Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Debra...truth or what he's telling everyone? :rolleyes1
He says it felt like scratching and wasn't painful. Realistically, I went back while it was going on when DOOM started babbling about bizarre things...something he tends to do when stressed. And when it was over and he got up off the chair, the waist of his pants and chair were soaked with sweat. Soooo...I'm thinking it wasn't as breezy as he'd like everyone to believe ;)

Maria...the mental part of this running thing is HUGE! Sometimes taking some time off is exactly what you need.

Jen...good luck with the new TM!

80 degrees and 30 mph wind gusts if anyone wants to come down and do some spring break runs :)

Debra-- I can answer for Jeanne, this is not her baby that is graduating that would be DS#2. He did the Mickey in January. This is DD #2 who is bring her BF to meet the family. She did the Goofy. Just to confuse you she will also have DD#1 graduating with her Masters in May. She doesn't do any racing. And DS#1 is doing Expediation Everest with her in Sept. Good she stopped at 4.

Nancy

Wow, Nancy, very good...you get a gold star for a perfect score! He is very nice. I just thought I'd grab a few posts while they are still sleeping....upstairs, downstairs......at least I think! ;) I just found out last night that his aunt lives in PA in the same town as Nancy.......Cahuaga St or something like that.......I'll get the exact spelling today. Small world!

Ok, now we need more information if it is Cayuga Lane that is right where Beth and I both live. Beth actually runs up the hill to Cayuga. Gosh he can come visit here and then Beth can meet him. This guy will think we are crazy.

Glad things are going well.

Nancy

Guess what I did last night... I RAN OUTSIDE! It was icey in places so my pace was slower because I had to tip toe walk. But I did it. I was so bundled up I almost looked like Mel in the 2006 WDW pic!!!!

Hey guys! Sorry no time to catch up on everyone b/c LTO! I will tri tonight.:goodvibes

But I am so excited! I just ran the fastest 4 mile in my life...4 miles in 30:18! That is a 7:35 MPM ave! :cool1: I did start out with my 1st mile like at 7:27, but my last mile was 7:36 so I stayed kinda on track...no pun.;) My normal 5k pace is 7:40 so I was going just a little faster...I call it throw up mode b/c at the last mile I am thinking I may hurl on the side of the trail. As a disclaimer though...the trail does not have any steep hills so it is mostly sorta flat....my 5ks are normally hilly.

He's still asleep, but I think that's the street......all I know is that they are Greek! It's his mother's sister so the last name would be different. I dunno, look for the house that looks like Acropolis....:rotfl2:

Nancy: Thanks for Jeanne's family history--I think you should be their genealogist!

Shell: I'm so sorry to hear about your knee. I'd been hoping it was on a straightforward path towards recovery & it even sounded like it was going to be fine. I hope your orthopedist has some good news or at least a strategy. In the meantime, I hope you had a great Easter & at all the jelly beans and/or chocolate bunnies your heart desired!

Maria: I do so hope you're feeling better, making a mountaineer's progress--and heck, Space Mountain sounds pretty darned good to me--on all fronts. Not the least of which is work stress. Has that subsided somewhat? When you get back into the groover, I'd be interested in finding our what you've been thinking of Lost. After all, it's one of my not-so-guilty pleasures--and yours, too!

Mel: DOOM is a far, far braver man than I am (well, that's a given...how about a far braver person than I). The description of getting a tattoo as scratching makes it almost sound do-able, though. Didn't Jeff mention on the weekly thread that you're contemplating another one?

Jeanne: So...you like him, do you? And you can get Nancy to check up on him. Does it get any better than that? ;) Like Nancy says, I'm glad things are going well.

Jen: Anymore outdoor running? We're getting snow for Easter, white like the cute little Cadbury bunny, so I hope you've got sunshine.

Christa: WOW! That's a lightening fast pace, Christa! I'm glad to hear you didn't boot, though, as that might have taken some of the glory out of the accomplishment. On second thought, I don't know if anything would have taken the glory--just maybe some of the pleasure. I checked out your WO log--it looks like you're really enjoying the biking course for the Tri. It'll be cool to find out what happens on next Saturday's Tri! :woohoo:

As for me: I finally got new shoes (NB 1223, stability) in time for my LR this Saturday, or the half-and-half, as I like to call it. I run the first part of the distance & then RW the rest until I hit the mileage called for by the MfM plan. This week, it's 33 minutes run, followed by a RW until I reached 6 miles. (Next week: 36 minutes & 7 miles. Etc.)

The new shoes are the best-fitting shoes I've owned, so I'm fairly happy. That said, I still got a small blister, just in a new place. It's not nearly as severe as "normal" for me, so I'm no inclined to take them back to the running store. I don't think it's a problem with how I was fit--or at least an unusual problem--so I'll need to make adjustments, as blisters are my achilles heel. (I don't know if that makes any sense.) I ran without adding blister guard or trying my new Injinji socks, because I wanted to get a sense of the shoes' fit "as is," and so hopefully these things will make enough of a difference.

P.S. In other fronts, I'm finally reading Card's Ender's Game. Why haven't I read this before? It's all I can do to put it down at the end of a chapter & not reading more than I've allotted time for. Fascinating stuff & I'm looking forward to reading the entire trilogy.

Hi Team

Just a quick report for this week,

After running a 1/2M, I took it easier than normal this week. For today's long run I ran 6.2 miles. It turned out that I ran a bit faster than I intended, but still a bit slower than normal. After tomorrow's rest day, I hope to be ready for a normal schedule.

I got my WDW 1/2M confirmation today. I got in at the last minute, but now I am definitely officical!

Happy Easter, Everyone!!!

HAPPY EASTER, OHANA!

Hi everyone....where are you? Hello, hello, anyone out there...I am tapering....hello....:surfweb:

I'm still here! I'm about to leave so no big post, but I promise to get back to you guys later.

Christa -- You're not alone, we are with you in both mind and body(ok, the body is virtual, but you know)!

Maria

Question?
My tri...do I count the miles as double?
12 mile bike
3.11 run
500 yrds swim.....

to double that would be cool....it is a race....normally the century rides are not a "race" but they are an event you signup for and pay and train...ect....does that count double?

OK, my life is seriously crazy. Work is not even comprehendable. We are having cutbacks and suddenly everyone is wimping out and dumping things on me. Ummm, usually the boss is not the one that has to bust this hard. So I am freaking out trying to get everything done. I no longer have an assistant to assist me!!!!

AND WE ARE STILL GETTING SNOW. Have I mentioned how I really hate Wisconsin this year. What is the deal. I am ready for spring any day now. I would just settle for days like last week when I was able to run outside. I am seriously going wacko (Christa can you counsel me on this???)

Christa - According to the rules, races count as double. So I would think your Tri would be double. Seems that other teams are doing it that way. And could you imagine one team member having over 200 miles because they did a century ride. That is out of control!!!!! Oh and so sorry you are tapering and we weren't here for you! BAD TEAM!

Maria - Are you back on track? Do I need to kick your booty? Wait, do I need Christa the Evil Queen to kick your booty??

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... life is better now that I posted!

Absolutely! According to the rules any race is doubled, so go for it, girl!

Thanks so much for your contribution to the team....you are definitely our heroine!

I'm here, cranky but here. I've been moody & another word that, when combined, makes me what can best described as mitchy. So I've been avoiding bringing it to WISH when possible. I blame it on my stonker of a run. Or my cats, who keep me up at night. Or a distinct lack of chocolate in my diet. Whatever. :lmao:

Christa: Yes, your Tri counts as double. It's a race event. Pretty cool, huh? How are you handling the taper otherwise?

Maria: It's good to hear that you're back, if busier at work than ever. Site visits sound much more fun than hearings. Is there an end in sight for you on that front?

Jen: I can't believe you're still getting the snow you're getting. How are you supposed to think about swimsuit season in weather like that? Or maybe you're too busy with TM shopping?

Mel: Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the work on the Race Ready drama. How do you find the time & patience. You're a saint, I tell you!

Ashley: How is your training coming along?

Jim: How's the bike treating you? Was it worth the investment?

Jeanne: So.... more details on the Easter weekend are forthcoming, yes?

Denny: Is the knee healing well? I hope so, because Minnie is quickly approaching. What's your plans for that, btw?

Richard: How is your R&R coming? Thanks so much for being one of the folks who recommended Ender's Game to me. I'm now reading Speaker for the Dead.

Nancy: Speaking of reading, what James Patterson would you suggest I start with? Did your son come up with your personalized training program yet? Or have you been confined to spring yard work so far? ;)

Julie: How has the weather been treating you & Maria? Have you been able to get outside consistently? And, most important, how's the ankle doing as (if) you're increasing mileage?

Vanessa: I hope you're doing well & planning on coming back to Ohana soon. Once family, always family!

Shell: When's your appointment with the orthopedist?

Kelly: How's your transition to running progress? What intervals are you using now?

Robert: How's the move-in coming? Are you and Linda enjoying the new place? And did you two just RD an event? How was that, between the getting settled in & pre-surgery prep? Is the surgery this week, Wednesday/Thursday??

Corrina: Has Godspell ended yet? And if so, have you planned your next involvement in a show? I hope you're enjoying running with your puppy!

As for me: Had a bleh Monday (aborted run) & have been in an awful mood ever since. I'm trying to lose a few pounds, but am worried about my fueling at this point as I've had no energy on and off for about a week. So I'm trying an experiment today: I'm consuming about 300 more calories than SP says should be my upper limit. I'm wondering what will happen with tomorrow's run if I do so. If I have to choose, I'd rather have the energy.

On happier fronts, tonight is the last episode of Jericho, a show with much promise that the networks ruined, IMO, first by cancellation & then by renewing for just 7 episodes & a much reduced cast. It provides closure for the story arc, I guess, but didn't keep to the promise of the earliest episodes.

Also, I'll be in WDW in 10 days! Still no swimsuit, but I'm ready for the sun & some Disney fun!

Debra...you crack me up...."mitchy". Well guess what dear...I'm mitchy too. And my cats also have something to do with it (and the crappy run from Sunday as well). Was it a full moon the night before last b/c the little fur balls totally kept me up and I was sooo exhausted yesterday because of it! The chocolate thing though...I've been sneaking from kids easter baskets. OMG...like I need THAT. I'm trying to drop the 3 lbs I gained after Goofy....which btw let me fill everyone in....training for Goofy you can eat a LOT because you are burning a LOT of calories. When you get home and back off...you (meaning me) probably shouldn't eat as much. I know...makes sense....but :confused3 . So....the easter candy is NOT helping my post-goofy weight issue. Ugh. Now that I've made this all about me Deb...I do hope you are feeling less mitchy and starting to cheer up :sunny:.

Christa: Yup...I say it definitely counts double. Heck..it is a tough race you deserve the double miles :). I cannot wait to hear how awesome you do!!! You are my inspiration!:goodvibes

Ohana...you guys continue to kick butt in the hours AND now you're knocking on our doors with the miles too. NO FAIR ;). Just kidding...I'm continually impressed with the solid weeks you guys put up there.

Jen: UGH...you are still getting snow. What a long winter you've had :(.

Have a great week Team Ohana!!!! :cool1:

Hey Team! I'm new, and I already tried posting on the miles/minutes thread but I guess I was in the wrong place! Oops!

I've done WISH stuff before -- back in 2005 with the first group of WISHWalkers in the Disney 1/2. I am starting my training season (a little late as I have already done a 10 mile race a couple weeks back... Oops!) One of my goals/resolutions this year was to do another marathon (I did two in 2007) and to have it take me less time. I'd like to train for under 5 hours. I also wanted to be comfy in a bikini, not shy in my bikini for summer.

As it is nearly April I am feeling the big crunch. I bought a new training log (Training for Mortals) and am logging everything. I have a motivating brother, boyfriend and training friend (but I don't get to train with her very often, we just kind of compare and she kicks my butt in races). My goal is to do at least one hour of exercise per day and to target my core each night.

I will do my best to log time for the team. Is there a goal for us to reach or how do we know how our team ranks? It seems there's been some confusion about being competitive. Are we competitive or is there a prize or ??? Please help!

Also, I would love to motivate you all. I will do my best to learn about each of you, but will probably be kind of quiet for the first week or two as I won't quite know what to say! You will hear from me!

Are we supposed to log both time and mileage? Let's say I went to spin class (60 minutes) and did CORE (10 minutes) on Monday and did 3.53 miles (45 minutes) and CORE (10 minutes) yesterday. Would I post 3.53 miles/125 minutes or do I take out the 45 for the run since I am already counting that as mileage? HELP!

Thanks! Sorry for the long post...

Ashley

P.S. Something I like to repeat to myself is "DEFINE YOURSELF." I am defining myself by not being a quitter, working hard and managing myself. I am defining myself physically, too! (I hope!)

Happy Wednesday, Team Ohana!

Welcome Ashley! We were looking for you last week! Glad to have you on Team Ohana.....we really are one big family. :grouphug:
About the posting.....basically, if it can be measured in distance (walking, running, swimming, cycling, etc) you get to count BOTH the miles AND the time involved. If it's something that essentially has no distance (Yoga class, weight-training, Pilates, tennis, shoveling snow, dancing, etc.) you get to count the time spend doing the activity. Plus, if you are competing in an organized event, you get to DOUBLE the distance. So you would report 26.2 miles for a HALF marathon (2 x 13.1) and so on. Got it? Generally we post our activity on a weekly basis on the other "Post your miles...." thread. The week goes from Saturday thru Friday, although some people are on a slightly different schedule due to Garmin settings and such. In the end it will all even out.

Now that our guests are gone I am trying to get things back to normal. the house is in pretty good shape, but I have a major catch-up to do for all things work related. We did not like our daughter's BF.....we LOVED him! The actual "conversation" did not take place, but he let us know his intentions were honorable and there was most likely going to be a big fat Greek wedding in our future. There is a fairly significant age difference (he's actually closer to our age than to hers) so we all basically agreed it was best not to rush things. We shall see......;)

Welcome Ashley. :welcome:

Maria--- Are you doing better this week.

Debra--- I am so impressed how you an respond to everyone. You should try the Alex Cross series or the Women's Murder Club for the James Patterson books. Along Came a Spider is the first in the series, you don't have to read them in order but it helps with the timeline. They are a fast read.
Last week DS did not train with me, March Madness overtook helping his Mom. Oh the struggle of losing and fueling. If you find the solution let us know.

Jen--- I hope your weather improves soon. We are starting to have all the signs of Spring in my area. Robins are back, grass getting green, spring flowers blooming. I love this time of year.

Christa--- I'm tired from just reading what you do.

I am so looking forward to Minnie weekend to get away from work. Finished making DVC reservations for my Oct trip which will be the week of ToT race.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Nancy
