We have always rented a car for our trips to WDW - but for our Christmas trip we are thinking of going via towncar. We will use WDW transpo. for most of our needs, but may use a taxi to go directly from resort -resort (AKL-Poly) and (AKL - WL) --

I was wondering if anyone knew how much Taxi rates are from resort to resort, and if we have our 4 yo son along - would a car seat be available??? Thanks so much!! Jill

WDW is a big place...depending on where you want to go, it can cost anywhere between $10-20 +tip.

Every now and then a cab will have a car seat.

You can have the valet at any resort call a cab for you and request one with a car seat--they will usually be able to accomodate you, but you'll maybe have to wait a little longer.

As far as fares go, here's a genreal idea... (none of these include the tip)

AKL to GF $18
BW to GF $15
MGM to DTD Westside (by Virgin) $8
WL to BC $16

Hope this helps.

I was considering this method. I am racking my brain here debating with taking a town car and use Disney Transportation vs. renting a car.

The car rental rates are very high as opposed to what I used to pay. I have always rented a car because: I like to get to where Im going fast, without waiting.! I dont have my own car at home (stolen ), so I have to add on liability. So the cheapest I can get, from L & M, which doesnt have a good rap, is $234 for the week. All the other car rental agencies are much higher even with discount codes. Its just myself and my son.

Tell me what you all think. If I take a towncar,,thats around $100+. (thats way cheaper than $234). Then on occasion, take a cab to another resort for dinner, other than poly, contemp, GF,,being that Im at WL..I can boat it and monorail it. Ive heard it can takes ages to get from one resort to another w/WDW trans, vs a car takes a few mins. And, this time take WDW transportation. Which I have never done in all my 10 times here. (Except for switching parks on occasion).

So I guess, if I took an occasional cab here and there, Id still be ahead of the game, vs car rental.

Any suggestions..Anyone else out there impatient with waiting and gone this route.
Thanks alot;) ;)

Marge--one other thing to keep in mind--

If you enjoy having a few cocktails or wine pairings with dinner, sometimes it's more convenient to take a cab so that you don't have to worry about overindulging and then driving.

DH and I often take a cab, even if we have a rental car, so that we can freely enjoy a bottle of wine at dinner.

Thanks- The general idea is to use Disney Transpo. most of the time, but going resort to resort after a late dinner is a pain- so taxis would be a better option.

I read somewhere that you should make sure to use "yellow" cabs only because their rates are metered, and some of the others aren't ----But I'm not sure if I remember that coreectly or not- anyone know? Thanks- Jill

If you ask the valet parking people to call you a cab it will always be a metered cab.

Nasmith,

As a mom who has travelled alone with her son for 9 years I can recommend the towncar & taxi combo. For me it was just easier and quicker than the rental car deal - and, I always feel as if my vacation truly does begin the minute I see the driver.

I have never had a problem getting a taxi. On several occasions the valets at GF, YC and AKL offered to drive us themselves. Its really a quick, non stressful way to get "across" the World. We try to use buses and monorail as much as possible but when you've had a great dinner and fireworks at the California Grill (and a glass of wine or two) it is so nice to just go downstairs and get in a taxi and 10 minutes later be in your room.

One thing I have learned is don't be afraid to approach a van style taxi. Same price and they often do have carseats already installed.
