I have 3 of them... and it's funny because they way people perceive me, no one can believe I have them. My husband HATES them - but they were before we were married (no ones names - LOL! He just hates the sharks I have...)

He just hates the sharks I have...)

Ok, I don't have any yet. In a couple weeks I will be 42 and I am getting myself a present as my 1st tattoo. Actually it will be a Hawaiian Sea turtle, but then I am planning on getting a shark tattoo.

Long story, I was supposed to do a snorkel tour with Stuart Cove's dive operation. But my DM fell and broke her hip, so I am going next year and after I do that, then I will get my shark tattoo.

The Honu is going to represent my first vacation in Hawaii visiting friends and that turtles represent patience, which I have had to have this year in so many ways. Then when I get the shark one, that will represent me doing the snorkel trip looking down seeing Caribbean reef sharks feeds and that like shark, I have survived alot.

Anyway, you really didn't want to know all that, but what kind of shark tattoo do you have?

I do not have a tattoo, but my 17 year old daughter obtained one illegally. In PA, a parent does not have to be present (like some other states), but one does need to be 18. She was NEVER carded. I was FURIOUS when I found out. It's right on the back of her neck, so I cringe more that she didn't get it in a place that could be hid with clothing (aside from a turtleneck, but does anyone even wear them?).

The law in PA states the tattooer will be fined $100 IF they give a minor one without parental consent. It doesn't matter if it's the first offense against the tattooer or the 100th. It's still a $100 fine. That infuriates me because I fully believe the penalty should become must stiffer as the citations are racked up. Not so though!

There are many jobs that mandate no visible tattoos allowed (a lot of times they allow you to cover them). While I have nothing against tattoos per say, I don't think a minor understands what the possible repercussions might entail and it infuriates me to no end that some in that business only care about the $ they'll receive. If, as an adult, you're willing to suffer any consequences that may come along with these tattoos, I say more power to you if that's what you want to do. I don't think you have the right to cry foul however if something like this were to keep a company from hiring you (and I'm not trying to suggest no one would hire someone with visible tattoos, I'm just saying, it could end up being a consequence in certain circumstances). Most minors wouldn't even give it any consideration before obtaining one and they can cost upward to 50K to remove, but that would be worst case scenario. Easily however, any removal will be in the thousands.

I have 3 (all Disney, all 13 years old, all well done) and I cannot wait to get them lasered off.

Everyone and their dog has a tattoo now. It will be expensive and painful, but I am going to start the process in 2010.:headache:

Tattoos really have no boundries. People of all ages, races, religions and socio economic backgrounds have them. Some are definitely more tasteful than others. I have three and will be 44 in June. All three represent an important time in my life. I do have them in places where they can be covered for corporate professional reasons though:)

You're absolutely right! I was a minor when I got mine and I have regretted it ever since. I have wanted it off for years but haven't gotten around to budgeting for laser removal.

I cover mine up every day that I work. Every day I am reminded of my stupidity as a teenager!

I don't have any. Its against my religion (at my old synangogue we were not allowed to write on our hands or arms even as reminders....i always wrote on my hands and arms so i would remember stuff adn I had to remember to wash it off before hebrew school...kind of made it pointless...lol)
None of my friends or family members have tatoos. I dont know...I just dont unerstand the point to them

Just a question, not meant to offend or anything, but why don't you want them anymore? Is it just because they are becoming so popular? Or you don't like the designs? I was just curious.

My husband had a tattoo he got when he was 16 that was horrible. Just a mess. He got a coverup on it, but it's in a very visible spot. He's not going to laser it off or anything, but he definitely regrets where he got it placed.

My daughter has a small red heart on her hip, she got it done when she was in her early 20's.

My son has a large ram with red eyes on his arm, and the words (in Italian) "to thine own self be true", he got it just last summer, he's 33.

My son-in-law has a large masculine angel with his son's baby picture on one upper arm, he is going to have the same thing done on the other arm with his daughter's picture.

I would love a small tatoo on my shoulder, but too chicken to do it. :(

I have a couple, I guess you could say 3. The first 1 I got was when I was 17- legally, my dad took me, it's a cherub with my brother's name, date of birth and date of death under it, it's on my left shoulder. The next 1 I got at 18, it's the Scorcerer's Apprentice Mickey on my right outer ankle. Then I have 1 in process, it's a full back tat. I have a bare tree going up my entire spine (kinda a weeping willow) with branches coming out both sides and 2 fairies sitting in them 1 on each side of my back. I incorporated my cherub into the design as well.

When it's completed, I'll have a bed of orchids and lillies going across my lower back like a field scene with butterflies and dragon flies, maybe a couple of other things, my 2 DDs names will be on the sides by each fairy, going up my ribcage. In between my shoulder blades will be some type of wording, not entirely sure what it will say but will be like a memorial from my brother to his 2 neices. (something like forever watching over you- so if anybody has any ideas, send them my way!) And the tree will just be shaded, no coloring.

All of my tats have been pretty thought out, I'm 27 and I can honestly say that I don't regret any part of any of my tats.

Just about everyone I know has at least 1 tat, most have multiple, even my mom has 2 small ones and she's in her 50's.

Not offended at all.
I would say that it's 51% that they're soooo popular now and 49% that I'd like to be able to wear a cute dress without showing them. The one on my stomach doesn't look so good after 2 kids, but the ones on my back and ankle (Rafiki and the Fox and the Hound respectively) look great. And I still love them. I'm just tired of them.

Yes, I have a tattoo on my right ankle on the outside. I got it the November after I turned 18 in July. I completely regret doing it though. It's like my body is tarnished :(

I am fine with anyone having whatever tattoo they want, as offensive as it may be too but I really wish I didn't get one now :sad1:

Oh well, maybe I'll get it removed one day but no hurry, it's not a bad tattoo... if it was a tramp stamp though, that would be a different story, I'd have that removed right away!

I absolutely LOVE my tramp stamp and do not regret it at all. I got mine before they were called that but now I think it's hilarious and I say it all the time. LOL My BFF has one too, same place but different design. She loves hers too but regrets that her old BFF got the same design in the same place, she wishes hers was more unique, as mine is. :) I do think that no one should get inked until they are in their late 20s or 30s tho, it's easy to chose something when you are younger that you will regret later. I got mine at 31, I'd planned it for about 2 years and 7 years I absolutely love it and do not regret it. :)

Not yet, but I turn 45 next week and intend to get the one I planned to get for my 40th but let DH talk me out of. DH and I had discussion last night. He is still not real 'okay' with it, thinks it is 'white trash'. That is until I reminded him that he dips snuff and IMO that is about as white trash as it comes. That shut him up;)

:lmao: snuff is definitely more "white trash" then a tattoo....:rotfl2: :thumbsup2

I HATE them.

I don't have any. I'm not opposed to them or anything, I'm just a huge chicken and am scared of needles. :) Heck, I fainted when I got my upper ear cartilage pierced. :lmao: I have friends with tattoos, though. They are much braver than I am. :)

I hate needles too, I have my belly button, my tragus and my cartiledge all pierced and my tat took about 2 hours to do. :) It's not like getting stabbed by a needle, it has a different feel to it. Just so you know. :)

I have 3 and most of my friends all have at least one. Of course, my DH was in a heavy metal band for years so most of our friends are from that scene, thus tattoos go with the territory.

I work in the music industry, almost everyone I work with has at least one. :) I think maybe 3 or 4 people in my office don't have one....LOL

I'm 42 and have 3 of them.....I love all of them. :goodvibes

I took my DD18 to get her first one a few days before she started college. She has a peace sign on her foot...easily covered...

I know a lot of people that do (some of them look great and some of them look trashy), but I'm a rebel;), I don't like to conform with the masses. So I don't have one. I like my skin just the way it is.

Pretty much everyone I know has them, except me and my BFF- we both just never had the urge. DH has quite a few.:goodvibes

Thanks for your reply! I avoided my stomach for that very reason and am glad I did! I almost got a side rib cage tattoo and am so glad that I didn't as they're becoming the new tramp stamp. Another fad I'm glad I didn't follow!

::yes:: you go sista.

How are you sure they didn't card her? Obviously, you know your daughter better than i do, but i can totally see myself telling my mom that they didn't card me, to save someone else from getting in trouble, or to hide a fake ID or something...just sayin.

that's sweet.

i'm 23, and nearly all of my friends have at least a small tattoo. A lot of them have sleeves or their entire backs covered.

i just have one right now, simple angel wings on my back that i got when i was 18. i want to get something representing the devilish side of my as well, but i don't know what. i also want one of my artsy-fartsy friends to design something with my & my brother's initials in it.

i just don't have the money to devote to more tattoos right now...i'd rather get, say, a designer handbag or something. My materialism will save me from so many destructive behaviors.

I do believe that she told me the truth, but what reinforces my belief is that it's ILLEGAL to tattoo a minor. He couldn't have possibly carded her or he wouldn't have given her a tattoo. Giving her a tattoo was a criminal act and while I believe he was fully negligent, I do not believe he was aware that she was a minor. While I think he should be carding anyone under the age of say maybe to 25 (you can't always tell by looking at some people), I'm sure he didn't knowingly break the law because he could have been fined $100 (and she said the tattoo cost $50, but we live in a small town, so I don't know if that's cheap or the going rate). It was a heart on the back of her neck, but it isn't colored in and it has some other little arrows or something on it. I didn't really look at it too hard because I'm still upset about it all, but it's not a small heart. She's a small girl (105 pounds), but it covers almost the entire back of her neck.

My gosh, a minor can't even buy glue without being carded anywhere. Yet someone giving tattoos isn't even as responsible as a 18 year old checking you out at Walmart?

Oh and she did lie to me initially. She told me one of her friends knew someone who did tattoos and she went to his house and he did it there. I was FURIOUS!!! I mean, I was so mad that I literally had the phone in my hands ready to call the police. I told her that it was a procedure that needed to done in a sanitary environment and the risk to the public's health is much too great to ignore something like that.

She finally broke down and told me then.
