Target In-Store Photography?

Unless you see a sign, shoot first and ask questions later. If you shoot first, you may get a great shot. If you ask first, you won't even have the opportunity for the first shot.

The worst they can do is ask you not to take photos or ask you to leave.

retail stores have been known to toss shoppers out for writing down prices. I'd definitely call and get permission from the manager before taking a camera larger than a cell phone in a store.

I don't know about Target, but I know Ikea does not allow photography in the store :(

The displays at Target ARE pretty sweet! I hope your venture is successful!

:scratchin wonder if they can ban you for life from Target like WDW is rumored to do? Walmart lifetime banning wouldn't be much of a loss to me, but from Target? that might just make me rethink my position on the topic:rotfl2:

The Store I used to work (that has been mentioned above) at did not allow photos to be taken in the store for a variety of reasons but the main one was security as there was an issue where a group had taken pictures of different electronic displays so they knew how to quickly violate the displays to take the items... After that it no more photos were allowed anywhere as its far easier to say NONE vs well its okay in housewares but not electronics... Or how do you allow one person to take artistic pics and tell someone taking pics that may not have all to innocent motives not to?

they most certainly can, and I've heard of photographers being banned from malls for doing photography there,, so I'd be cautious :thumbsup2

Okay- This information is golden. Now just tell me how can I convince my wife to stroll through the mall with a couple big DSLR's and a Tripod?

Really? I have never had an issue at Ikea and never seen a sign saying no photography. My husband HATES wandering around looking at rooms, so I go by myself, take pictures of all the rooms and come home and ask him to pick which couch he likes, which table he likes, blah blah blah.

My iphone is full of photos of Ikea rooms. Never brought my Nikon, so maybe I don't stand out.

Went to Target tonight and got some shots. We were only there about 20 minutes, and will probably go back again in a couple weeks.

I'll be posting the images from the photo walk in the "photo assignment" thread for Nov/Dec.

Congratulations! :thumbsup2 You DID IT!

You've given me confidence to try this at my own local Target! :)
