Another board has a new rumor that Disney Sea's mermaid lagoon may be put in the 20.000 leagues area of fantasyland as part of the 2005 DL celebration. I just dusted off my TDS travel channel tape and am trying to figure out how this would work. The version at TDS looks like a huge indoor complex with several kiddie rides (inclusing a tea cup ride) and a little mermaid show in the air. While it certainly looks great, I don't see how it would fit into MK. I know its just a rumor, but does anyone else out there have any thoughts?

Yes, I have a few thoughts. Although it is nice it imagine that this could happen, this rumor will not come true. I don't believe the Magic Kingdom will receive another large new Fantasyland attraction as part of a Disneyland Anniversary celebration.

I've posted about this earlier when it was first rumored as one the "gifts" - I don't think it would happen; Fantasyland already has a tea cups and spinner, and goofy's barnstormer is right next door, so that is three of the rides. The show building from 20K leagues is probably big enough to hand the indoor part, but there is already a little mermaid show at the studios (better in some ways and not as good in some ways as the TDS show), so I couldn't see them bringing that in. That really doesn't leave much of mermaid lagoon. They may use some of that concept - little mermaid theming for the lagoon - but I don't think they would implement it the way they did in Tokyo.

Mermaid Lagoon, while wonderful, is essentially Fantasyland indoors. Good for those chilly Tokyo days. It would be redundant at DL or WDW. Howver, the Little Mermaid show is truly fanastical and would make an excellent addition stateside.

Actually, Mystic Rhythms at TDS is my fav Disney show ever.

wtg2000, is your Japanese pretty good?

There have been a lot of rumors floating around about the rides to be built for the celebration...although mermaid lagoon would be nice I doubt that Disney would build that now.

I've taken up Japanese since last returning from Japan, so while I know lots of words and can perform the exercises in my book, I haven't had the chance to really use it.

I did meet lots of young Japanese travellers on my trip to Europe last year and got to practice on them, and on a couple CMs at EPCOT last March. They praised me for my pronunciation! However, I get a bit flustered if the conversation becomes too involved. The blank, helpless stare usually gets them speaking English. :)
