Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Hi Team!!

I know I don't generally get over to this thread much, mostly due to lack of time left in my day. For those who caught my post on the other team thread, I was in an auto accident last week (hit from behind while stopped) and am currently unable to train--well technically not unable any more, as I have been cleared to use a recombant bike (spelling?) ....the kind with the pedals in front, light core work, and light swimming. I still have the back pain, but the doctor said today that it does not appear that I have any spinal damage. I have a return appointment on July 17, if the pain has cleared by then I will likely get the green light to return to normal training. As much as I may not like it, I will follow the doctor's advice, especially since I have a November marathon to be ready for (San Antonio Rock n Roll).

As for the car, it will be in the shop for a while. I do have a rental until the repair is complete (same model, make and year as my own!), and the other guy's insurance officially accepted liability for the accident today.

Thanks for all the well wishes out there!!

Jen--Welcome to the team...Don't worry about the use of the term run not necessarily implying speed, you likely fit in better than you know just by making that comment!! I just hope you were not meant to be my replacement. ;)

:welcome: Jen!

Maria...which ASICs clouds do you have? I rotate between Cumulus and Nimbus (hence my tag ;) ).
Songs to make me move (there's lots):
La Vida Loca
Aint No Other Man Christina Aguilera
Dancin with Myself Billy Idol
Pon De Replay Rihanna
There's one by Shakira I can't remember...I think it was her first one?

Debra...I've read a few Laurell Hamilton Anita Blake books. I think I liked Anne Rice better, but I do like the Janet Evanovich style heroine. Seems to be the new model of the chick protagonist these days.

Jen117...hope you're doing okay :grouphug:

Shell...hope the knee is progressing.

Speaking of knees, hope yours is doing well also, Robert.

Christa...how ya been?

Richard...how you doin?

Denny...are ya out there?

I'm still working on C25K. Did W5/R8 for 3 miles today. I'm still having back problems but they seem more related to sitting than running. Guess I need a new job that involves more running and less sitting ;)

Hi guys, one more player coming on board. Please welcome Kayci, FatElvis. I love that name.

Recruiter Panda:hippie:

We are taking our 1st trip to DL to run the 1/2 this year and I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I'd love to be able to jog the whole thing (the word run implies too much speed). So far I can do 7 miles without a walk break, but Aug is coming up fast.... I would love some WISH teammates to cheer me on.

Linda and I will be doing the DL 1/2 and 5K so we might get a chance to hook up:)

Ahhhhhh.... another 36 year old JEN! How will be keep us apart????? Anyhoo, nope, nothing this week but things are looking better. Gave my mom the "don't give up" lecture and hopefully it will sink in. I am going camping this weekend and if the rain stays away I am going to run the campground on Saturday morning. This is one of my favorite things to do when camping. I get to see EVERYTHING. Nasty guys with hangovers, people trying to make a fire to cook breakfast, redneck women yelling... it's great. And I get the looks because they think I am a freak for running when I supposed to be drinking!!! So let's hope the rain predictions are wrong and I really do get to run! My body so needs it after my HUGE lapse.

Jen - WELCOME... from one Jen to another.

Maria - Do you buy all these books or use the library??? I have picked up several new books at the Dollar Store that I want to tackle. I am not sure if they were at the $ Store because they are skunky books, or just have been out there too long??? Oh and I am an Asics Nimbus girl.

My MP3 player is filled with the weirdest stuff. I listen to Disco to Pop to Rock... anything with a beat and fun sound works for me!

Another new member here! I've been assured that THIS is the fun team - perfect! ;)

I'm Kayci, I'm 37 and live in Kansas City. I've been a runner off & on most of my life. I was a sprinter/hurdler in high school, then started doing the occasional 5K in college. I ran 2 marathons years ago through Team in Training - Disney and Rock & Roll San Diego. I loved doing them, although the training was much easier back then, pre-kids. Since then I've done several half marathons, although I feel like I start from scratch each time. I have 3 girls and it seems like it takes me a long time to get back on track after each one.

So, my latest running life started at the beginning of the year. My youngest had just turned 1 (she's 19 months now), so "baby weight" was no longer a valid excuse. My blood pressure was creeping up and my doctor was not thrilled. He put me on some medication and strongly suggested I lose some weight and make some changes. I started running again - luckily I bounce back quickly when I do start back, so I was up to 3 miles within a few weeks. I've lost about 25 pounds so far and I ran a half marathon a few weeks ago. (Hospital Hill in KC - it's tough! Very hilly and it was 82 degrees when it started - ick). I'm excited to stay at this level (or close to it anyway). But I do need some motivation - need to sign up for some races. I don't think a full marathon is in the plans anytime soon - I just can't do that kind of training right now.

There are a few halfs (halves?) in the fall I'm considering, plus I can usually find a 5 or 10k around here most weekends all summer. I'm going back & forth on the Princess race - it'd be fun, but I don't think I want to take the whole family down there then. But egads, how do I tell 3 girls (who adore princesses) that Mom's heading to Disney World, have fun with Dad, maybe he'll take you to Walmart or, if you're really good, Bass Pro Shop? Nuh-uh. Hmmm, gotta think on this one some more.

Well, there's my introduction. I'm off to read back in this thread and get to know you all better!

Oh, I saw some of you talking about your ipod playlists. I feel really old occasionally, when listening to mine. I'm 99% certain no one else I see running is listening to "The Battle of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton, Ice Ice Baby, Rock Me Amadeus, or anything by Dottie West and the Beastie Boys. OLD, I tell ya!

Hello Kayci!! Let me be the first to say there is nothing wrong with Rock Me Amadeus--- quality music. I happen to like the Eurythimcs "Sweet Dreams". Some of my other songs are even more obscure. My DH and I like to play Dance Dance Revolution (who says you need to grow up???) and those songs have a great beat, although are admittedly weak on actual lyrics. :cool1:

I'm happy to be JenB if it makes keeping track of the Jens any easier. I'm used to being one of the many Jens-- 3 out of the 10 in my residency class were Jen and it got a bit confusing, often all 3 of us would turn and answer a question.

Jen - My college roommate was a Jen and also my best friend was Jen. Tell me about confusing!!!! So then I swore my kids would not be popular names... my oldest is Emma... and now that is super popular. I say they all copied me and I started the trend!!!!

Hello cousins!

Debra - Are you all settled in to the new place? How's your running going? I know that you have the young'uns hitting on you, but even though I'm now a cougar, I don't need to worry about any "young and curious" boys approaching me. I think that the drool stains on my shoulder and the pacifier sticking out of my back pocket are probably turn-offs. :rotfl: And yes, I do plan on reading a lot of books on my kid-free weekend. It'll be the only time all summer where I'll be able to read for more than 5 minutes without any interruptions. I can't wait!

Jen B - :welcome: DH & I are Disney DVC members and our kids are Disney addicts as well! Good luck with the DL 1/2. It sounds like you're doing great with your running. I'm also new to running and I plan to run the WDW marathon on January. I've yet to run any races, but I plan to run a local 1/2 in October. Keep up your great work!!! :cool1:

Maria
- I'm so glad you're back. I've missed your posts and all your random references to the past (Molly Ringwald, Wang Chung, etc) - they always crack me up! Sorry to hear work is so busy. I don't know if I'll get any running in this weekend as we have a lot of other stuff going on. Good luck if you get out there and try to stay dry! :goodvibes

Kayci - :welcome: It sounds like you're off to a great start! I also starting running this year. My youngest turned 1 in October and I also realized I couldn't blame my weight on just having a baby since my baby was 1. :lmao: Congrats on the weight loss and the 1/2 marathon! :thumbsup2

Hello to Jeanne, Nancy, Mel, Shell, Jen, and the rest of my cousins too!

As for me, I have only run once this week. We took the older two kids to NYC for an overnight trip Sun-Mon. On Sat night, I had everything packed, the baby's schedule written down (he was staying with my parents), house cleaned, and was ready to go to bed early since we had a 6:55 AM train to catch. So, baby wakes up at 9:30 PM Sat night, screaming. Long story short, I ended up at the ER with him until 1:30 AM! It turns out he had an ear infection. I got 3 hrs of sleep and we were able to go to NYC as planned, but I'm still exhausted. I haven't been able to catch up on my sleep yet. I did finally run today, so at least I'm trying to get back into it. We have a busy weekend though, so I might not make it out this weekend either.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm off to take DS to karate.

First off....

WELCOME, JAYCI! :welcome:
Glad to have another Ohana cousin! Just jump right in. If I may suggest this, you might want to read the first page of this and the "Ohana:Post your miles" thread to learn how the challenge works. Then if you have any questions, just give a shout. By the way, we own DVC also (OKW). And so do Nancy (padisneyfan) and Denny (Dennyha). Anyone else?

Jen-NJ: I know I welcomed you on the miles thread, but just wanted to do it here also........
WELCOME, JEN! :welcome:

Richard: hope you are feeling better with each passing day. i'm glad the insurance came through for you.

Debra: How ya doing, hon......is the funk getting a little better? We can't have our bestest cheerleader feeling down. I'm off to your old neck of the woods next week......what was the name and approximate location of that great ice-cream place in Royal Oak? Oh, and about "The Great Gatsby"....I didn't like it as a teenager, but thought my maturity would give me new insight. Well, it shows you how mature I am because I still didn't like it. I really don't like fiction that does not have a well-defined plot. It was like a snapshot of an era gone-by. A vivid one, yes, but I still did not think it was the great American novel that people make it out to be. So I guess I would fail your English class, huh? :(

Jen-WI: You have so much on your plate right now. Here's a great big
I do love your description of running through the campsite. Sounds like some of my NC neighbors!

Mel: I just got my first pair of Asics Nimbus.......can't wait to try them out! I ordered them from Running Warehouse in my usual training size (which is .5 larger than my normal size) When I went to put them on, I felt like Cinderella's step sister! They were really snug. I sent them back at their expense and received the larger ones today. These fit much better. They are still a tad snugger than my Mizunos, but i think it's because of all the cushioning. They feel like my feet are enveloped in pillows! Gotta love that Running Warehouse....they make returns so easy!

Nancy: Welcome back! We missed you. Congrats on being so disciplined and getting the exercise in. Sorry you never made it to WDW.

Christa: Welcome back to you also! Any good Disney stories for us? Which meal plan did you have? Any good dining recommendations?

Robert/Linda: glad to see you're finally getting some training in.

Julie: so sorry about your little one's ear infection. I hope he's feeling better now. ERs are such lovely places, are they not? :( How was NYC? (my hometown!) Anything fun to report?

Johanna: congrats on completing C25K! :woohoo:  :woohoo:

Maria, Shell: w'assup, cousins!

I heard from Kelley(kelnottat)......she has to drop out due to big time LTO. I told her the door will always be open if she ever changes her mind. :worried:

I also heard from Curiouser......there's been some illness in the family but everything is fine now and she will begin posting again soon. :thumbsup2

Still no word from vscohen and littlemissmickey.....:confused3 :confused3

Hi all:

Jen, welcome :welcome: to the WISH! I am a newbie myself, no jogging quite as much as you, but I am getting there. Looking forward to getting to know you!

Marie, Bad Medicine is a great song! I may have to go download it. I'm not really into a lot of the newer music, but I LOVE the new song by Coldplay, Viva la Vida.

Jeanneg, that song always make me think of that eighties movie, Mannequinn...

Richard, I am so sorry to hear about your accident last week. I had missed that. I hope you are doing much better!

Kayci, Welcome! :welcome: Its nice to have all these new faces.

As for myself, I am doing pretty good. As I said, I completed C25K. I also came to the realization that I am not going to get much faster if I don't lose weight. So, I have been on the WW wagon pretty good for the last few days. Found a cookbook I really like, Hungry Girl. It rocks in that it make a lot of my favorite, unhealthy snacks pretty good for you. I am in love with the baked onion rings, and I am trying out the jalepeno swappers later tonight. So that is going well. I discovered I love to run in the morning...unfortunately, rarely can I do that. DH goes to work early (think 4am) and I can't leave the kidlets alone, so, I am dealing with the evening.

We are leaving for our camp next week, and my biggest worry right now is how to run there. I am going to have to go to FavoriteRun.com and try to work it out...

Ooooh, it's been a busy, busy thread! :cool1:

Jen: Awww, the story about your DH giving you the :thumbsup2 was so cute. Running IS the way to find your happy place, you know. And if I tell you that, maybe I'll believe it about me, too. I just need an emotional GPS, you know? But if we keep moving, I think we'll both find our places.

I'm glad you get to go camping and enjoy all the sights. So tell me, is camping like seeing how the "other half" lives for you or is it more like a homecoming? (Homecoming, in my case.)

Johanna: 6 p.m. race, Maine, mid-July. Oh, I'm sure it'll be cool and crisp. :rolleyes1 It's in Maine, after all. And if it's not, why, then you have incentive to move even faster so that you can finish!! :rotfl: Plus, you know, you graduated C25K, so this is like your processional. Sort of fits right along with you becoming a DIS veteran! (I'm a permanent Mouseketeer, I think.)

I won't tell you how much I love some of the foods you mentioned, because I know you're on the WW wagon. I will look into the Hungry Girl cookbook, too. And know you're always welcome on the Lean Meaner thread.

Nancy: Beth tells us that you didn't get to visit WDW? Boo. But you did get exercise in, which surprised no one here. You are so consistent. :worship:

Robert: If anyone can go through your injury/surgery and complete PT in time to be ready for the DL, it's you! They have the technology, you have the willpower, and I think of you as the million-dollar RW. Now, c'mon, give me that Steve Austin smile!

Mel: It sounds like your C25K is going well--feeling up to the 20 minutes? I'm still stuck on W3 as I try to build speed--it's not coming easy to me, at least with the breathing.

I've not read Evanovich yet--can you believe it? Anita Blake reminds me a bit of Sara Paretsky's V.I. Warshawski, though, in her concern with working out and clothing. (But without the interest in socio-political commentary.) I cut my teeth on hard-boiled novels by Marlowe, Chandler, and Hammett, so that's my background. The fantasy angle is new to me; I was just interested in reading a NYT best-selling author whose books were a hybrid of fantasy/detective. We'll see how it goes--you know I tend to devour several of a series and then move on.

JenB: Can I call you Jen B? Welcome to the family!!! :welcome: So the podcasts provide info on the January races? Cool, now I need to listen to them!! I saw that very same Nova special and found it fascinating--although I wish they would have followed some of the participants' journeys more closely. (Like the guy who bonked during a LR because of fueling issues.) I'm so impressed that you and DH just jumped right in to the Minnie. Good for you!! And then on to DL and the 1/2!

Don't worry about speed and walk breaks. You'll find we run the gamut here--or should I say run, walk, and run/walk the gamut here. And you'll get plenty of advice and support--we're a friendly bunch here on Ohana (chatty, too). Then again, so is all of WISH. I think it brings out the best in all of us, not just as athletes but as people. :goodvibes I know Robert and Linda are in for the DL 1/2, as are people on the weekly WISH thread (Jeff and Tracey come to mind).

Maria: We've been missing you. August can't come quickly enough, IMO. I don't think you need any excuse for a new pair of running shoes. All the better to run with and track down those young gazelles. (New heels, though. Nope, can't justify them. Ouch.)

As for your reading and writing...my dear, you ARE coherent, cogent, insightful, eloquent, and just plain funny! Hello, Miss Remiss who's missing.
I stand by all my statements, including a desire for a WISH book club of which you are a part. Your lists of books always inspire me. Maybe not always to read the exact titles, but to read widely and wildly. (As I advise my students.)

I read the entire post--my iPod suggestions are coming up--and I'll take the ComicCon tickets. Because I already have your love, right? I swear, I'm going to get out there someday. (Some friends are going for their wedding anniversary--and I'm jealous!)

Jeanne: I'm always amazed at how many of Jefferson Starship songs I know. (Sorry, didn't know Airplane until I was familiar with Starship--although I did want to be Grace Slick for a while). I would love to own DVC. DOOD and I talk about it casually from time to time, but now's not the time for us. House first, kwim?

What, you didn't love The Great Gatsby? :confused3 :rotfl2: You wouldn't fail, but you'd probably hate the class! No, you're right--it's not everyone's cup of tea, especially if you like a more plot-oriented book. But as a character study of an American type. And the last lines..... Wow. I usually have students look at The Great Gatsby alongside Citizen Kane as two innovative works of the 20th century. Most will (grudgingly) admit I have a point. That's the best I can hope for, most days.

The ice-cream place in Royal Oak you're looking for is Ray's Ice Cream. Now, the location won't seem as picturesque as much of Royal Oak, but it's an institution. Go there, hang out for a while, and you'll see the gamut of locals: baseball teams, couples in love, bikers, families.... And the ice-cream ain't bad, either! :thumbsup2 Let me know if you want suggestions on other eats in the area, although I know you have a tour guide who will want to impress you! (Hint: Blue Nile Ethiopian in fashionable Ferndale...yummy.)

Richard: I'm so glad to hear you don't appear to have spinal damage. Still, that back pain is troublesome. So, are you working out (lightly) or is the pain too much. I'm sure you are, but am really glad you're following the doctor's orders. It'll be better in the long run, I'm sure. Boo on the car still being in the shop--I suppose it's a small consolation that your replacement car is the same as yours, though. Still, your car was new, wasn't it?

Kayci: Welcome! :welcome: I'm delighted that you actually considered whether to use halfs or halves in your post. Whatever the proper usage is--I go with halfs--I hope you find some ones that interest you. Not to tempt you to leave your 3 girls to the fun of Walmart, but the Princess 1/2 is an inaugural event. You could test out the waters for future family vacations that include the race?? Oh, I see you have TnT experience--good, we can pick your brains about that. Wow, you really sound like you adapt well--3 miles in a short period and all the weight lost. Me, my body hangs on to its poundage and loves inertia. I think it thinks it's in permanent hibernation.

As for your being old because of your iPod list. Hah! I'm having none of that, young lady. I don't have the Beastie Boys on my iPod, but I do have Public Enemy, Blondie, The Clash, and The Circle Jerks. I also listen to Motown, and I know Jen and I have Elvis on our lists, so I do groove to oldies. Plus, I just turned 40 years young and am proud of my rejuvenile status! (Look that one up, pop-culture freaks!)

Julie: Scary and exhausting story with DS, the ER, and an ear infection. I hope he's feeling better, that the family is back on schedule, and that you can squeeze some "you" time into your weekend. You deserve it!

As for the cougar tales--hah!--the boys here don't know what to make of me half the time. One of the boys at the local movie theater no longer believes I have a DH. He's never seen DOOD (because DOOD is gone), I don't wear my wedding rings, and I have been known to wear a t-shirt that says "Chick Magnet." (Have the young 'uns never heard of postmodern irony?) I wouldn't discount your ability to attract boys with the mommy look--in fact, it might increase the attraction. :confused3 :rotfl2: Ewwww. Be sure to dial down that sensuality, at least until you're on your kid-free vacation. So, what's the reading material of choice? I hope it's adult-oriented. (You can't see me, but I'm waggling my eyebrows.)

As for me: I'm settled in, at least as much as living here means I'm setting in so many ways! :lmao: I'm sure DOOD will want to rearrange lots of things once he gets back. That's fine by mean, so long as I'm not the one moving the furniture--again. I've already earned my XT for those things. I'm ready to play with my free time this summer!

I'm still kind of funky (mood, hopefully not smell), but working my way through it. Part of the reason, I believe, is that I'm trying to work on speed before training for the marathon commences. Why? You know, I ask myself that question a lot. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

As for my iPod, I just added "Do the Funky Penguin" by Rufus Thomas to my list. And "Timebomb" by Beck. And in what might come across as incredibly narcissistic, my classic iPod (not the one I run with) has several covers titled "Debra." Sometimes it's nice to hear my name and to be spoken about lovingly. I thought of that because I have Beck's "Debra."

But I also have "Debra" by The Voltaires, which includes these lyrics:

I can see the passion in your face
It will be a lucky man who feels your warm embrace

So let it out and let me in
The way you did one night, my friend
'Cause I can feel the crosswinds in your heart
So don't be afraid, don't be afraid, don't be afraid

'Cause you're beautiful today, Debra.

Hey, somebody should call me beautiful, right? I admit, it's all about the affirmation for me. And I think all of you should have at least one song that includes your name in it. Because you're all beautiful (even Robert, Richard, and Denny)!

Debra - You are right, my car was pretty new. A 2007 model that I made payment #3 on the day after the wreck. I am taking it easy and will try to work out on the bike at the gym tomorrow, plus get a massage later in the afternoon to try to help in working out the kinks in my back. I suppose I can call that "therapy". Saturday, I will go out and root on my running club, I'm still bummed that I'll miss out on around a month of marathon training for November marathon....
Thanks to all who shared their well wishes with me! I am feeling more like I'll get past this in a few weeks.

Oh, sure, Debra gets a song about being beautiful, and I get "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" Ok, who else has their own song?!

I'm hoping for a nice, long post this afternoon. I'm walking to and from the T today, so I get my 4 miles in without going near a TM! I'd better get going before it gets warm...

Everybody have a great day!
Maria

This is the first time that I have had time to post since getting back from the conference. No WDW as there just wasn't time, but I could see DTD from our balcony at the Marriot World Center. The only time we left the hotel was to go to City Walk at Universal where our entire group was bused to for the 40th Anniversary of WOCN nursing. We had a private party from 7pm-10pm. My family still doesn't believe me that I did not find time to go over to WDW.

Welcome to Jen B and Kayci. :welcome:

Mel--- Did you read Janet Evanovich new Stephanie Plum book yet? I wanted to buy it before I left for the conference, but didn't have time and refused to pay full price at the airport. It is on my list to buy this weekend.

Robert-- Looks like you are making good progress to get to your goal of the DL 1/2 marathon. Looking forward to seeing you in Oct.

Johanna--Congratulations on completing C25K. I so need to walk back through the door of WW. CreativeBeth got me a great WW cookbook for Christmas one year and I use alot of those receipes.

Richard--Sorry to read about your car accident. Glad that you are doing ok.

Maria-- Nice to see you posting again.

Julie---Hope your baby's ear infection is getting better. Surviving a trip to the ER alone is something noteworthy. Our ER is like a combat zone, in my job I try to avoid going down there to see patients until they make it into a regular room.

Debra--- I also remember Jefferson Airplane and just this past summer saw Starship featuring Mickey Thomas at a concert in Hersheypark Ampitheatre. That is how they are touring now. Did you know PA was one of the first states to pass legislation that in order to use a group name there has to be a member from that group performing. Apparently alot of groups are using names from the past and no one is an orginal member of the group and these old musicans are not getting the royalties from their songs. There is a nationwide movement by Bowzer from Sha Na Na (Jon Bauman) who is working to change the law to better protect real artists from the 50's and 60's from knockoff impostor groups. Bowzer's Rock N Roll review comes every year to Hersheypark and he brings alot of those older groups with him to perform. That is probably more information that anyone ever wanted, but I never realized that until Bowzer started his campaign.

Jeanne-- Were you having a senior moment when you welcomed Jayci who is really Kayci? Now it is bad when I find that you made a mistake it is usually the other way around.

I have worked out 3 days this week despite being at the conference. No cross training all TM or elipical. Sat one of my favorite instructors is doing spin class so will be doing that. I am running out of time to lose weight before my cruise. For at least the next 7 days I will try to eat better and increase my exercise hours. I have to go away over the 4th for a wedding so I know I will be throw off track again. This is a never ending challenge.

Have a great weekend.

Nancy

"867-5309, I got it, I got your number on the wall" Yup... I was a Jenny in my younger days. There is my song!

So, the shoes are in the camper, along with my little running skirt (please fit me). They are predicting rain, so we'll see what happens. If nothing else, I hope to walk some. I plan to check out some of the flood damage in the area. The lake is closed to all boat traffic and the beach is closed because of major erosion from the high rains and flooding we have had.

Debra - I am a mix between seeing the other half and coming home. While I am not rednecky (DH comes from a rednecy family)... I am very into the outdoors and nature and getting dirty.

Jeanne - My nimbus are 2 sizes larger and I sometimes think they will double for skis! I went 1 1/2 sizes larger and when I ran my toe jammed a bit. So 2 sizes works for me!!!

Ok book readers, I also packed a book to read while I am away. I was at the library yesterday and this one caught my eye "The Lolita Effect". It's about the profit motives behind the sexualization of tween girls. I don't know, but have two girls just frightens me at times. I hope it's not too deep of reading.

Have a great weekend cousins!

Hi Team!

Jeanne - The baby is better, thanks. It's amazing how quickly the antibiotics start working. NYC was so much fun. I hadn't been there in about 10 years. We did the American Girl store & cafe for DD and the Central Park Zoo for DS. We also took a carriage ride through Central Park (I have always wanted to do that), played in FAO Schwartz, and explored the Museum of Natural History. It would have been great to have another day or two, but I guess we'll just have to plan another trip. :cool1:

Johanna - Congrats on completing C25K! :thumbsup2 You must feel great about that. The Hungry Girl cookbook sounds fantastic. I'm heading to the bookstore tomorrow, so I'm going to pick it up if they have it.

Debra - How's your speediness? That's one area I'm not ready to tackle yet. I'm content with being able to increase my miles without any problems. I was hoping to be able to chat with you during the race, but you'll probably whizz by me at top speed. I'll be sure to shout hello when you do speed by me. As for my vacation reading, I'm not sure what you meant by "adult-oriented" ;) . That just means there are no pictures and no characters named Elmo, right? I'm plannning on picking up Janet Evanovich's Fearless Fourteen. Her books are great. So light and entertaining. I love a book that can make me laugh outloud, no matter where I am. I've also been reading the Alexander McCall Smith series starting with The Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency, I'm loving these books as well, so I picked up the next two in the series. I'm open to any other suggestions as well. I plan to read a lot on this trip, but don't worry, I do have other activities planned as well. ;) :lmao:

Nancy - Sorry you didn't have time to make it to WDW, but it's great that you got some workouts in while at the conference. :thumbsup2 The baby is much better, thanks. Although trips to the ER are never fun, I have to say that I love Children's Hospital here in Boston. Everyone who works there is just great. With three kids, I've been to the ER a few times now and they've always been wonderul.

Jen - I saw The Lolita Effect the other day, but I didn't buy it. After reading some reviews, I'm going to get it. My DD just turned 9 and the more I think about her teen years, the more scared I am. :scared1: Have fun camping. I hope you are able to stay dry.

Maria - I'm looking forward to your long post later today!

Oh, sure, Debra gets a song about being beautiful, and I get "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" Ok, who else has their own song?!

Maria

I have that wimpy one by Rod McKeun (anyone remember him?) from way back in the late 60's. It used to make me cringe everytime I heard it. I even shudder now just to think of it! :scared1: Not sure, but i think it was from "The Prime of Miss Jean Brody"
