.

Have a great day Lassie:laughing: Great story about your background!

Shawnprincess:

Pamela -- I am lovin' that airfare! If I wasn't 5 minutes from Logan...You would be a great at WW -- are you thinking of being a receptionist or a leader? You could do either, and I would want to lose weight for you! ::yes:: Oh, and yes, I am Irish! :shamrock: :rotfl: I don't look it, but my birth mother had red hair and blue eyes, and the name on my initial birth certificate (which the state mistakenly sent to my mom), was Anna Magee. My maiden name starts with an "A", so I always thought that was kind of interesting, A.M. to M.A....Can't judge a book by it's cover. People assume my redheaded, blue-eyed husband is Irish, but he's actually French-Canadian!

I'd love to be a WW leader. I'm not a great public speaker, but I think I could speak well about something I feel passionate about.

I know I had your address at one point, but I can't remember... are you a Southie Irish??

Hair that can be described as "a pleasure" must be GREAT! Glad it was worth the effort.

Never answered this one...I am a calendar and lists kind of girl. I have lists for work, lists for home, lists for church, and my Blackberry is indispensible. I've actually been falling down on my home a lot lately, with focusing so much of my effort on weight loss and not feeling like I have enough energy to keep it up. The best strategy for me is to do a little each day, write everything down, and get that feeling of satisfaction when I cross it off! ;)

I find I've been "falling down" at home a lot lately as well. It seems I just cannot keep all my balls in the air at once. For Janury and February I was doing GREAT with my scrapbooking and house work.... but for March.... well, let's just say the scrapping table is dusty and the house..... But I've stepped up my workouts and been working (for pay) more.... but I just can't seem to get it ALL done.

I LIVE for crossing stuff off my lists!! :lmao:

Well, I got out there and got my run in. It was FREEZING! Blew cold breath the whole way. But true to form, I came home a sweaty wringing wet mess, esp my hair so jumped into a hot shower right away. Felt very hungry and wiped out the rest of the afternoon. Ate more than usual but healthy foods and went to bed for several hours this afternoon. Feeling better now. Whole wheat pesto pasta was NOT a hit at dinner.

I'm proud of you for not giving up when you realized it was FREEZING. I'll bet the shower felt fabulous! Sorry you were so wiped out. Sure you're not coming down with something?? Glad you are feeling better after a nap.

Sorry about the pasta dish. Was it the whole wheat or something else? I had to introduce my family to whole wheat pasta gradually. I started with the higher fiber pastas, moved on to "whole grain", then mixed some whole grain or high fiber with whole wheat and finally, now, we are on to just straight whole wheat.

Your DS sounds like he will be bigger than mine since mine is almost a year older than yours and they are close to the same size. DS is 84th percentile for weight and would be considered overweight if he weighed 2 more pounds. I've decided he's closer to 5'5 and 135. He has thin top half and washboard abs but he has large backside and thighs, DH has same thing. He looks fine to me but he HATES his large backside and talks about losing that somehow. It's hard for him being around the European body types. Why they have no backside over here I do NOT understand! I emphasize healthy eating and staying active and don't comment beyond that except to say he looks fine to me. DH on the other hand has HORRIBLE eating habits. Right now he's on a huge yogurt kick. I bet he eats around 800 calories a day in yogurt, it's his after meal snack for EVERY meal. I've tried to point out to him the calories, fat and sugar in what he's eating but he insists its healthy. Anyway, DS also has huge feet and hands but he hasn't had a huge spurt like many of his friends, just steady growth. It's not something at all I worry about but according to the BMI and growth charts, he has always been close to overweight. I just want him to develop healthy lifetime habits.Shawnprincess:

Your DS sounds just right to me. I know that my DS is definitely at least 5'6" cause he's taller than me!! He doesn't stay as active as I would like (DD is the family athlete) and his eating habits are :scared1: but I try to just continue to lead by example and serve healthy meals. He is just really picky with a strange palate. He'd rather eat broccoli than grapes. He puts pepper on things that no one should eat pepper on. He likes salmon but won't touch an apple. Pllus he's got food allergies that keep him from eating some things that we would think of as "healthy eating basics" like chicken and turkey and nuts and seeds. But that said, he doesn't LIVE for food, like some people do. He is one of those "too lazy" to eat or "forgot to eat" kind of people. Not sure how he got that from two parents who love eating as much as DH and I do!!

I also  planning, organizing and cleaning. I was looking forward to a juicy discussion of this the other day but oh well:rotfl: There's always you and me, I guess!Shawnprincess:

Okay.... I must admit that I don't LOVE cleaning. It is a tolerable means to an end (that end being an organized space). But I LOVE organizing. I'd rather clean out my closet than wash the kitchen floor.

Love to talk more about it later!

So glad to hear DH is doing well! What an amazing recovery!Shawnprincess:

Truly miraculous. I try to remember to give thanks OFTEN for his healing.

I just have to comment about the airfare, boy has it gone up:scared1: Esp for International flights.....my friend emailed me to see if $1150 was OK to pay for her flight over here in May. I was shocked as we paid $850 to go home last Summer for the same exact flight. I checked around and everyone said she should probably go ahead and book. I got back to her the next day but by then it was up to $1450. All she would tell me is that she paid around $750 and used points for the rest....Shawnprincess:

Well... airfare at $1450/pp would definitely be one thing that keeps me from being the world traveler that I would like to be!!

You are lucky to get an excused absence for a trip to DW!! DS is going to Normandy with his BS troop in April and will miss 2 days of school. About 3000 boy scouts will be there, they hold a campout at this historic site once every 3 years, with visits to museums, hiking and lessons at historic battlefields, wreath laying ceremony, etc. School would not grant excused absence. Tempted to call him in sick but think of the BS motto... They also would not excuse him for the 1 day he missed for our Paris trip and I know our activities were much more educational than a day of school. Our school policy warns that if you have more than 5 unexcused absences you MAY not be allowed to advance to the next grade...
I inquired about this as we will have more than that and was told it would be highly unlikely, would depend on his final grades. Talking with other parents I've been told the same thing. I told DS he needs to be PERFECT until the end of the year anyway just in case!
Shawnprincess:

That is too bad that they take such a hard line on it. It is too bad that schools can't give credit for "life experience" like some colleges do now.

I did tell DD that she CANNOT miss any classes between now and then though.... so no spring colds or bronchitis or belly aches... no girly issues, NOTHING! She has only missed two other days this year.... once in October for a cold and once in November for DH's surgery, so hopefully there will be NO issues with this.

Well, this will probably be my last post as coach for this week - I've enjoyed it ! It really makes me appreciate all those who keep this running. Rose, Dona and all our coaches:cheer2: What a great group of people! And, congrats to all of us who are still sticking with this and reporting in every week!!! Consistency is the key......keep on and on trying until it turns into a habit !!!

Good luck tomorrow Donalds!!

Shawnprincess:

Thank you for a great job this week! You have such a great outlook!

Evening friends! Well.... I didn't accomplish nearly as much today as I had planned. Menu plans are only done through mid-May... three loads of laundry washed and dried, but not folded. Downstairs room got power cleaned, but upstairs is untouched. And I've gotta head out to pick up DD at the Y in 30 minutes and I haven't taken my post-workout shower yet. So why am I still here talking to you?? I don't know.;) See you all tomorrow!..........P

A quick Lent hello.:goodvibes

Still in trial, totally exhausted but almost done.

Promise will answer some questions tomorrow.

A little too much ice cream today, but I did resist a whole hog pigout, like I was tempted to engage in to relieve the stress.

Take care - lots of interesting stuff to go through when I get time.

Healthy Habits Week 10 Results

We had 3 participants this week, all of whom are on Team Donald. In honor of being about halfway through the challenge, I promised that there would be 3 prize winners this week.

Congratulations to mikamah, donac, and lovetoscrap!

Please PM me your address and I'll be happy to send you your prize.

Welcome to Healthy Habits!

My name is CC (short for Christina) and I will be your Healthy Habits coach for BL 11. I love the BL challenges and Healthy Habits has helped me significantly in achieving many of my goals.

Some Background Information: Thanks to donac (Dona-hostess of Team Donald) and jenanderson for their amazing help so I know how to coach! I couldn’t do this without seeing them in action previously. I will be continuing the prizes that Jen started.

Here’s How Healthy Habits Works: Each week there will be 3 Healthy Habits (HH) to complete. The first two HHs will always be drinking water and exercising. (Note: The amount and time will increase throughout the challenge!) At the end of each week, you will tally up the number of points you earned for the week and send me a private message with your total. Here’s an example. For Week 1, the 3 HHs are drink Six 8 oz. glasses of water a day, exercise a minimum of 20 minutes per day, and eat at least 3 servings of vegetables a day. If on 4 days you get in all 3 HHs, you would report your points like this:

4/6 days of drinking water
4/6 days of exercising
4/6 days of eating veggies

Your total points (ex: 12/18) AND your team name should be in the subject of your PM.

This is a team competition. On/about Tuesday evening, I will post the week’s results. I will share the number of participants on each team and the top scorers on each team. New for BL 11: I will also list the people who earned 7/7 on one or more of the HHs for the week. If you participated on the team with the most participants, you will be entered into a drawing for the week's prize. Each prize will have something to do with the 3rd Healthy Habit for the week. I will post the winner and ask that you PM me your contact information. (Please Note: If you do not wish to be entered into the drawing, please let me know in your PM. I understand people’s WISHes for privacy.)

Participation in Healthy Habits is entirely optional, but I encourage you to participate and help your team be on top for the week. Good luck on your journey and I hope that HHs helps you as much as it continues to help me!

Welcome to Health Habits Week 12

Week 12 is 3/18-3/24.

This is a back to basics week!

This week's 3 Healthy Habits are:
1) Drink Six 8 oz. glasses of water.
2) Exercise a minimum of 20 minutes a day.
3) Eat at least 2 servings of veggies per day.

At the end of the week, please PM me your points. I will post the results on/about Tuesday. Don't forget, this is a team competition!

Remember, every participant counts, regardless of the number of points you earn!

If you have any questions, please free to ask!

Winding down for the day but wanted to get caught up here so I will be more up to date in the morning when I start coaching. :yay:

I have decided to take my laptop and just post from the bathroom. I have been hitting the water hard to make up for my indiscretions earlier in the week. I don't even know how much I drank yesterday but it was A LOT. I was :boat: I think I peed about 10 times in the first 2 hours after I went to bed and at least once an hour after that! Didn't get much sleep. Couldn't drink much while at school today so I started at 5 when I got home and have had at least 6 glasses since then. I hope if I stop now I can sleep better tonight!

I don't really want to sub tomorrow, I have tons to do at home but they are desperate for people. A whole bunch of teachers are at a conference on the other side of the state so each school has at least 6-8 people out. If they really need someone in the morning for DD's school then I will go in so I may not be able to post a QOTD until I get home. No internet access at the schools.

As I mentioned above, I have done the "reverse journaling" in the past (never heard that term.... but I like it!) and it works so well!!
Probably because I made it up. I have been calling it that for years after I figured out I did much better writing everything out before hand and not after when I am getting started.

We'd just been doing eggs, eggs and more eggs. I was starting to scratch at the dirt when I went outside.
:lmao::rotfl2: I spit my water! :rotfl:

I do wish I could go back to school and get a degree in "planning and organizing"! I think I would really enjoy working with people and helping them get things organized in their lives. I think I'd also love to be a party planner!

In reality, the closest thing I might actually do IRL is go to work for Weight Watchers. I've been throwing the idea around for a while now and I guess I just need to bite the bullet.
Do you need a specialized degree for that? I would think that a passion and life experience would get you started. And you have that! Weight Watchers would also be a great place for you, you have a lot of inspiration to offer. :goodvibes

:wave2: to Kathy, Beth, LTS -- and everyone else who I just ran out of time to reply to!
:wave2:

Found out today thanks to Mother Nature's monthly timing, I will not be able to visit the thermal baths at Baden-Baden. It was not totally unexpected but I was hoping.
Bummer:guilty: Hopefully you can find something else enjoyable to do-- heck even relaxing for a few hours away from home would be nice.

Country guy with deep voice is Scotty !! He lives about 10 miles away from where I'm from. Seems like a great kid. Wait until you see Casey in last night's performance. Sang a Nirvana song ---- VERY CREEPY!!!! Even though you haven't watched the show yet, you describe him perfectly above -- SERIAL KILLER LOOK!!! Notice Pia from the girls, she is incredible. She's already gotten a standing ovation from all 3 judges in an earlier show.
Hope I didn't give you any spoilers:goodvibes
Just watched (but not the results show yet). I like Scotty but that way he tilts his head is a little weird. But I love his facial expressions.

I am so glad someone else thinks Casey is creepy. Everyone seems to just love him. I do think he has a lot of social awkwardness to him but he is just coming off to me as that awkward, shy kind of guy that a girl feels sorry for so she goes out with him and after he gets her alone he becomes a total Psycho and when she rejects his advances he chops her up in little bits. And yes, the "anger" and growling and clenching teeth together last night make it even worse. I really think he is probably a sweet guy and he is a great singer but something is just making the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Pia was very good and I like Lauren --the other country one, which is funny since I am not a country music person.

Well, this will probably be my last post as coach for this week - I've enjoyed it ! It really makes me appreciate all those who keep this running. Rose, Dona and all our coaches:cheer2:
I think this is my cue to step up to the mic! :mic:

Still in trial, totally exhausted but almost done.

A little too much ice cream today, but I did resist a whole hog pigout, like I was tempted to engage in to relieve the stress.
Hang in there. Sounds like you did great staying in control. :)

We had 3 participants this week, all of whom are on Team Donald. In honor of being about halfway through the challenge, I promised that there would be 3 prize winners this week.

Congratulations to mikamah, donac, and lovetoscrap!
:woohoo:
WHERE IS EVERYONE???? Come on Team Donald AND Team Mickey! Send those PM's in and keep working on those Healthy Habits! :cheer2:

I think I had a lot more to say but I am really tired and DH wants to go relax and watch TV so I will see you all tomorrow. Have a great night! :grouphug:

Hey everyone! I've been struggling some. I haven't had any changes on the scale at all guess its better than gaining though. I've been off my 30 Day Shred rotation but my brother got a Wii and I've done some boxing on there and stationary bike for cardio. My eating is all over lately. I'll get it back on track. Spring break is also throwing me way off.

I loaned my car to my best friend because one of their trucks was stolen so I'm kinda stuck at home too much. EEK!!! Trying to get back on track maybe I can get back to staying in touch on here better. Sorry I couldn't help with any more losses yet. :guilty:

I have a new motivation as sometime this summer I'll be taking Zoe to visit the ex. He hasn't seen her in a long time. It will be weird because we'll be staying with him(and his new live in girlfriend and her 2 kids). Strange situation but sure we can all get along.

Good Friday morning Team Donald This is our last week by ourselves. Next Friday we join threads with Team Mickey. Let's make it a good week.

Congrats to Kathy and LTS for turning in HH points last week. This is a new week for the HH points. It is a very basic one

We can all do this so record your points and next Friday I challenge everyone to send in ppoints.

It is about 2 months to the end of the challenge. It is tiime to rededicate ourselves to this journey. I know I have not been as good as I should be so I will be working on getting back on track.

QOTD from yesterday. I do watch BL but don't watch AI. The show II am looking forward to is Top Chef Masters. These are older chef who are just in it for their charities. It is not cut throat like regular Top Chef. They are all kind to each other (except this one guy last year and he did not last long) and it has been fun to watch the last two summers.

Have to go and get ready for school.

Have a happy and healthy day.

The merge is coming! The merge is coming!:goodvibes

What does this mean? Next Friday, March 25th, we will be merging the two Biggest Loser teams. We will begin coaching and reporting results only from the main thread. You are still welcome to chat on your team threads, but the QOTD and results will move to the main thread. I encourage everyone to make the move as well.:goodvibes

Why are we doing this? Initially we decided to do two teams for the spring challenge because it is usually very busy on the weight loss front in January. And boy was it ever! Over 200 people signed up to join the challenge.

Well, things have started to slow down, so to make it easier for everyone who runs the challenges we are merging the threads. I am looking forward to catching up with some old friends and making some new ones! We will only have one BL team over the summer.

So what can you do? I still have a few coaching spots left. If you would like to coach on the merged thread please send me a PM. And as always, let me know if you have any questions.

3/25--3/31 tggrrstarr(Kelli)

Things will be a little busy at first, but be patient. It will slow back down to a manageable level.:goodvibes

sorry to report a 1 pound gain thiws week. I had the munchies and ate everything I coud get my hands on. Back to the basics this week. when does this challenge end?

Good morning Donalds!!

Just a quick post and am heading to work early, but hope that means I'll get out early and be able to enjoy some of the beautiful weather we're getting. Supposed to hit 60 degrees.

Thank you Shawn for coaching last week and all of your fun questions. :flower3:

Welcome LTS as this weeks coach!!:flower3:

A huge thank you to all who keep this running, Rose, Tracey, CC, and Connie, Dona our team hostess. :flower3:

Thanks also to everyone here offering support and advice, and sharing their goods and bads. What a truly inspirational group we have here.

pamela and shawn- I think when your boys go off to college, you should start up your own reality tv show, THE ORGANIZERS, and you can start right here in MA. (I'll pm you my address)You can go into peoples houses, like the nanny and help them get their lives and homes in order.

Wish I had more time to catch up. Good wishes for good numbers on the scale, and warm spring weather to hit everyone and inspire us all to stay on track and make some good healthy changes that will last us a lifetime.

Have a great friday!!:)

Good morning Donalds! Hope you all had a great week!

Thanks, Shawn for coaching last week, and welcome to LTS for this week :)

So, last night I went for a run...and I HATED it! Blegh :scared: I am one of those weird people who prefers to run on a treadmill. I like that I can keep a steady pace, and it tells me how much further I have to go and how long I have been running. Well, yesterday it was beautiful out--50 degrees when I got home from work, so BF convinced me to run outside with him. He is mean and pushes me to run faster and farther than I usually do :upsidedow So last night we ran 3.2 miles (which I know isn't far, but is farther than I usually run) and he made me sprint it out at the end  Of course, afterwards it felt really good to have done it, but at the time I was really hating him  It just goes to show that you can probably do a lot more than you think you can. If I had gone for that run by myself, I would have turned around earlier, slowed down more and stopped earlier. So, while I don't really like running with BF, I know he will make me a better, faster runner and he is pushing me because he loves me

I want to thank all of you for making this a great week for me. For the last 3 or 4 weeks, I had kind of fallen out of some of my good habits. I was still working out and watching my calories, but I was allowing myself a lot of slip-ups :guilty: Since I decided to get back into checking in here, I have done a lot better. And, the scale showed it this morning :woohoo: After 4 weeks of losing just over 1 lb total, this week I posted a 1.8 lb loss  which is a lot closer to what I was losing when I started this whole journey. I know that you all have helped me get back on track so THANKS!

Have a great day Donalds!

beth

Good Morning DONALDS. HOpe this day finds you all well.

Sent my weight in. coming in this week at 229.8 not as much as last week but that's to be expected :)

My DD3 is sick so we haven't been doing a whole lot the last couple of days even though the weather has been BEAUTIFUL. We did for a nice walk around the neighborhood yesterday but that was about all she could handle for the day. tired her out.

Hope you are all doing well.

:wave2: GOOD MORNING!

I will be back in a bit with responses and the QOTD but first I have to share my exciting news. I am posting from a very special place today, a location that I haven't been in a very long time and I can't stop smiling!

This morning I arrived here:

Hey CC! I guess I just want to let you know why I don't participate with the HH. I feel bad that more people haven't been participating, but I guess it just (don't know how to say this right.....) seems too easy. I feel like I should leave the HH to the people who are still new or still trying to get established in a healthier lifestyle. Can you understand this at all?

I will start participating again this week to help my team and to bump up the number of participants, though. okay?? :flower3:

Wouldn't I love that!! Have you ever seen Peter Walsh? He used to be on Clean Sweep (on TLC) and now he has his own show on the OWN network (can't remember the name of it). He is a great organizer and he really gets into the psychology of why people hoard stuff and keep clutter around. I don't care much about psychology, but I do KNOW that hoarding and such is a psychological disorder. I guess I'm more interested in just helping out your typical busy Mom...... kids in all different directions, too much paper coming home, no systems in place to keep things organized... too much work and too little help.

Good Friday morning friends!

Gotta be honest here. I was pretty disappointed with my number on the scale this week. I was SO SURE that the  gain that I had last week was just a hormonal bloating issue.... it certainly WAS NOT because I overate that week or anything... and the timing was right for mid-cycle issues. I was so sure that if I had a SUPER week with my eating and exercise that last week's gain plus some would be gone today.... and it is NOT. Sure, I was down some.... but not nearly as much as I anticipated. I was a bit baffled... but then Aunt Flo arrived.... waaaaay ahead of schedule.... like 12 days ahead of schedule!! Might explain why the loss wasn't bigger, but still really annoyed. I will take one more peek at the scale tomorrow, but I don't expect any big change by then. Tha hardest thing is KNOWING that I ate nearly perfectly this week.... right on target with my points, worked out Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues, Thurs, stayed busy, drannk plenty of water.... so no reason for a bad number.

Getting old is a b__ch!! Plus I have a few symptoms that might indicate that I am having a thyroid issue. Wouldn't be a big surprise, as DMom had thyroid disease. I made an appointment for a full physical next month (if you know me, you know I NEVER go to the doctor!! Just can't be bothered most of the time. Haven't had a physical in years). We'll see what they say about my thyroid levels AND my hormone levels. Maybe I need to be droppping the "peri" from my "menopause" status!!

Anyhow..... on a happier note... the weather here is SUPPOSED to be nice today.... mid-low 60's! But it is SO cloudy and windy right now.... I'll believe it when I see it!

I'm at work now. Got called in at the last minute and it was tempting to say no, but "Money for Disney, Money for DIsney" keeps running through my head! If you wanna play, you gotta pay!!:thumbsup2 So here I am.

Gotta call home now and remind DH not to eat the meatloaf in the fridge for lunch! That is our dinner!

I probably won't get back on here until I get home this evening, so bye-bye for now!.............P

Good morning Donalds! Hope you all had a great week!

Thanks, Shawn for coaching last week, and welcome to LTS for this week
So, last night I went for a run...and I HATED it! Blegh :scared: I am one of those weird people who prefers to run on a treadmill. I like that I can keep a steady pace, and it tells me how much further I have to go and how long I have been running. Well, yesterday it was beautiful out--50 degrees when I got home from work, so BF convinced me to run outside with him. He is mean and pushes me to run faster and farther than I usually do So last night we ran 3.2 miles (which I know isn't far, but is farther than I usually run) and he made me sprint it out at the end  Of course, afterwards it felt really good to have done it, but at the time I was really hating him  It just goes to show that you can probably do a lot more than you think you can.

Have a great day Donalds!

beth

Nice job with the 1.8!!

Hope DD is better soon. Glad you had a loss this week!
