Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Morning Cousins. I haven't posted since last week, but did check the thread each day. Just didn't have much to say.

Jen---Sorry life hasn't gotten better for you. Here is a  and somepixiedust:

Debra--- My favorite places to hid things that I don't want to deal with is in the closet. Out of sight out of mind. I have no advice to get your running mojo back, but I'm sure you will get it back before you know it.

Mel--- So it is hot and gross in Fl. Creativebeth and I are leaving for a conference on Sat in Orlando so I guess we will be doing the TM at the hotel instead of outside. I just finished Jimmy Buffet "Swine Not" now that was light and fluffy. I have to get Janet Evanovich new Stephanie Plum book "Fearless Fourteen" I would be for a book club. At this point I know I could follow through on that, unlike my weight loss program.

Hi Dave-- How is Erica doing?

A big shout out to Jeanne. Less than 2 months until we are :sail: and :drinking1 .

I am enjoying doing so many different classes at the gym and less walking. Already this week I have done spin classes, strength training, Aerobic interval class, pilates, elipical and walking. My body is less sore so I must be getting used to the new routine after a month. I am really dreading in Sept starting back to training for the half and increasing my walking as I will have to drop alot of these classes. Of course, maybe by then I will be tired of all these classes. I just wish the scale would move.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

Thanks Cousins. You are all the greatest. My intentions this summer is to hit the C25K for longer running intervals. I still hope to do that if I can get my bottom moving!!!!

Mel - See above, you are doing the same as I was planning. Actually, I started doing this last fall and it was working lovely. I was running (slowly) my 3 mile weekday runs at about 14 min miles. It was enjoyable too. Then winter hit and it hasn't been the same!!! I was doing that outside. Now that I have my new TM, I think I will be able to do more indoors again, tho the weather here still hasn't gotten hot. We have had rain and cold weather. We haven't even hit the 80's yet... but they say next week!!!

Debra - Thanks for your  's. Over the last year I have had a lot of personal issues with crazy family that should be in jail. Well one has been in, but never longer than a day (this is my brother). Besides my wacked out neighbors that peep in our windows (seriously, we have caught them!!), but brother has also been breaking into our home for God only knows what (he is into drugs). No matter what security we have, he is able to hack it with all his techy stuff. We are thinking a German Shepherd trained to kill will be our next option!!!!! So those are my privacy issues and frankly it is just stressing me out.

Mel - Book Club???? Maybe it would get me to read more!!!

Oh speaking of which.... Maria... I was at a garage sale last week and someone was selling the Truman book. I so though of you and told DH about you and book. He just gave me this look!!!!!

I have to get Janet Evanovich new Stephanie Plum book "Fearless Fourteen"

I can't wait to read that book. I'm always impatiently waiting every June for the next one to come out. DH and I are going away on a kid-free long weekend in July, so I'm really trying to wait until then to read it. I just don't know if I'll have the will power to wait that long. Those books are so entertaining.

Erica: Thanks so much for donating miles to Robert! You are quite the sweetie! :worship:

Jen: so sorry things are still crazy. That sounds like some pretty scary stuff that you are dealing with. :scared1: And neighbors that peep? How gross!
Sending you lots of    and :pixiedust: pixiedust: :pixiedust:

Mel,Julie,Debra,Nancy: Love the idea of a bookclub, but there's no way I can partake. I already belong to 2 monthly bookclubs - one in the development where I live now and the other in the development I recently moved from. Even though my intentions are good, I always end up pulling an all-nighter the day before the meeting. I need to read "The Great Gatsby" by next Wednesday (haven't read it since high school) and then "the Unwanted" by the following Tuesday. :scared1:

Well I have bad news...orthopedist visit was yesterday and I was still complaining about all the bad things with my knee, so he examined it and pushed down on one spot (the one that hurt the last time too) and it still hurts a lot. So...I'm now scheduled for arthroscopic surgery in mid-August (they were booked for the whole July!) with an estimated 3-6 week return to sports. If it's 6 weeks that puts me into October just in time for the start of volleyball season. But it also means I'll miss playing in the softball playoffs and I'm going to have to bail on next year's half. Three months of training to run 13.1 miles after not running for effectively 8 months is no kind of good. So that's my story. Bummer. :charac2: I'll play the world's smallest violin for myself now. haha.

book clubbing I don't know that I'd have time for that either. I get about 20 minutes to read during lunchtime and so it takes me forever to read any kind of book. Having to read one on a "deadline" would be not good for me.

Shell, sorry to hear the news about your knee. That really stinks. Try to keep your spirits up and focus on getting better! At least you'll be able to play volleyball and there's always 2010 for the half.

Shell,

I will start this topic with everyone against me. You can get into shape in 3 months for the 1/2. I am coming of scope in Jan and 4 hr cartilage implantation and 6 inch plate and 8 screws in March. I just started "walking" the last couple of weeks. I can go only 1 mile with big brace at 25 mi/mi pace but still plan on doing 5K & 1/2 at DL. My goal will be to finish. I am a walker and don't run( and wouldn't be allowed to by Dr for 9 months). If you start slow and your goal is to finish, you will be able to do it. You can do lots of cardio cross training in pool or bike to help.

Let the flamers begin on me;)

Julie: so sorry for the bad prognosis. That only gives you about 5 months to train for the Donald, but I know you can do it. :thumbsup2

Robert: I'm not in the habit of flaming anyone, but I would beg you to please take care! (Look what happened to Tiger Woods!)

Jen: I've said it before, but WI has been hit so very hard this year. And all that weather makes it difficult to get in a consistent running groove, let alone what it does for one's emotional state. And your privacy issues are well earned! It's bad enough to have nosy neighbors--and that behavior is beyond nosy. But to have family that you can't trust and who puts your home and nuclear family at risk (because that's what it does). Your situations makes me sad for you, but glad for me; I live far, far away from the drama in my life. I can totally see why you'd want to move, get a dog, install an electric fence, buy a cattle prod... Yeah, and this is the kind, gentle version of me. :lmao:

Mel: Isn't that wild--I'm trying to use C25K to increase my pace a little, in part because I'm trying to do more with less time. And let me tell you, working on speed is not getting Debra to her happy place, let alone pace. I think it's good for me, but it's hard. So maybe that's why I'm not feeling it.

And I'd love a WISH team book club, even if I'm unconvinced I'd be a good discussion leader. Those teacher tendencies, don't you know. "Now, in your 10 page papers...." :rotfl2: But I do so love to read--and the fluffier, the better, especially in summer. I'm in, regardless! How about Maria? She reads more that I almost anyone I know--and has very eclectic taste!! Speaking of reading, I just finished Matthew Pearl's The Dante Club, a fictionalized, historical thriller of the Boston group. Stronger in concept than in execution, I think.

Julie: Sniff, sniff. Yep, still a cougar. Better watch what you wear as the summer approaches! It attracts the young and the curious. Good thing you have a DH to keep you busy.

DH and I are going away on a kid-free long weekend in July.
And you think you're going to have time to read?? You might as well get that book now, woman!

Johanna: Oooh, Johanna's a reader, too! It looks like we need to do something! Btw, how's the training for your first race coming? Over the nerves of signing up?

Nancy: You've got a conference in Orlando? :woohoo: That's worth a new book and a a side trip to Disney, I think. And you and Beth never get time off together, if I remember correctly. I really think all the XT you're doing sounds exciting. I really need to consider how I might be able to adjust my schedule to fit in some classes that I've been eyeing. I'm sure the scale will budge soon, considering how much activity and variety as you're been getting.

Jeanne: Too bad about the book club. But I love The Great Gatsby, love it. For me, it got much stronger when I reread it as an adult. I never understand why it gets assigned before people have the life experience to appreciate it--like so many books, I suppose. I haven't read The Unwanted. Not that you need another assignment, but I'd be interested in knowing what you think.

Erica: I know you probably won't see this, but :yay: I hear you're doing well with your walking and liking the veggie lifestyle!

Shell: I'm so sorry to hear about your knee, even though the news isn't entirely unexpected. But I'm hoping that this means no pain, except for the pain in disrupted schedules and all. Can you be put on a "wait list" for surgery in case someone cancels? You know, you'd have plenty of time to read books while rehabbing.... Stationary bikes, ellipticals, etc. :rolleyes1

More seriously, have you read the latest Runner's World. It has an article in it about two very busy women who trained for a marathon; one of them got injured but managed to keep up with enough XT so that she could complete the race. Maybe you could work with your doctor on a rehab schedule for the January half--but only if your doctor's on board. You could even walk the half. Do the 5K? I'm kind of giving off that desperate "call-me" vibe of a first date, aren't I? Just trying to look for ways to get you to the WISH meet. On the up side, as Julie noted, you'll be available for volleyball season, which I know you love! :woohoo:

Robert: If I were a superhero, I'd look like the Human Torch: :furious: :rotfl2: No, I think you're right--Shell, with her doctor's guidance and PT, could probably do the 1/2 if her condition and her goals would allow it. (Methinks it might be a tad bit frustrating for her.) I have to admit, though, that I am both impressed and concerned about your plans. That's a lot of progress to make before DL, and after your really serious surgery! (I'll be the first to admit that I couldn't read some of your threads because I have a weak stomach for such details.) I can see the 5K, but the 1/2.... Here's PD for you and your training! pixiedust:

As for me: Not much. It's been pretty much perfect running weather here, which is nice. I'm not enjoying it as much as I should, but that I recognize it means something, huh? I still haven't figured out what bribes may motivate me. Maybe that means I don't need anything, huh? Maybe a new book. :lmao: I'd say having DOOD home early would help, but he emailed me earlier this week to say that he's staying in D.C. into July. Sweeet. Guess that means there will be no drill sergeant available to roll me out of bed for my a.m. WOs for a while yet.

Hey cousins. Quick post from me, but I have to share. We had a garage sale today... and when we went to pull signs I walked a block to grab one, turned around and jogged back to the car. DH waved me with a big thumbs up. It was so cute and I think she was happy to see me run again, even if for only a block!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Debra - When you find your happy place, let me know where it is. I think my happy place may be hiding with yours!!!!

Shell - I am so sorry you knee isn't better. DH had surgery last year in June. Although he doesn't run, he does bike. He worked at PT and got back on the bike a couple weeks later. Slow, but he did it. Don't count yourself totally out of the game yet, just be safe at it!

Johanna: Oooh, Johanna's a reader, too! It looks like we need to do something! Btw, how's the training for your first race coming? Over the nerves of signing up?:

Hi! One day I am over them, the next, not. But, I have three weeks to torture myself. My only worry is the growing concern of just how hot it can be at 6pm in Maine in mid-July. Ugghh. But, I will persevere. Thanks for asking!

I hope everyone else is doing fabulously, and maybe one of these days I will be able to keep up with this thread:lmao: :rotfl:

Just wanted to post a quick post before going to bed.

Bags are packed and traveling light for a change. I don't think I am bringing much back from the conference because of all the extra charges for a second bag. It will be nice to be with Beth for 5 days, it will be like a girls weekend with some education throw in. We already have lined up 2 meals and free drink nights so will have to do some exercise to work that off.

Shell--- Sorry about the problem with your knee.

Robert--- No flames from me either. You do what works for you. You are so strong that I'm sure the upcoming races you will be able to do. I know last year with all your problems you still managed to finish ahead of me.

Jeanne-- Look for something in the mail in a few days.

Debra--- I am so jealous how you can respond to all of us and make everyone feel so special

Erica-- Nice of you to drop in. Glad you are getting your groove back.

Hi to Jen, Mel, Julie, Maria, JacobsMom (sorry forgot your 1st name)

Time to head off to bed.

Nancy

My PT and I are working for the DL 1/2. My surgeon said I can't hurt the knee as long as I don't run. After my Scope in Jan, I was able to do 8 miles 2 months later. I would say if you work hard and follow a PT, you will be fine by WDW 1/2. I do admit that I don't give up easily but that is what WISH is all about :)

Hello team Ohana! My name is Jen and I am your newest teammate. I am 36 yrs old and live in Southern NJ where I work as a pediatrician. DH and I are DVC members and totally Disney addicted. We have now passed on the addiction to our DD4. I am very new to running be quickly becoming hooked-- who knew Disney could inspire me to jog!

The brief version of how I got to the WISH boards is: I listen to several Disney podcasts. Back in Dec, Jan they were all talking about the Disney Marathon weekend. The idea of running through the parks sounded cool but like too much work for lazy me. I played sports in high school and racketball all through college and med school but was never really athletic, so the idea of running a marathon was a bit crazy. I also happened to watch a Nova special about taking "couch potatoes" and seeing if they could run a marathon. I could identify with the couch potatoes and was really impressed that almost all of them completed the Boston Marathon. The idea of actually running a Disney race just sort of got into my head after the NOVA special. I made by DH watch the show (yeah for tivo) and after he finished laughing at me he decided to join in my craziness. As New Years resolution DH and I decided to try it and started jogging. We both ran in the Minnie 15K and loved it. Due to my nerves over being in a first ever race for me, I also ran the 5K the day before as a way to "ease in". I was alone, really nervous and sort of wandering around. I saw a group of people with WISH shirts and started to chat. Everyone was really nice and supportive and helped me get through the races. I've been lurking on the boards since that trip and decided to join in.:yay:

We are taking our 1st trip to DL to run the 1/2 this year and I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I'd love to be able to jog the whole thing (the word run implies too much speed). So far I can do 7 miles without a walk break, but Aug is coming up fast.... I would love some WISH teammates to cheer me on.

Thanks for listening to me ramble on, I guess I should stop typing and actually get in some miles.

Aloha!

I have been a very remiss teammate (or is that missing teammate?!) lately. I apologize -- it is my busy season at work and I have 10 (count 'em, 10!) applications due before August 11th, so I am flat out at work, and I don't have my usual DIS time.

I promise I will again drive you all crazy with my chattiness when late August arrives. On the bright side, I'm still doing very well with the wog 4/wog 2 alternating schedule. I did have to buy another pair of Asics cloud shoes (yes, it's just like floating along :thumbsup2 ), 'cause I just wasn't feeling right without the shoes "resting". DH thinks I'm nuts and it was a waste of $, but I stand by my story.

I am daunted by the idea of even trying to address everyone individually since I'm so far behind, so forgive me if I omit anyone or don't respond coherently.

JenB -- :welcome: We are very excited to have a new cousin! We love to read, we're a little wacky and home of the "cougars" (that's the way us newly 40 and over 40 gals try to stay positive :goodvibes). If you go way, way, back at the beginning of the thread, we have introductions. Or just jump in where we are, we're good with that, too!

Mel -- I hope you're doing ok. I know this is not your best year ever, but hopefully it's getting better as it goes along ::yes::

Johanna -- Congratulations on your accomplishment! Is that "Pomp and Circumstance" I hear in the background?! :listen:

Robert -- Ok, we all know you are Superman, but that is just amazing! What a recovery. And you still walk faster than I wog! ;)

Nancy & Beth -- I hope you are having a wonderful time at your conference! We miss our tips and your quips! :wizard:

Jen -- Here's hoping you are able to find your happy place and relax there for a good long while. I know you are having a heck of a time, just take each day as it comes, and know we're here for you! :grouphug:

Debra -- Ok, I admit I am a voracious reader, but you can't expect me to be cogent, eloquent and insightful...once again, coherent is really the best we can hope for! :rotfl2: Still reading Ladies of Liberty -- hard to get into, but that's just because I find Cokie Roberts commentary annoying; Bitter is the New Black -- you really shouldn't say the things the author does, but we do tend to think some of them...; with White House Ghosts on tap. No it's not paranormal, it's about presidents and their speechwriters. Just so you don't think I'm too literary, I'm also reading a series by Susan Mallery in which all the titles begin, "The Sheik and the " fill in the blank, my personal favorite title is "Christmas Bride". Now who doesn't want to read that happy, romantic cheery book? Hey, sometimes you need a break from the political aspirations of Abigail Adams...

Jeanne -- Are you enjoying the peace and quiet yet? You have had a whirlwind Spring, I hope you're able to relax for awhile now! :yay:

Julie -- I hope you don't have great weekend plans, 'cause it's gonna pour! :rolleyes1 Maybe if you get out really early...I'm thinking maybe I'll try Deer Island at 5:30 am.

Shell -- So sorry about the bummer diagnosis! Just do what you can, and be proud of yourself!

Erica & Dave -- You guys are such troopers! Thanks for always being with WISH to keep the rest of us moving! :goodvibes

Richard -- I hope you're feeling better each day. :wizard:

Denny & Christa -- :wave2:

Ok, new on my ipod:

In Your Room -- The Bangles
Runaway -- Bon Jovi
Bad Medicine -- Bon Jovi
C'mon Get Happy -- David Cassidy
Just Between You & Me -- Lou Gramm

Still looking for new moving music (obviously not necessarily new, just something I don't already have. Oldies are welcome and should apply! :thumbsup2 )

So, what is the song that you can't not move to? For me it's Shakira's "Whenever, Whatever". Oh! I'm not a total old fogie, I have "Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven and "Rock Star" by Nickelback.

If you have indeed read this entire post, you may be eligible for a) social security ('cause it took so long) b) ComicCon -- ok, you might already have your tickets or c) 'cause we are family!

Ok, admit it -- am I the only one who smiles when they see the ads for the premieres of Stargate Atlantis and Eureka? Is that the sound of crickets chirping?! It's true, I'll never be one of the cool kids, but you're stuck with me. You can't choose your relatives1 :rotfl:

Everybody have a rockin' week, and yes, Molly Ringwald really is 40...:faint:

Maria :happytv:

Yay, Maria is back! We missed you! :yay:  :yay:

I have alot of songs that make me move, but one of the favorites on my ipod is "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Jefferson Starship (even though I am old enough to remember Jefferson Airplane!) For some reason that really gets me motivated.
