Target vs Walmart

Well, if you had asked me this question a month ago, it would have been a very firm Target. However, they have messed up my last two online orders and I am out $50, so at the moment, I am considering never shopping there again. I am not fond of Walmart, but at least when there was a problem with an order I wasn’t left holding the (empty) bag.

I rarely shop at either. Maybe it’s the ones by me but they are not an enjoyable shopping experience. The ones by me are chaotic, have hardly any product on the shelves, some things are locked down so you have to find an employee, and the stores are dirty.

We go to Walmart. There are three nearby and one of them definitely stands out over the other two. They actually have clear aisles and numerous cashiers. We find their prices to be much less than Target and better stocked.

I was shocked to visit a Target near my daughter recently. The aisles were full of clothing just piled up and tipped over boxes in other areas of the store. Management there should be fired. Seriously, it was terrible and in a small town location so not over run with shoppers like a city could be.

We got to Target a couple times a month but never go to Walmart. Most of our grocery shopping is done at Costco and supplemented by Whole Foods and Trader Joes.

Target > Walmart

I have done a bit of pick up purchases lately with them.

I went into Walmart for the first time this year looking for a fall Ghirardelli chocolate they said they had. :sad2: Time wasted, but the employee who helped me was nice just didn’t know why his device showed 35 packages but not one on the shelf.

All that said, Kroger and Costco beat both of them.

Truthfully….I rarely go to either of them.
But, if I need to go, normally it’ll be WalMart because of the prices.
I always say - I don’t like WalMart, but I like WalMart’s prices

At least here in California that is a huge issue as they no longer arrest or prosecute people who steal less than $950 worth of merchandise. And that is at every store. I went into Bevmo to buy a bottle of my wife's favorite wine, website said they had six bottles. I found none. Employee checked their inventory and it too said six bottles. His reply, clearly someone shoplifted those six bottles because they aren't here and weren't scanned at the checkstand.

Target by far although I should add that the Walmart closest to me is the smallest Walmart I’ve ever seen. The only groceries are non perishable items. It is old, rundown and not that clean. I occasionally stop at larger Walmarts when I happen to be near one and those are generally better. I still vote Target.

A former co-worker with 3 teenaged sons said the same thing. He could afford NOT to shop at Walmart. He wasn't a fan of Costco either, but shopped there too, but Walmart was quicker for picking up a few things in the middle of the week.

We do not have a Walmart in my area so only go to one once in a while when we visit the mall about 30 minutes away so mostly visit Target.

There’s no doubt we have shoplifters in my area, but I think it was clearly in the back and not stocked. In my area you can’t just swipe it and leave without consequences.

I’m really sick of seeing the mass shoplifting though. It’s infuriating nothing happens. :sad2:

The Walmart closest to me is astonishingly poorly managed.

Sometimes I think they don't restock an aisle until everything on the aisle has been sold. I don't mean all of one item, but all items.

Five minutes further down the road is a much better managed Walmart.

I'm not particularly obsessed with either one. Target is nicer and often has nicer products, but Walmart usually has the better deals. I say usually because our 65" tv is a Target Black Friday deal. I won't grocery shop at either one. Target just never carries enough and is grossly overpriced and Walmart's store brand quality is unreliable. After a long break, I just gave them a try and the milk was funky, the orange juice was awful, and they were out of a number of basics...like hot dog buns.

Mostly Target, but Walmart is a little cheaper. I go into Walmart every once in a while. When I go, it’s usually mid-week in the morning. It’s quiet then.

Avoid Wal Mart like the plague. Target on occasion. More recently since my grandson was born 16 months ago. Even then it’s usually curbside.

I’m a Texan so 100% of groceries come from H‑E‑B. Rarely go inside there too since curbside arrived in 2019.

Target is for one particular cleaning item every now and then where I pick up other stuff when I am in there otherwise it is needlessly overpriced. Went yesterday & stocked up on the compostable cleaning wipes I like.

Walmart is great for packaged household stuff like cleaning stuff, paper goods, toiletries, OTC medicines & any boxed or canned foods like canned veggies, Halloween Candy and crackers. Picking up a few things curbside today.

Raw items like meat and produce are from entirely different places.

I know I could save money by shopping at Walmart, but I cannot stand to go to our Walmart. It's dirty, it smells, and there is never anyone to help you. I go to Target for eye exams and eyeglasses.

Could you not dispute it? I've never had a problem with customer service at Target. Once they only gave me one of an item when I paid for two and they refunded me.
