TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Heather my ds2 played the flute all through grammar school and high school.

I can only imagine what 5 engineering books are going to cost me.

I LOVE hearing that a guy plays flute - it is so rarely seen, but is becoming a bit more frequent. And I go get my books tomorrow, so I'm bracing for that shock as well! :scared1:

Oh, and welcome Wendy!

I am already discouraged. I blew the dust off the treadmill that has been used as a place to hang clothing for a couple of years and tried to do my HH of 20 minutes. I could only do 10 and I feel like a failure. I was huffing and puffing after only a few minutes and that was at a slow speed.

:surfweb::scared1:NOOO!!! Don't get discouraged! I completely understand. I spend my days sitting at desks or driving back and forth to another city for classes every day, so I know what it feels like to be woefully out of shape. But Rose is right - just make it fit you. You'll be able to build up in no time. I'm going to be getting a treadmill hopefully this week (maybe next payday) but I know better than to expect myself to be ready so I'm starting out by just walking the dogs everyday. It takes me about 40-45 minutes to do it, but I get in 2 miles everyday.

It was 10 more minutes than you did the day before right? That's a success!!!!! Woohoo!

Amen!

Heather

I started C25K today. Again. It worked years ago with me, so I'm optimistic... Good thing no one fainted at the gym when I showed up after such a long absence:lmao:

:rotfl: Great job! :thumbsup2

For those of you that drink sparkling water - we received a SodaStream for Christmas - you can make your own soda and seltzers. You just carbonate regular tap water and add flavorings to the water.

Thanks for the great tip! :thumbsup2

Hi there Team Donald!
My name is Shannon. I'm married with 2DD's. I work full time, just switched to a new career in accounting last fall and am busy taking courses to get certified. I live in Beautiful British Columbia Canada, and am excited to be going on a cruise this spring to bring the Wonder to Canada and then staying on to go up to Alaska!

:wave2: Hi Shannon! Your girls look so grown up! :goodvibes I can't wait to hear all about your cruise. :flower3:

THanks for the suggestion of flylady. My mom got into it a while back and it really helped her declutter and learn some great, basic housecleaning habits that she still follows years later. I've gone over to the site a few times, but never really done much more. My problem is really motivation. I KNOW what I need to do, I just don't want to do it! I aspire to live in an organized home, but I am laaaaazzzy when it comes to following through and I can ALWAYS think of something else (anything else!) that needs to be done other than cleaning out closets, organizing drawers, putting away laundry, etc. Perhaps, though, this is the time to try it again!

The nice thing about flylady is she shows you how to do things in baby steps. That works for this healthy lifestyle thing, too. :goodvibes

Have a healthy and happy day. Will be back later, after I order ds2's books for next semester. I can only imagine what 5 engineering books are going to cost me.

:scared1: Thanks for coaching this busy first week! :flower3:

Thhey are just babies still, but they will get the hang of it. Rabbits are very clean animals, like cats, and they want to keep their areas nice. Getting them fixed was the most important thing you could do, not just for their health, but also for their litter box habits. Give them a couple more months to mature, and you will be amazed at how well they use the box!

I love the rabbit in your avatar, too!

I am going to take a quick run/walk 30 min/2 miles when ds gets on the bus this am as long as the roads look clear enough. It sounds cold and windy out, but I need to get back into a routine.

:woohoo: for running in the cold and wind! You are INCREDIBLE!

Shannon--so nice to see you posting again! Looks like you all were having a great time on New Year's Eve!

Hi Kathy and Lisa and Shawn!

Dona--I am lurking on your thread.;) I don't have time to read it all, so someone needs to tell me if something important or exciting happens!

:wave2: Hi Rose!

Good morning -- I am new to Team Donald -- my name is Wendy and I live in southern NJ. Am looking forward to getting started!! Off to take my measurements.....:thumbsup2

:welcome: Wendaeh! Don't forget to PM your weight, if you haven't already. :flower3:

I am already discouraged. I blew the dust off the treadmill that has been used as a place to hang clothing for a couple of years and tried to do my HH of 20 minutes. I could only do 10 and I feel like a failure. I was huffing and puffing after only a few minutes and that was at a slow speed.

Can you try 10 minutes again this afternnoon? It is discouraging when you start exercising again after a long break but you will be surprised how quickly you feel better and can do more. You can do it! :cheer2:

Hi all! I think I'm going to like this forum! Hopefully I can check in as much as I need to so that I don't get too behind! :thumbsup2

Just pop in when you can!

One more thing, I need to PM my weight by tonight. Anyone know who the contact is? thanks

It is Tigger813. She has posted on the thread a good bit so she should be pretty easy to find.

Welcome to the challange!

Heather

Thanks for jumping in and helping, Heather! :flower3: Have you considered coaching for a week? It's a lot of fun! :goodvibes

Have a great day all!

Karliebug - don't be frustrated! You made a great first step and that is the hardest!

I went back to the gym yesterday. Today is my first day back to work in 3 weeks. I remember already how much I hate it! Today, I'm going to do a class at the gym with my mom. I'm not sure what yet. I have to check with her on what time she can get there. I will also go for a walk at lunch. Finally, I will work to eat what I've planned and only that!

You can do it! The way I look at it when I have started exercising after a long break is that it is better than what I was doing - which was nothing! Even 10 minutes is better than sitting on the couch - KWIM? We are going to do this together - Go TEAM DONALD!:cheer2:

I was able to get a 35 minute walk on the treadmill yesterday. I am finding that I really need to plan my exercise time and then stick with it. I joined Sparkpeople last week and have noticed that a big amount of my calories come after 9:00 at night, when the kids are in bed and I can finally sit and relax. Does anyone have any suggestions on what they do? Or low-cal snacks?

WOW miss a day and like 6 pages!!!

Ok I will catch up reading today but to answer yesterday:
Question of the Day

What are your hobbies?

Right now de-cluttering my house:thumbsup2

Actual are running(hoping to get back slowly but surely), sports - love my teams here(what's not to love). Music is huge at my house. Travel, anytime I can get away.

I also would like to get back to rollerskating(rollerblading, I use 4 wheels:rotfl2:). And hockey!!! I used to do stick practice with the BF but with my knee all I can do is watch him play.

Anyone who wants a great workout play hockey - holy crap!!!

Good morning TEAM DONALD!

So I am curious about broomball -- can you tell me more? :goodvibes

Sure...broomball is kind of like hockey except you wear special shoes instead of skates, use a ball instead of a puck (looks like a minnie soccer ball) and use a "broom" instead of a hockey stick. (It's not an actual broom but a stick with a wedge shaped rubber end.) The shoes help you get a little more traction than regular shoes, but it still takes some practice to get used to running on the ice.

I am in 2 leagues and both are played on outdoor rinks. Our first game was supposed to be last Thursday, but, after having over a month with below average temps, it got up to nearly 40 degrees and rained all day, so the game was cancelled. Then, I was a little worried about my sunday league cancelling because of the cold. They were predicting -20 windchills, but the wind died down and it got up to a balmy 14 degrees so we got to play :) As predicted, I am pretty sore today...it takes a while for my hips to get used to the sliding/stopping motion I use on the ice, and I have a couple of bruises from taking a few falls, but I am excited that the season is underway! I am planning to go for a run (on the treadmill) after work today, so I'm interested to see how it goes with the sore legs and hips. I'm sure I will loosen up after a few minutes, but the start might be a little rough.

@DONAC, I grew up at Exit 114, lol. But I'm up north now, Exit 153!

(yes, we Jerseyans really do speak in "Exits!")

Here we go -

Have you ever gotten on the scale and said "oh wow, how did that happen?" I did that this weekend (except, I didn't say "oh wow" I was a little bit more creative, but its not appropriate for this board). Anyway, I have tried to lose weight before, succeeded, sort of, and then gained it back. So, I have 20lbs to lose. There, I said it, it is out for everyone to see, now I am stuck!

I am 38 yrs old, I work outside the home and then come home to my two sons (5 and 8) and my DH and work some more.

My goals are to lose weight and workout more consistently and with a little enthusiasm. I really don't like (ok, hate) drinking water, but will suffer through it. I have lurked for a long time on the disboards, but I have never done a group like this before to lose weight, but I am looking forward to it. Thought I might try the measurements as well, because I haven't done that before.

Hey Alison -- welcome! We CAN do it!:woohoo: Go Team Donald!:donald:

dvccruiser - My BF is in Salem, MA so I am NS all the time! I would love a MA/NH meet.

I live in Marshfield - yeah internet dating strikes again:cool1::rotfl2::thumbsup2

Karliebug Please do not get discouraged. When I started I was 347 lbs, and could only do 5 or 6 minutes at like a 1.0. A year later I was running at a 11 min pace - YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I am now back at square 1, well not weight wise, but slow & steady on the TM.

I am already discouraged. I blew the dust off the treadmill that has been used as a place to hang clothing for a couple of years and tried to do my HH of 20 minutes. I could only do 10 and I feel like a failure. I was huffing and puffing after only a few minutes and that was at a slow speed.

But you DID 10!!! :cool1: That's the important thing. Start of slowly and work your way up!

I made myself get on my treadmill yesterday -- it was the only thing that would have kept me from meeting the HH for the day. Once I got on, it was easier to keep going. Hope I can say the same thing tonight. :)

Not a lot of time to post right now, so this will be quick....

Sounds like a nice day. Are you heading back to germany on thursday? I bet your time here just seems to fly by. Have a nice lunch, and I agree with a little fruit before you go, so you're not starving.

Yes, we leave on Thursday!! You will hear me kicking and screaming all up and down the East Coast and across the Atlantic probably! I don't want to leave!

I’m Kim and this is my second BL challenge. I am 45 and live in the Maryland suburbs of DC. My weight loss journey started with WW last Spring to lose for a Disney Mediterranean Cruise. That’s where I met Shawn and what led me to the BL Challenge in the Fall. I’ve lost 25 pounds since April 2010. I want to lose another 25 and that’s my goal for this challenge.:thumbsup2
Hi Kim! You are doing so well! It's wonderful that you are loving the gym so much!

Checking in for the start of the challenge. I worked yesterday when I was supposed to have off. Wish i hadn't, but its done done now. Working tomorrow before having the day off on Tues.
Good luck to everybody. I KNOW we'll do great:thumbsup2

Maureen, I know you are glad the Holiday season is over!!! Good luck on your job search!

50 is the new 30, right Shawn? ;) Good reminder not to worry if we have a day or two off track -- it's the getting back on track that will get us there. I can't believe that you leave so soon! :flower3:

Yes it is !!!

I'm a mid-40's mostly SAHM for the past 15 years (substitute teaching for the past 6 years). Married to my funny-man DH for almost 19 years, Mom to DD (15 1/2) and DS (nearly 13). Lost almost 90 pounds over the course of a few years, but never quite hit my "magic" number, so am trying to be content at another slightly higher number.

Hi Pamela! Hope DH is doing well!

Hi Shannon! Love your family picture! Back to back cruises - I'm jealous!

Hi Rose! I need to pop over to Team Mickey and catch up there too!

I am already discouraged. I blew the dust off the treadmill that has been used as a place to hang clothing for a couple of years and tried to do my HH of 20 minutes. I could only do 10 and I feel like a failure. I was huffing and puffing after only a few minutes and that was at a slow speed.

Don't give up!!! When I first got my elliptical I could only do 20 minutes and it just about KILLED me! Hang in there and you will build up your strength and surprise yourself. Don't quit!!! Do you listen to music while you do it? That really motivates me

noticed that a big amount of my calories come after 9:00 at night, when the kids are in bed and I can finally sit and relax. Does anyone have any suggestions on what they do? Or low-cal snacks?

Can you do some needlework or something to occupy your hands? How about chewing gum? The new dessert flavors are really good I think. Get the whole family involved - "you guys say something if you see Mommy eating after dinner" or you have to do something silly if they catch you eating. What you are really trying to do is break the habit and they say it takes (x) amount of days to break a habit. Do something extreme to remind yourself the first week or so and you will slowly get used to it....lock the kitchen door, go to bed at 8:00, anything to get through the first few days.

Have a great day Team Donald!

Shawnprincess:

Today is going well. I wasn't too hungry so breakfast is a green smoothie(I buy it at the store, Bolthouse is the brand, but wish I had a strong enough blender for making them at home) and 1/2 cup of fresh blueberries. I bought two 6oz containers. DD ate one whole one the other night and I told her she had to share this one. :lmao: I gave her the rest but will get more at store today while they are still on sale. Better that than the cinnamon gummie bears I let her pick out at the farmer's market. She can't get enough blueberries she loves them.

Already started on my water too. When I get this food settled and a tad more hydrated I'll start up Jillian's 30 Day Shred and get my exercise in. :cool1: Zoe is home today her school starts back tomorrow. So i get my coach for one more morning. She loves to make sure I stay hydrated and get right back in if I need a break. Its cute. She'll jump in with me for awhile then run back off to play.

Heather,
I totally know what you mean about the number. I had always said somebody needs to get real with me if it hits 300. So I guess I'm the one for the job. I know I'm retaining and bloated. I have a feeling my not so monthly AF is on the way. I know my water consumption was down for a week almost. I shouldn't retain as my BP pill is supposed to flush it out since it contains a water pill ingredient.
Oh and I gotta know how that Epic Mickey is? What exactly is it like? I meant to look up videos on youtube to see what its all about since it sounds interesting. I really wanna get a Wii this year. I'm still on my old school Gamecube.

snarlingcoyote,
How fun to dig. I think that would be so fun. My grandfather was into geneology and had it tracked back quite a ways. Its just so much info he had a room full of boxes of papers and logs he was keeping. It was a lot for my grandma to deal with when he passed. She has help from a family member her has been inputting a lot of it in the computer and is trying to keep up with all the family he had tracked down.

Maureen,
Good luck to you as well. Glad to have a few familiar faces(names) on the team. :goodvibes

Bernie,
I have filled out my app to volunteer with something similar here. They also allow kids to volunteer with parent. So my dd really wants to help the bunnies too. I need to find the dates on the orientation to get started but I think it will be lots of fun.

HappyMom2,
Try youtube for tutorials on crocheting. That is how I learned. My former boss when I worked at a kids shelter years ago wanted to learn. We had a slow day not many kids so we looked up how to start. One of the teens that was in was helping us. She was really good after her aunt or grandma or someone had taught her. I got down to hat making when I watched a video of a 10 year old boy making one. I figure if he could I could as well. :confused3

Setzkitten,
So sorry he just up and left. How horrible. I like your sense of humor as well. It is good to keep that in tough times as it reduced stress levels, i think, so less cortisol is always good.

Shannon,
Hi there. Cute family pic. Sounds like a great tradition.

ask,
I hear that too on the sleep. In Master Your Metabolism Jillian tells why the sleep thing is true. Something about the only time we release growth hormone which helps regulate hormones. Just from memory I had to take the book back to the library. I thought about buying it when I had some gift cards but got workout dvds and weights instead.

karliebug,
Keep at it. It does take time to build up some edurance if you haven't been exercising in awhile. I know when I tried out my new Jillian dvds it was tough because I haven't worked out in awhile. But when I'd do my Walk Away the Pounds it was the same way. I'd start with saying okay 15 minutes to that 1st mile and I can stop and cool down on my own. Just get myself to do it. Before long I'd do the whole 45 minutes. The first 15 always seems the hardest even when I can go longer I just seem to get a second wind after that time and find I can go on.

Thanks for the comments/compliments on the scarf/hat. :) I ran out of that yarn but it was cute colors for her. We don't use hats or scarves here really but she does like the hats she has always liked hats.

Alright I gotta a couple things to do then off for my date with Jillian. :yay:

Good Morning! DH stole my Protein shake! He wanted to try a little and I made it and gave him a taste and he asked if he could have it. So I passed it on and made another one.

PSA for today: When making these in a Shaker Cup, make double sure you actually have the lid on tight. I will be mopping the floor later, after I change my shirt. . .

It is actually almost noon here but we had a bad night so just got up a bit ago. Murphy's Law: The day you realize your washing machine may have a leak so you can't use it is the the same one that will have a child throwing up at 2am. School started back today but she is home on the couch sipping ginger ale.

DH is off work until tomorrow and we had grand plans to go to the grocery store together and look for healthy foods and what we need for the menu I made. Yep, we are so lame that grocery shopping together is like a huge date! Obviously that won't happen this morning, but we may go later when my older DD gets home from school since she can stay with her sister as long as she is feeling okay. Of course I am pretty sure at this point that my weight loss may get a huge jump start later this week when whatever bug she has hits me since I slept with her last night. :headache:

I am already discouraged. I blew the dust off the treadmill that has been used as a place to hang clothing for a couple of years and tried to do my HH of 20 minutes. I could only do 10 and I feel like a failure. I was huffing and puffing after only a few minutes and that was at a slow speed.

Rose&Mike said all that I was going to. You CAN do it. 20 minutes doesn't have to be all at one time. Try for 5 or 10 minutes later on today. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Today you took 10 minutes worth of those steps so you are that much closer to your goal. :woohoo:

oh boy just got done with Jillian's 30 day shred. My legs are jello. I have some weird twinges/pains under my right rib cage I could do the bicycle crunches at the end without shooting pains. I know its not my gallbladder because that was removed last March. Maybe something is filling in the spot and not comfortable there.

LTS, So funny about dh stealing your shake. At least you could make another. Those tummy bugs will help the weight drop. I know when I caught the tummy bug that was going around I dropped quick but didn't stay there. Zoe followed me so I had it first then her.

THANK YOU! That is great to hear!

BTW, I PMed you before I got a chance to read your response here...you pretty much answered my question! Thanks!

I promise I'm not crashing your party over here!

If you haven't PMed me your weight, please do so by 7:30pm tonight! I'm going to be inserting all of the weights into the spreadsheet tonight and tomorrow night and post some statistics when I'm all done with that.

TTFN :tigger: (your weightkeeper)

2010 was a difficult year for me. My last surro baby died 1 day after his due date, and was stillborn the following day. My Intended Parents were really awful about the whole thing and it was the most traumatic event of my life. I'm still neck deep in the grieving process and losing weight will help me find the 'me' I think I've lost.

Tau -- I'm so sorry for your loss, I can't even imagine the year you have just been through. I hope 2011 is very healing for you and your family, and you reach all your goals!

Question of the DayWhat are your hobbies?

I am an avid reader, a sci fi fan, and I guess I can call myself a runner. In a good week I will run 5 times, for about 24 miles total. I love to watch Patriots football games, and I like to second-guess my husband when he decides who he's going to play for fantasy football ;)

So sorry about worfiedoodles, Maria. It's so hard to lose a member of our family.
Thanks, Kathy -- I guess I'm about to have a new hobby -- once we get settled after WDW we're going to get 2 kittens. :cat:

Good luck running the Donald! You are going to rock it! :rockband:

Thank you so much! I am really looking forward to it. It's going to be warmer and more comfortable than last year, and I'm feeling healthy and optimistic!

Hey.... I want "in" if you have a MA meet!!

Maria.... so sorry about your kitty!! (I already knew this, didn't I??) But still sorry.

Best of:hug: luck at the Donald!! Represent your BL group and ROCK THAT RACE!!

How could we not include the NH folk? You guys are awesome! I like you so much I married one! :rotfl: I hadn't really mentioned Worf's passing before, so I don't think you did know...just processing first. I am looking forward to "representing" at the Donald, I'll have my lime green WISH shirt on, hopefully this year it will be warm enough people will be able to see it -- i.e. it won't be covered in other layers! :goodvibes

Thank you to everyone for your kind words about Worf, and all the encouragement for the WDW Half! This group is the best! :grouphug:

Maria :upsidedow
