Target cancelled my order

I bought a Target gift card at my local Safeway to get the fuel rewards and then proceeded to use the gift card online to get the 5% off Disney gift cards. The next day I received an email that my order was cancelled. After a couple of calls to figure it out I was told that it was cancelled because I used Target gift cards instead of my red card. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I just try to order again hoping it will go through? I've done this before and haven't had any problems.

I suggest just calling and asking. Are you sure you received a 5% discount? I have never seen a discount applied when GC are used, only your Redcard.

This. You wouldn't get 5% off if you're using a gift card.

I would try again. I use target GC on target.com to order disney GC and get 5% off all the time. I just placed an order 2 days ago and it hasn't been canceled. Place another order and see what happens.

You do get the 5% off when using gift cards if a Target card is saved as your default payment method, whether you use it or not. I bought a $50 Disney card last month and the discount came off without a problem. I paid with $30 in Target gift cards and $17.50 was charged to my Target debit card.

I have also gotten the full 5% off when paying completely with Gift Cards online (but not in stores.) You just have to have the red card set as your primary payment method on your account. However, it's been a couple of months since I did it.

OP: That is very strange. I think I would try it again and just see what happens.

Update: tried again last night and got an email this morning that my order was cancelled again. Hoping Target doesn't stop this entirely and I'm the only unlucky one. Good luck for everyone else.

Sounds like they are working on closing one or more of the following loopholes:
- Buying a gift card with a gift card
- Getting the 5% redcard discount on non-Target gift cards
- Getting the 5% redcard discount online even if you don't use your redcard for the purchase

It'll be interesting to sort out which one(s) they are closing...

This happened to me several months ago -- since then I've made sure to put at least .01 on my red card and the rest on the gift cards. Since then I've ordered well over $3k in cards and haven't had any issues.

Are you trying to pay for the Disney GCs completely with Target GCs? That might be where the problem is arising.
I would be tempted to give this a try to see if it is a glitch or something new, but I don't need any Disney GCs right now and I'm reluctant to spend $50 just to find out. :rotfl:

Have you tried this OP? Keep us updated and let us know if you find a way to get it though. I am glad you have kept us in the loop though. Sounds like Target is trying to close the loophole like another poster pointed out!

I would imagine they are trying to close the loophole/glitch of receiving the redcard discount when the redcard is not being used only defaulted. I have to wonder if that was the reason they were taken offline for a week last week.

I did buy enough to pay off my trip last week in store and can verify that the 5% was still applicable to the Disney gift cards in store when using the red card.

I had just the opposite experience...

Yesterday, I went to Target and bought a $140 Target gift card using my PayPal Debit card. This will net me a $1.40 rebate from PayPal.

Then, I used my Ebates app on my phone to access the Target website. **I KNOW THAT GIFT CARDS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A REBATE**, but it was the easiest way to access the mobile website. I ordered $150 in Disney gift cards and used the $140 Target gift card to pay for them. The 5% RedCard discount was applied and I used my RedCard for the other $2.50.

Imagine my surprise when I got a push notification from Ebates that I had just earned $3.75 cash back for my purchase at Targetpixiedust:.

I got an e-mail today from Target that says my order has shipped so everything worked out pretty well for me:goodvibes.

:cheer2: I'm going to try it your way!

Another update: ordered gift cards with my spouse's account and made sure to charge a small amount to my red card and it went through fine.

I would worry that skirting their rules by putting a penny on your red card and the rest on gift cards could further risk the discount on gift cards. They have already taken it off the Black Friday discount and off the pharmacy rewards 10% discount.
There is not supposed to be a discount when paying with gift cards--only paying with your redcard.
Continued abuse could cause them to take away the 5% discount left.

I think that calling it abuse is a bit harsh. It's more like a loophole that people exploit to their own advantage. If Target determines that it is a real problem, they will close the loophole by refining the software for their online store. They must be aware of it, because it works on ANY purchase made at Target .com that involves partial payment with a GC coupled with a Target CC. Maybe they choose to look the other way because the loss is so small. Or perhaps it's just taking an extremely long time to modify their code.

I don't see where the benefit is to them if you use a Target gift card to buy a Disney gift card, they lose 5%. If you use your Target Red Card to get a Disney gift card, they are hoping that there might be interest on the transaction.

I use the Target Red debit card, so there is no interest they collect. It comes straight out of my checking account.
