I have been reading threads on other forums about transportation issue with WDW busses . .. . so it got me thinking. If we have an ADR at a resort (say Jiko) will a taxi transport a scooter that is portable? My Mom has a Go Go which breaks down (we carry it in my car all the time) but I would need help lifting it in and out. Is this something a taxi driver would help with. I could do without MY scooter (which won't be portable) for a few hours at a resort (it's all day in the park that hurts me) and was thinking on those mornings/evenings we could just spring for a taxi and not worry about getting there on time.

Thoughts?

Taxis all have large trunks. I know that last time I used a rental I had no problem getting an Pride Celebrity-X into the trunk of an Impala.

A Pride Go-Go is very easy. Remove the seat, remove the battery, remove the basket, lock the tiller and fold it down.

To get it in the trunk grab the tiller column near the base with one hand and the handle at the very back with the other; put it in the trunk front end first. Put the seat next to it, either put the battery on the floor of the trunk or on the ECV itself, and the basket anywhere it will fit.

I would expect the driver to assist with both putting in and taking it out; if you did not get assistance the tip would be extremely low (approaching zero).

I can't speak for the taxi drivers around Disney, as we've never had reason to use them. But we just got back from NYC, where we took taxis several times. We had no major problems with Dad's Drive Medical Phoenix 3, which also breaks down easily and fits in the trunk.

The very occasional taxi driver passed us by, and even more rarely one stopped but the driver didn't offer to help. Of the number of trips we made, though, both were rare occurrences.

Since calling for a taxi is almost a necessity here, as opposed to flagging one down, you might mention when you call that you have a travel scooter that breaks down. That way the driver knows what to expect (in NY we did get our fair share of drivers who were flabbergasted that a scooter would actually fit in the trunk).

I don't know the dimensions on the Go Go, but Dad's Phoenix fit in the trunk with two stuffed suitcases and a large backpack. We took the second backpack in the car with us just to be sure, though it probably would have fit as well.

Have a great trip!
