I'm sick of names that are intentionally misspelled to be unique. Misspelling a name only makes it annoying. I don't mind unusual names or common names. Just spell it the normal way.
Ex. - Like spelling Tina as Teena
Why? Why? Why? The person will never find anything with their name on it and will have to spell their name for people their entire lives. That does not sound fun.
when i taught in the 80's i got very sick of: sean/shawn/shaun as well as ryan/rhyan (and in one year a 3rd in the same class whose was spelled
r-i-a-n with expressed instrucions from mom and dad to pronounce the "i" long and the "a" short ).
if i had to make an educated guess based on the kids my children have/had in their respective grades over the years (and the valentine lists that have come home ) i would say that teachers of the current 4th-9th grade crowd would be sick to death of:
emily, ashley (and my god, how many people name sisters with this combination is through the roof ), skyler/schyler/schuler, taylor/tailor confused3 ) or the nicknames sky/schy/tay/tai, tristin/trystin, ronnie (for girls, have yet to encounter a male classmate of my kids who was named ron or ronald) and megan or meagan/maeghan, michaela/michela.
I teach first grade. One year, I had 2 Christopher, 2 Chris, 1 Stephen, 1 Steven, and Ashley, Alyssa and Alicia. . .I was tongue tied and confused all year!!
Geoffrey...who's nickname in HS is Gee- off...many teachers didn't know how to pronounce his name in jr hs and said it that way, he has learned to just go with it.
I also have Karalyn...she hasn't learned to go with the flow yet...but she was THRILLED when a new woman ped joined our MD's group that spelled her name exactly the same. What a bond they have formed due to it!!
dang, i thought my friend was only one who stuck her son with "devin"-and that was just because when she was preggers she was hooked on skanky romance novels
In my dd's kindergarten class there were 4 Aidan's and 2 Katelyn's, and 2 Kaylee's. This was in addition to the similar numbers of Katelyn's and Kaylee's in all of the grades through 8th. It's crazy!
I tried to name my children "real" names but use names which were not terribly common. Now it seems wherever I go someone is calling for their "Samantha" and I just lean over and apologize to my baby!
My daughter's 5th grade class has 4 Sara/Sarahs -- 8.3%. And my daughter's 7th grade class has 3 Rachel/Rachaels -- another 8.3% . And for some reason, most siblings of a Rachel have a Sarah -- I guess if you like one, you like the other!
In our Kindergarten we have 3 Graces -- at least they put one in each of the three classrooms. When my daughter was in 4th grade all 4 Sarah's were in the same room!
