Teachers that are GREAT!

LOL, Pembo! I met DISChick (Jill) at a couple of DISMeets before my son was ever in her class. It was just a coincidence she worked at the same school my older son (3rd grade at the time) was attending (my youngest was in preschool then kindergarten when I met her at meets) and when my youngest entered 1st grade, he got her as his teacher. :) :) :)

My youngest DS has a wonderful Science Teacher. He teaches 7th grade Science and really knows how to relate to kids that age.

My favorite, most inspiring teacher was my English/Comp teacher in High school. She was a beautiful person and I learned a lot more than just writing from her.:D

Kitty34 - that was a beautiful quote - "I learned a lot more than just writing from her". I hope she is aware of this!

Too many times we praise someone to everyone but them! These people need to know that they meant something to us.

I had been thinking about this same thing for weeks now and just last week I wrote and mailed a letter to our school principal thanking her and all her faculty for doing such a great job, the teachers at my dd's school are outstanding ( some have a little weird thoughts at times but it happens with everyone ).
So far all of the teachers my oldest has had have been great , she wrote a letter to her first grade teacher after she was promoted telling her that she would miss her and she loved her more she loved her mom ( me ) , LOL, I thought it was cute and I mailed it to her.
My youngest is in kindergarten this year and she absolutely LOVES her teacher , I have nothing but possitive things to say about them , and I know what they have to put up with ( I volunteer in the school a lot ) so my hat is off to them!

Good for you, mskanga! You seem to be the type of lady that would be right on top of this type of courtesy.

I looked up the staff at my old high school and the only one left was the "fresh out of college" science teacher I had in 10th grade.
I remember him because he videotaped me and two others while we were dissecting frogs to show the "proper way". Ohhh brother! What a memory!

I never went back for a reunion, but sure would like to see what some of the "old gang" look like now. I bet my science teacher lost that long hair years ago - he sort of looked like a blonde Beatle!

rae519- My students are dissecting frogs tomorrow. May I borrow that tape? Please send PD my way. It will be a LONG and smelly day! :teeth:

That was very nice of you, mskanga! :D

My female frog had eggs inside! I do a great cat dissection also!
I don't want to do it again though or on a routine basis!

Enjoy, J&B - the smell of formaldehyde just soaks everything you wear and you come home smelling it for days, but I think you already know that! ; )

Rae

I think you already know that
Unfortunately, I do ! (me at the end of the day)

This year we are trying the formaldehyde free frogs, so hopefully it won't be so bad.

Let us know how it goes! Things have sure changed since I was in school/college!!

Rae

Rae- It went very well. I didn't end the day with a headache, and I didn't have to listen to the kids constantly complain about the smell. Thanks for asking.
:D

Junior Year English:The teacher had us do projects for To Kill a Mockinbird and I was just going to recast the film. She had me take it a step firther and I did a poster for the new film that she kept. She took my love of film and turned me into a student of books into films

HS Choir:I had 2 different teachers but music was and still is a huge part of me.I went from that to karaoke bars and almost making American Idol.

I think that dissection is so vital to their science education. It puts something in front of them that actually shows them the inner workings of muscles, tendons, organs, etc. I am certain that most of my peers reacted badly because of the smell, but the more curious just went on.
I hope that every student has the opportunity to at least see this under supervised conditions, if not participate. Hands on is the best type of learning.

Take care and keep influencing those kids in such a positive manner!

Great days ahead for you!
