You know, I am so tired of reading or even seeing all the complaints about teachrs lately, I figured it is time for the teachers to rant about the parents.

Here is my short list, I am tired of parents who :
do not help kids with homework
do not teach kids manners
do not teach kids to tie shoes
do not dress kids appropriately(make up, mini skirts and tube tops are NOT proper school attire in grade 3 or any other grade)
expect the teacher to provide snack
expect the teacher to provide prizes
expect the teacher to provide deoderant
expect the teacher to teach the girls about their periods
expect the teacher to think it is cute when the child is disrespectful
expect the teacher to MAKE the child behave at home
expect the teacher to provide lunch money (many is the time I get anote from parents give so and so lunch money today and I will pay you back..not even please!)

I could go on and on. IF all these parents think it is so easy to teach I say go for it!!

:p You forgot about the parents that do their kids homework/projects for their kids. Or the parents that send their sick kid to school because they have to work.

Well...I am not a teacher but I am the lunchroom manager and I received a note this week from a parent stating that their child does not like some of the things on our menu and asked if we could subsitite food items that she does like!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you say to that?

How about the parent who thinks the rules should be bent ONLY for his/her child.....

this frustrated me as a teacher and now as a parent-

parents that come in every day before/after school and monopolize the teacher with "small talk" about themselves or their child. sometimes drop off and pick up are the only times parents and teachers can communicate on brief important matters-so give both a break and save the stories about your child's dance recital, soccer team or the hobbie you love that you want to share your latest find in for a personal friend or family member.

p.s.-on the lunch money issue-i loved the schools that eliminated this alltogether and either did a pre-pay or bill later set-up set up.

I am in total agreement there. I wish our school had an ID card that parents could 'load' lunch money on.

I agree with all of the above and here's a new one-

I once had a parent who sent their child in with a macaroni and cheese dinner of some kind and wrote a note asking me if I could microwave it for him!! :confused3 Poor Johnny just didn't like the cafeteria food. Huh?

How about the parents who think their child 'would NEVER, EVER lie'?
Funny that you mention that because I know that my daughter started testing new waters this year and I have caught her on it , I brought it up to the teachers attention at parent/teacher conference and told them that whenever something happens if I ever ask them something is because I am trying to get their side of the story so that I know how to proceed with dd , they looked at me like I had two heads and then I they thanked me for it and they wished more parents would do that.
My kids are not bad kids at all , but I know that with age they will try new things and are not angels.
Fortunately none of the statements the OP made apply to me , I have brought snacks and other stuff to the classrooms , only once the teacher gave her money for lunch ( and it was because someone stole her lunchable for a trip ) but we paid her back. Oh yeah , and we have a health teacher, so that part is her job .....and she does a terrific one too!

I have so many parents who write their students' papers and then get so offended when they earn a C. :rotfl2: It ALWAYS comes out that the mom or dad wrote it.

Although not a teacher, I don't blame you for starting this thread one bit. I'm so tired of all the teacher-bashing that goes on here, and after spending the last five years volunteering at ds's school and listening to the complaints of ds's classmates' parents ("Oh, my sweet Johnny would *never* lie, cheat, hit...!"), I couldn't have more respect for the men and women who are not only teachers, but nurses, psychologists, mediators, banks, referees, nutritionists, etc...the list goes on and on.

There will always be those who are poorly suited for their chosen professions--teachers, doctors, lawyers, whatever--but it disheartens me so to see the generalizations made about teachers, and the Us vs. Them mentality that is often so pervasive both here and IRL.

You all have my utmost respect and admiration--and at times, great sympathy for the unnecessary distractions with which you must deal on a daily basis.

Exactly, and you are way ahead of the game to know this.

I think some parents want their children to be the 'mini model of the better me'...like a second chance to do it right. Their expectations are unrealistic at best.

There are lots of awesome parents out there too! You sound like one of those to me. I agree with you that you just never know what your child will do when they are away from you. I learned that lesson long ago.

yup-one school had what we referred to as "cruiseline dining"-a cashless society on campus. field trips, lunches, snacks, booksales...anything that could entail money was done by prepay or billing. it worked realy well in preventing "lost money" or the vile "gimme your milk money" bullies.

How about the parents that send their kids to school in 40 degree temps. with shorts on & no jacket? Ugghh!

I ask them if mommy saw what they were wearing when they left for school & the reply, "No, she was still in bed."

High school here. I like the ones who supply alcohol/rent hotel rooms for them after the prom.

WHAT????? Oh, please tell me it isn't so! I know...I live with rose colored glasses on but please tell me that this isn't so! Does a parent stay at these hotel rooms with alcohol parties?? What am I asking?? This is soooo wrong! :sad2:

How about the parents who send their children to school sick, because they want them to earn perfect attendance but infecting the rest of the class with a nasty stomach virus??????

Thanks for starting this --I'm sick of the teacher bashing threads too. I'm not a teacher but DH is.
