Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Hi Everyone!

Just a drive-by, as I have to get out to a site visit this afternoon. One of our permanent housing projects is completed and full of formerly homeless tenants, and I have to give one of the funders a tour. This is the part of my job I really like, it's awesome when a project is completed!

Jen -- I'm trying to think of a way to get out of the ziti supper. I totally don't mind paying for it as it is a school fundraiser, I just don't want to attend. DH is feeling achy, and the cat can't stop sneezing -- maybe we should stay home so we don't infect anyone? ;)

Nancy -- Anne Rice generally has two (now 3) types of books -- her vampire series, her witch series, and her Christ series. While there are certainly murders and mysteries in all of them, I'd hesitate to call them murder mysteries. The other book I'm finishing, Carrot Cake Murder is the latest in the series by Joanne Fluke. They are definitely murder mysteries (but fairly light reading, I think they'd be great on the TM), and they include baking recipes.

Christa -- You are a woman in motion! I'm surprised you don't meet yourself coming and going! :cool1:

Julie -- It is hard to keep track of everyone. I'm sure I occasionally mix people up, so please forgive me :flower3:

Debra -- This is probably from another thread, forgive my confusion. The organization I belong to is actually the American Association of Grant Professionals, sorry if that cause any confusion. The certifying agency is the Grant Professional Certification Institute, and separate entity that was created for the sole purpose of developing, administering and maintaining credentials.

Losties -- There will be a pause before the new episodes start -- they will come with the new Thursday lineup, with episodes of Betty, Grey's and then Lost at 10 Eastern time. I believe the start day is April 24th, but don't hold me to that. I would not necessarily assume that Aaron is one of the six -- remember he was not born at the time of the crash, and so would not be on the manifest.

Ok, off to Dorchester...

Maria :cloud9:

Hi Everyone!

......

Jim -- That was quite the race! Ok, I would be so mentally freaked after the bathroom. You are made of stern stuff! pirate:

......

Everybody have a Happy Tuesday!
Maria :cloud9:

How did you know what she said? :rotfl2: :scared1:

Sorry, but I had to say it........

Well, I have fallen way behind....last week was FULL - tech week and 3 shows this weekend, so it was tough to focus on training. Then on Saturday, we crazily adopted a dog. We are cat people, but now we have a dog as well. He's a cute 9 month old lab mix, and I must say, walking him seems to be edging out my normal runs a bit. Unfortunately, he still needs to learn some manners on the leash. We'll get there, I'm sure. BUT for the moment, kind of crazy.

I've got a 5K coming up this Sunday- I'm thinking that this is probably NOT going to be my sub-30, but I guess you never know! I think I will do a less brutal interval workout tomorrow on the TM, and just hope for the best. :)

Mel: Did you get back into your groove today?

Robert: Sounds like things with the condo are settling down & it'll be a great place for walking. Also, good news on the upcoming surgery. It's quickly approaching but that means you'll be on your way to recovery soon, too!

Jim: The Gate Run sounds fun, with the beer & the potential to score a hat. And it sounds like you got great exposure, too. Of course, I'm referring to the jumbotron, but there was that bathroom incident too. :lmao:

Maria: Again, whoo hoo on your new designation. How was your DS's birthday party? Did you have Carrot Cake to celebrate your book reading? Mmmm, I love carrot cake. And ziti. And pancakes. Can I come live with you?

And about the distinction between your AAGP organization & the GPCI...the confusion was all mine! Everything makes a lot more sense in my head now, and it's all the more impressive because the certification is developed & awarded by an independent organization. I have much to learn about that kind of work, so I appreciate all the info!

Julie: I'm the wordy one. :rotfl: But if you want to talk books, television & film, I'm one of your go-to gals! :thumbsup2

Jen: I admire you for doing your tucks, planks, and crunches. I've been trying to increase my core work, but it still tends to be the first thing I knock off my list if crunched for time (hah!). So your commitment to working your core is something I need to emulate. And you deserve a big :yay: for being flexible with working out & for working around DD's meltdown. I can't imagine how motivated and flexible all you folks with kids have to be just to think about working out. My life & training program is so easy.

Jeanne: No worries--I'm sure Vanessa understands. If I remember correctly, she's got a jam-packed schedule with work, school, DH, etc. Maybe she's just overwhelmed? We all know how that feels--I don't know how you manage to keep up with everything here, oh Captain! :worship:

Christa: It's been YEARS since I've done that--but I remember how hard it was then. Wow--setting up, performing, strike, Fitness Camp, and a run?? I'd be exhausted but I'm so proud of you. Try to get some rest, huh? I also hope you have some vacation time coming. ;)

Nancy: Yeah, DOOD is taking me to Disney to celebrate my turning the big 4-0! I wish it was over the Minnie weekend, so I could hang with WISHers, but I won't look a gift Mickey in the mouth. Plus, one of my oldest friends, a married couple, are going to be there the same weekend--it was a coincidence, but all the more reason to celebrate! And this trip is all about the breakfasts! Love to eat, like you and Christa, but I'm trying to drop some weight. Does eating food at Disney count toward my calories???

Oh, and I love the idea of a book exchange at the gym. Reading makes some of my XT go so much faster.

Corrina: Wow, your week has been crazy!! I hope tech week was fairly smooth. And a new pooch the same week! In the long run--hah!--he'll be a good training partner, I'm sure. Good luck on the 5K--I'll be rooting for you having a fun run at whatever pace feels good!

As for me: We're in the middle of spring break here, but DOOD flew out of town today for an academic conference. That leaves me living single for the next few days. I should have planned a short trip somewhere sunny, but instead I'll be spring cleaning & spoiling the cats.

Losties: More spoilers/comments.....

Nancy, I'm not convinced Aaron counts as an Oceanic Six survivor because he was born on the island?? The other four have been identified or identified themselves specifically as members of the Oceanic Six.

So I'm also leaning toward Jin/Sun as members of the Oceanic Six. Sun is highly motivated to get off the island, in particular. I'd like to see them split up, just for conflict. Then who? Sawyer? I'd love to see Locke off the island, either as an Oceanic Six member or unofficially--getting exiled from that which he considers home. I'm betting that Rose & Bernard don't leave, neither does Claire (which brings up questions about Aaron for me).

Another question: who is Ben's man on the boat? I'm thinking Michael, as he doesn't want to be too far from Walt. And Walt may be on the island, in whatever form.

Geez, I hope I'm wrong & continue to be confused! :rotfl2:

ETA: I had a question for you all about the most recent episode, but I think I figured it out.

Have about 30 min b/4 leaving work...love the paper work that goes along with counseling.....
I skipped my swim today to go to lunch with my sweet DOOC:goodvibes . He took me to eat sushi...not promising anything, but may tri to get on the bike tonight....must start the tri taper next week...according to my BT schedule....

HEY! Go read my Monday's report on my WO log....look what I did.:woohoo: The link is below....

Sorry I am not catching up with everyone...have to make my client notes...they are all so impressed that I can remember the details of the last session...they must not know I have to write everything down to remember...then I look over it b/4 seeing them the next time.:flower3: It was a good day today...lots of progress.

ah it's late and time for bed but I have some quick words

LOSTIES! WOW! I had heard rumors of what was going to happen at the end, but I was still weepy. Aw. So sad.

Did anyone happen to catch the "date" on a certain object near the end. I saw 2004 but missed the month & day because by the time I realized what it was showing it was too late. UGH!

Also, Aaron, Desmond, Ben, the French woman whose name escapes me now, Juliet, etc., any of those who would make it off the Island (no I'm not saying that they are making it off, but *if*) would not be considered part of the "Oceanic Six" indeed because they were not on the plane's manifest. So theoretically more people could make it off, but would not officially be part of the Six.

Oh this episode was soooo good! Night everyone!

EDIT: Ok, so I couldn't go to bed before I tried searching message boards to answer my own question about the date and oooooooh is it deliciously evil. But it also brings up a ton of other questions....I'm not going to say more in case people are watching this later on DVR or something...

Christa, your mini-tri sounds very cool. I love how one transition was faster because of the gym setting, the other was slower - I am sure it all evens out in the end. :) Congratulations!

Debra - tech week was, well not so much a disaster as just not what I expect in a tech week. There was never a cue-to-cue rehearsal, it was all just runs, tech do your thing as best you can during the runs. This group has their own weird ways, that is for sure.

The show itself is great - I am not a fan of Godspell, actually, but this production of it is pretty darned enjoyable. And, at the risk of going on too much, it has really required some creative props management. The props are nearly all on the stage all the time, the actors all want to set them themselves for the most part AND there was no comprehensive props list, either. The props were all just in bins So a regular old taped props table or two just wasn't what they seemed to need or want. It's a crazy solution, but I went to Target and got $1 sesame street drawstring backpacks, one for each actor and put tags with their names on it, and wrote down who got which prop at the start of each show. Very unconventional prop management, but they seem to appreciate not having to dig through the bins. :)

I ran 5 by myself yesterday - it's harder to run with the dog. I took him for a couple of 1 mile walks as well. And then Kung Fu class in the evening. I was pretty tired out yesterday!

Hi  my other team! ;)

Just popping in to say you guys are still rockin' the socks off this competition. Deb and Christa...you girls are workout beasts!!! Debs...your mileage this week was crazzzazy!!! :worship:

Okay, Jen...your turn. I just got back from the tattoo shop. :thumbsup2

MEL - YOU DID NOT! I have to see a pic!!!! DH nags on me all the time about it, so if I tell him you did it I will be in HUGE trouble. I will see about working up my nerve to do it. I told my mom last week and she gave me this look like I was a hellion!!!!

LET ME SEE IT!!!!!

OK, did 6 today. I am still indoors because we have so much snow and the weather turned cold cold cold again. Any little bit of snow that melts, turns into ice because the water has no where to go yet. Last year I was outside by now, so I am getting REALLY cranky about this. The good news is that DH did 1/2 mile walk with me during my 6 miles and even with that break to chat with him I was still 1 minute less than my last 6 mile run! HOOOOOHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Hi Team!

I am back from running my half marathon today, specifically the Seabrook (TX) Half Marathon. Here, is a quick report. This was a trail marathon, and it got really warm and humid during the mid-morning hours. Even with all these things working against me, I still had a pretty good day. I ran the first of two laps at race pace, maybe a bit faster than I expected considering that I was on a trail (although it was a good running trail). I ran the second lap at a reduced run/walk pace, by then the temperatures had increased and the humidity was definitely up, my heart rate kept increasing, so I kept adding more walking. I started the second lap with a 5 minute run and 1 minute walk and finished that lap at a 2 minute run and 2 minute walk. I finished at 3:05 on my Garmin,

All in all the race was good and well supported. It was limited to 500 runners. They are also running a full and a half tomorrow as well. I'll be sitting that one out!

Best of all, I'll have double the 13.1 miles for the race to add to next week's totals, not to mention having another race medal to add to my collection.

Christa: Wow--your mini tri sounds great, and it predicts a good finish time for you, right? Btw, what's "swimming down"? Best of all, I can feel how excited you were by the tone of your post!

Shell: I was a fan of the epi too, especially it's structure. Not too surprising, but done well. I think the date is suggestive of the plans the Oceanic Six are following, right? (Hope that's obscure enough.)

Corrina: No props table? That is weird, at least from my memory. But I love your whimsical solution & it sounds like you've been accepted into their culture. Do you think you'll work with them again, or want to?

Hi  my other team! ;)

Just popping in to say you guys are still rockin' the socks off this competition. Deb and Christa...you girls are workout beasts!!! Debs...your mileage this week was crazzzazy!!! :worship:

Amy, our other teammate!!! Thanks for the compliment. But don't pay too much attention to my mileage. It was spring break week here, which means DOOD and I doubled our WOs (his idea, not mine). They're kind of throwaway miles this week, just so I could spend some time with DOOD. So I've really not been performing at the intensity I need to in terms of biking. I'm not being modest here, as they've all been easy miles meant to strengthen my knee without doing more harm. Anyway, I'm itching to get off the stationary bike & onto the real road soon. And then I'll complain about Pgh hills & crazy drivers. :rotfl2:

Best of all, when that happens, I'll be turning to you for motivation, you hill-repeats girl!

Mel: You taunt us with suggestive comments & no pictures??? Did I tell you DOOD wants to get a tattoo & has settled on a design he needs to locate?

Jen: I hear you on the weather, and mine's nothing compared to yours. But I keep reading about you overcoming the weather & other obstacles to kick some serious training butt! WTG on the 6 miler!!

Richard: You rock, man! I'm really impressed with that time in those conditions on a trail run. Will you be doing this one again? It sounds like it was challenging for you (in a good way) and, with its limited field, well organized. Did you enjoy it, I guess, is my question. Oh, and thanks for racking up the miles for Ohana!

As for me: Today was the last official day of my C25K day. :woohoo: I still need to continue increasing my time past that 1/2 mark to hit the 5K distance and beyond, but it's nice to have that goal accomplished. I finished my running time with a R/W to meet my 1/2 marathon LR distance of 5 miles, which I finished in just under an hour (and that included a 5 minute WU)! I finished my WO with some more biking, as I find that it actually helps my knee to recover if I end a run with some XT (elliptical or biking) and then stretching. :confused3

I need to get more serious about timing myself & pace, eventually, but right now I'm just concentrating on breathing & form. I'm really trying to follow the Chi Running techniques, and so that kind of comes before everything else at this point.

It's still pretty red and swollen but should be fully healed by the Minnie. There's a little stray ink that will cleanup once I can scrub the area again (2 weeks).

Jen - You better watch out. There's no proof that the tat is on Mel! That could be a picture of anyone's arm/leg/belly/back/butt cheek/etc.

She very well could have Googled "marathon tattoo" and posted the picture in an effort to trick you into getting inked up!!

Just imagine how hard she'd laugh if you showed up at your next race sporting an enourmous (yet tastefully done, I'm sure) "I kicked 26.2's a**" tattoo and she was still unmarked!

I'd hold out for a little more evidence that the conquered beast is a permanent resident on Mel if I were you.

Mel, awesome art work.

My pretty princess got a dolphin on her lower back when she turned 50. We have plans for a small tattoo ringing on her ankle with: Mickey, Donald and Goofy connected by a ribbon.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Mel - Cool tattoo. I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to do something like that.

Jen - I know what you mean about the snow and ice. Luckily, here in Boston the snow and ice are gone...for now, at least. I hope you thaw out soon.

Richard - Congrats on the half!

Debra - Happy "last day of C25K" - congrats on accomplishing your goal. Doing 5 miles in under an hour sounds great. I've yet to go that far!

As for me, my mysterious ankle injury is just about healed. Today, I ran my longest distance ever - a whopping 4 miles! It really wasn't as bad as I though it was going to be, so I'm looking forward to trying to increase my weekday runs as well.

Have a great week everyone! :goodvibes

P.S. There seem to be a lot of readers on our team, so is anyone reading anything great right now? I like just about anything, so I'd welcome any suggestions. Thanks!

Definitely not a butt cheek...not enough cellulite ;)

Now Mike, that's a level of deviousness I hadn't even considered :thumbsup2

I'll have to get a more proof oriented photo. And if I can prove it's mine, who thinks Mike should have to get one too? :thumbsup2

Mike - Yah, Mel can be quite devious. After running 2 races with her, I have gleaned a little info from her!!!

Mel - Very cool. I told DH and he attempted to drag me to the car to get it done. Then I said I wanted to see a pic of yours and he has been asking me every couple of hours if you had posted yet. So I don't think I will get out of this one. I think mine will be Mickey ears with 13.1 and 26.2 in each ear. Not totally sure yet tho, but WDW was my first 1/2 and full and I hope for many more!!!

OK, This afternoon I took the dog for a 2 mile speed walk (Well speedy for me anyway). IT WAS COLD, I had my hat and gloves, heavy sweatshirt and winter jacket. I am so depressed with this weather. I am worried that Minnie's heat will whip my butt!

Oh and Mel - is that on your inside ankle or outside? And seriously, how much did it hurt??? I am a total pain whimp when it comes to needles and stabbing!
