Cheapy cheapy trip- fingers crossed! Welcome to my Pre-trip report! My first ever attempt at a PTR ( I made a sad attempt a doing a report on our last DL trip but failed)
The What:
A February ultra-cheap trip to the wonderful Disneyland! Would look to fly to LA Feb 6 and return feb 12- this is due to the super discount Allegiants flight schedule. No matter what way I work it, the Allegiant flight plus hotel room package is just so much cheaper than everywhere else- we are talking under $1200 for the three of us for flight and 6 nights hotel- you just cant beat that. Want to be within walking distance, but still keep the cost down. Flights only are $504, so hotel cost is $625 everything in for 6 nights- not sure I can beat that anywhere else close.
The Where:
Speaking of the hotel- if this happens it will more than likely be the ever unpopular on the Disboard Castle Inn and Suites- we stayed there on our last Disney trip and you know what- it was just fine! They have done renos since so it can only be better. We are just sleeping there.
The Why:
Does there have to be a why for a Disney trip? Heck no! However in this case there is we have been wanting to get to DL to see Carsland for years now and it simply just hasnt worked out- OH went back to school, lost my job (got a better one), bought a new bigger house, OH got sick, all very good reasons of course. We have been longing to go. Well this summer DD10 started school late as the teachers here were on strike, we ended up getting a $500 payment from the government to help with childcare etc which has got me thinking- what about putting that money towards something special, rather than simply including it in the usual however OH and I just took a vacation in August, and we arent really due to spend money on a vacation again for a while- so I got creative- I took a look at the main costs and what would be the minimal price points for each- and where else the money could come from- if this trip is going to happen I would like it to come from other funds ie money that is generated not from our regular accounts.
Also, I want to teach DD10 the value of saving towards something- her other DL trip was a surprise, and although that was awesome and fun (we drove in the night and woke her up at the airport!) I would like her to be a part of this and learn about saving/putting money away towards something.
The How:
Discussed above, but:
Approx costs/plan:
Gas to Bellingham: $100
Hotel/Parking: (good old cheap and cheerful Comfort Inn) $120
Flight and Hotel Package: $1150 (6 nights)
Transportation from LAX: $100 (Disneyland express, kids ride free)
Tickets: 2 from Airmiles, 1 at $305 (we have Airmiles that are sitting around as its so hard to get flights, so why not buy DL parkhoppers!)
So before spending/food money we are at Just under 2K- not bad for a week vacation to Disney for 3
I have developed a spreadsheet with 3 columns of where the 2K would come from (the spending/food Im not counting as if we were home we would have to eat anyways- we will bring breakfast stuff and then do CS/a nice TS or two)
So:
$500 from the teachers strike (done!)
$750 from other savings (ie if I get gift cards from work for xmas (selling them), not eating out, putting our xmas money from OHs grandma to the trip, that sort of thing)
$750 from selling wedding stuff/stuff/horse tack we no longer need/use- there are local FB pages which have been great for this- already at almost $200 and just started
However
I am really hoping this trip is going to be a go- there are two main reasons why it may not financial of course, and more importantly I am waiting on an appointment for surgery on my ankle- I will know hopefully what the plan is in the coming weeks- all this planning could come to a crashing halt should surgery wield its ugly head. It's a Catch 22 however as I really need this surgery.
Coming next- The Who! (And will get some pictures into this baby!)
