Tattoos on teachers?

Wow. Substitute the bolded word "tattooed" above with gay, black, Mexican, etc. Would you still feel it is acceptable to make gross generalizations like that?

:thumbsup2

What is really sad is that his business is more than likely missing out on some very talented employees.

He was gainfully employed in management at a fortune 500 company till his early retirement. None of the customers nor upper management seemed to think he was trailer trash or "people like that".

And his tattoos still look fine.

So does he wear a suit and they are all covered?

And its amazing that you know what all his customers think!

I simply dont believe this statement-unless they are covered-OR unless the "Fortune 500" company is some hippy-dippy place like Ben & jerry's:lmao:

My relative is in sales in one of the largest employers in our city-no tats, long hair or beards are allowed. Kinda like Disney;)

My previous employer (I had a 12 year career with them) is also a Fortune 500 company on the list you posted. I can tell you without a doubt tattoos and long hair were perfectly acceptable. Also just so we are clear this was a professional company not one of the retail companies listed (not that there is anything wrong with retail..just pointing out the "business world" and well known companies in it have no issue with tattoos).

They only had to be covered if there was nudity or profanity..that's it. I guarantee everyone knows this company and has heard of it and they have been around a long long time but yet they have no issue with tattoos on their employees nor do they have dress code requirements that they be covered. They also had no bans on piercings, gauges, hair length or hair color.

The last retail place I worked seasonally also allowed piercings, tattoos, ear gauges..etc (again..baring profanity/nudity) on all employees.

Can we lose the term "trailer trash"? Sheesh!! :headache:

What a silly comparison:sad2:

Why is that? It's discrimination..just because it isn't race or religion or gender (or sexual orientation) doesn't make it different. It's no different than saying "I don't hire blond haired people" or "I don't hire women".

So does he wear a suit and they are all covered? Not all covered. You can definitely see the ones on his lower arm when he is at work with a Polo on.

And its amazing that you know what all his customers think! Don't know what all his customers think, but he was successful enough to take early retirement in his 50's. That pretty much implies that his most important customers were not turned off by the tattoos. And the fact that he was gainfully employed in a management position for over 20+ years. If his customers were so horrified, he would have been long gone from the company. He is now happily living his retirement, cruising on his Harley. Oh, the horror.

I simply dont believe this statement-unless they are covered-OR unless the "Fortune 500" company is some hippy-dippy place like Ben & jerry's:lmao:Typical. If something doesn't meet one's narrow standards, accuse the person of lying and just dismiss the info, saying they don't believe it rather than having their narrow views challenged. Sorry to disappoint, but it was a respectable high tech company. Not hippy-dippy nor retail. .

My relative is in sales in one of the largest employers in our city-no tats, long hair or beards are allowed. Kinda like Disney;) BIL has a beard too.

Yup. No one would ever know I have a tattoo outside of seeing my in a swimsuit or spaghetti strap or halter top, none of which I'd wear to an interview or to work. I'd bet most people know at least one person that has that "perfect, professional appearance" but also has hidden tattoos or piercings.

Right? I don't see the correlation between tattoos and job performance, and to me, job performance is what matters.

I was just thinking that, except that even in my swimsuit, you can't see my tattoos. Even DH has had fun with people, because they generally think I'm really laced up, quiet, reserved etc., then they find out I have a tattoo, and no, I'm not going to show it to them because that would involve a level of intimacy we don't have.

Im from WV AND I am getting a tattoo in the next couple months. So, that REALLY makes me trailer trash, because we all know people who live in WV live in trailers, have no education and run around bare-footed. :lmao:

I and my DH are both college educated with multiple degrees, work with attorneys with tattoos, and have friends with and without tattoos. We have friends that dont get the whole "tattoo thing" but would never look at us like we were lower class because of them.

Unless a teacher had a pornographic image on themselves that was clearly visible, I wouldn't have a problem. Im sure years ago, in some circles of society, earrings, blue jeans and hair longer than a crew cut used to provide the same heated discussion. Those evil trend setters! :lmao:

I have seen a 50-ish year old woman with lots of tatooes and she looked horrible. It all turns dark green after several years and it is not a pretty sight.

I still feel Tats are a lower class phenom-no matter how polite and nice you are, if you have "ink" you are regarded by many as , to put it nicely, "trailer trash" and I wouldnt want a teacher with Ink.

So, what does your tattoo look like?

Don't forget that "you people" don't have a full set of teeth, either. Just sayin...:rolleyes1

;)

Swan4me, Art1 & thomas998 should start their own club.

I thought that was only in Kentucky! :lmao:

Which reminds me...my mom went to Canada on vacation when she was around 10 or so. The sales clerk, upon hearing that they were from Ky, came out from behind the counter to look at their feet, because she had always heard that people from Ky don't wear shoes. :rotfl:

Busybodies who call and complain about a swim teacher having a visible tattoo are associated with the "people who have too much time on their hands and need to mind their own business" class. Just the way it is.

Seriously, you called and complained about a SWIM TEACHER with visible tattoos. This person likely only does that part time and a swim suit doesn't really leave much space to have concealed tattoos. I would imagine it's difficult for the Y to find qualified teachers who want to put up with all the issues associated with teaching kids to swim, much less their annoying parents.

:thumbsup2

Well that solves the who wears their shoes in the house argument I always see on the cb lolz.

Yes I did. I didn't think it was appropriate for a swimming instructor to be have tattoos in odd places while instructing young girls. I was thanked and told that there were others who called.

I own business and have never hired a tattooed person and don't plan on it. The people that I deal with and who are paying us the amount of money that we bill out don't want that kind of people around.

Every choice we make has consequences. When you tattoo yourself you are setting yourself up for judgement and the possibility of hurting yourself job wise. Just the way it is, right or wrong.

How do you know that you've never hired anyone who has tatts? Some of us keep them hidden.

Not Wal-Mart :rotfl:

My DH has a beard:)

But, the relative I was speaking of, his company is more straightlaced all employees are clean cut "preppy" looking, if you will, and beards, any facial hair , tats, piercings are big no-no's.

So is stripping down naked so you can see that a person doesn't have a shamrock tattooed on their ankle mandatory?
