Tattoos.

Leviticus is the 3rd book of the Bible. Right between Exodus and Numbers

I don't like tattoos that cover the whole arm or anything like that, I think those look weird.
I like tattoos that are small and tasteful, they don't look good if they're really big.

I have issues with sleeves.
Mostly because they end too abruptly. If the tattoo flowed a little into the hand, or stopped a little shorter than the wrist, and it didn't stop so abruptly, I'd like them better.
Also because they're just too much.

I didnt say piercings were permanent. I said tattoos are. And yes, I know about laser removal, but that doesnt get rid of it completely. And if you get a tattoo and remove it, then I dont see any harm done.

Leviticus 19:28
''Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD."

^I'm pretty sure that does indeed specify about tattoos.

And yes, you can get ink poisoning when you write on your hands. I didnt say that was a problem. I said that I didnt see writing on your hands as a problem because its able to be completely removed.

KJV doesn't say tattoos though, it says "marks upon you"
i don't trust other translations, sorry.

I know where leviticus is lol.
And I couldn't find anything, but I wasn't about to read the entire thing, or bring my bible down here.

i plan on being a children's art therapist (making more than 100K a year) and i'm not really sure how seriously a potential client would take me if i had a visable tattoo. sad, but true. tattoos are not professional.

now, i would like a tiny one that i could hide, but that meant something to me. i'm thinking about getting a little cartoon eskimo that my dad drew for me on my hip or something. but i'm not sure.

That's why all of mine are in a place they can't be seen unless I mean for somebody to see them. I plan on teaching and most places frown on teachers having visible tattoos (although, my favourite guidance counselor has two and they're on his forearms [and he has fiiiiine arms....mmmm]).

As for people using Leviticus, I have a question. How come every time I argue that things in the Bible just don't make sense today, and some of those quotes are from Leviticus/The Old Testament, I get screamed at saying "But Jesus released us from the laws of the Old Testament in the New Testament!"? So, does it apply in only some cases where those laws can be ignored or what? And I really don't mean to start an argument, I'm just kinda fed up with the flip-flopping I see on this issue.

yeah, my ears are pierced, but you can take ear rings off, you can't take a tatoo off.

and no, I never write on myself.
Piercings are permanent.

So you guys who are mentioning the bible...do you not think for yourselves? I noticed some of you mentioned that you didn't think tattoos were in the bible, so you have nothing against them. Can you not form your own opinions about something?

& I'm with Patti. Why is the old testament okay to quote in some circumstances, but not others?

Part of Leviticus, which contains most of the laws, are referencing to pagan practices. Others are normal laws. Thats where knowledge of the other cultures of that time come into play.

Rules about food, for instance, were because of diseases you can get from them without proper cooking methods.

I will actually not be commenting further on this subject. My knowledge of it all is limited, and I dont want to tell anybody anything wrong.

Piercings are permanent.

No they aren't. I know this for a fact. When I was little, I got my ears pierced. I didn't wear earrings for a while and the holes completely closed. Unless you stretch the piercings, they won't stay forever.

Jenny, people need to base their opinions off of something.
You might not think that is possible, but I believe we all get our "opinions" from someone or something.
You need to have a reason why you believe what you believe.

I am pretty sure with tattoos that back then people used tattoos for religion and they did so with piercings and that is why you weren't allowed to have them. Now they are common things in the society and it doesn't judge you for which religion you are a part of.

This is just my take on the whole situation.

When you're young, the holes close up faster. My mom had her ears peirced about 10 years ago, and even though she never wears earrings, the holes are still there.

I get my opinions off life experience. That's all I'm saying, if I continue I might offend someone.

uhm.
question.

so what if you go out and get like...the jesus fish symbol, or a cross, or something else generally christian to symbolize the great impact god has had on your life as a tattoo on your body? are you still technically "sinning"?

if our bodies are our temples, then i guess you can consider tattoos and piercings decorating.

it depends what kind of tattoo and where...its dumb when people get tatoos that have no meaning behind them..i think if somethings on your body forever ...have it mean something

Oh sonya, you were asking about why I dont plan on getting one. In the Bible, in Leviticus, it says not to make any marks upon our bodies. In many other places in teh Bible, it says that our bodies our temples of the Lord and that we need to honor him with our bodies.

I am totally against tatoos. If God wanted us to have pictures and writting on our boddies, then he would have put it there himself. And I can't stand it when people are covered in them. I think it is really gross and ugly. Anyways, once your old you look really funny with a bunch of tatoos all over you. :)
I agree 100% with these two.

Yep. I found that in the Bible I have. It says the same thing.

For those of you who couldn't find it, maybe look a little more. Its gotta be there.. or your Bible is not written right.

I find that tattoos are really stupid to have on peoples/your bodies. It is a sin against God. I will never own one.

What does "cut your bodies for the dead" mean?

wow.
calling it a sin to get a tattoo is a little much dont you think?

oh no. soon we're going to be petitioning against having a right to get a tattoo because its a "sin" in the bible, right?
