Target Red Card - still save 10% on 1st purchase?

Anyone know? This *used* to be their promo, but anyone know if it still is offered? We have a big ticket purchase coming up and would love to know.

We just got back from Target from making a large purchase. We signed up for the credit card to get the discount, but it was only 5%.

So can somebody break this down for me? I think I understand that this links to my debit/bank account directly but gives me 5% off every purchase- am I getting this right? Please break this down on a kindergarten level... Sometimes I need all the detail I can get! Thanks!!

You are correct. The Target Red Debit card is linked to your checking account and every time you use it for a purchase, they will take 5% off that purchase. So, if your purchase is $100 and you swipe your Red Debit Card to pay, the new amount will be $95 and this is what is deducted from your checking account.

Target also offers a Red credit card.

Also you can link it to your childrens school if you have any and they give 1% of your purchase to the school.

Interesting. Thanks for the info! Do you have to apply for/take both their debit and credit cards or can you take one or the other? (Already have a debit card I like, so not looking for another...) Do you get the 5% off on all purchases when using the credit card too, or just the debit? To me, the Target website is somewhat less than clear about all of this...you DIS folks are the best - thanks for your help!

the discount works on either, I have the Credit card only. You still get the same 5% discount on all purchases except Target GiftCards and prescriptions.
