tanning..

What I recall from reading up on the SPF debate was not so much "gimmick", but an analysis that there was no incrementally additioanl effective protection gained from any SPF over 15 compared to SPF 15. That said, DW, who is a sucker for marketing, buys 30 so we tend to use 30. One less thing for me to fight with her about, I've save it for something important.

That's not true. There's a girl on our block who is so very fair, red-headed, that it's actually very dangerous for her to be in the sun too long -- her doctor has prescribed a special sunscreen for her, and if I remember correctly it was over 70 SPF.

To answer the question with my personal view, no you should not pretan. Your goal on the cruise should be to wear a good sunscreen product and come home with as little color as posible. Changes to the skin.....either "tan" or "burn" are both signs of damage to the skin. It is inevitable that in the Caribbean sun for 7 days that you will get some sun. No use in compounding the damage by exposing yourself ahead of time.

Actually, the "spray" tan is extremely unhealthy and might soon be banned. We recently discountinued this service in our Spa.

I did the spray tan last year and it came off for days on my underwear. It was a mess. Did anyone else have this problem?

I agree....it absolutely is your choice.

I earned every bit of my Stage II Melanoma. I have now what my husband and I lovingly refer to as "the shark bite" on my lower cafe (the spot was smaller than the size of a pencil head tip) but they took a chunk that required 20 staples to close and they took 4 lymphoids from my groin area also.

I blame no one but myself. I laid in the sun knowing that it caused Skin Cancer including the most deadly type Melanoma. I am the mother of two very young girls and my surgeon told me, "listen, would you rather have this scar or have your children motherless." Definitely put things in perspective for me :flower:

I definitely enjoyed laying in the sun and being tanned but it I'm not sure it was worth what I got from it. I think I will try the spray on tan for my cruise in 4 weeks!

Take care
