So my brother called me today and reminded me that about a year ago I mentioned to his wife that when their lab had puppies Id like to have one. Yes I remember that conversation but I plead insanity at that time. So now he tells me that he save me 2 black males to choose from. How can I say no? Our last dog died over a year ago (black lab) and Ive been missing him ever since. The kids and DH have been begging me. My head is saying now is not the time with the house on the market and everything else going on, but my heart is saying go ahead and take this puppy. So please help me decide. Should I take it or not?

Well, if you are looking for advice on whether you should get a puppy from strangers on a message board, you probably shouldn't get one...

NO!!
It takes away all your spur of the moment trips. You have to walk a puppy ALL the time!
And they are expensive

(by the way I have 2 dogs and almost got a third- so I am full of baloney- One is a yellow lab and she is really the best dog in the world. So loyal and adorable. I really think she would save our lives if given the opportunity. The frenchie,on the other hand- not so much. But she is cute.

Well don't get one if you don't want to wake up and see their cute little squishy puppy face smiling up at you. And also don't get one if you don't want to cuddle with the sweet little things and play with them either and watch them run and get excited when you come home from work and sleep at the foot of your bed and chase away bad guys.

Man, I'm no help at all! :rotfl:

DO NOT just have a look at them. If you look at them you will not be able to resist. They are like a drug especially the little labs. You will get hooked. If you get one however post the picture. I love labs.

You'll be vaccuuming constantly if you get the puppy. You'll probably be the one potty-training him too. And then there's all that teething.

It doesn't sound like the time is right. If your house is on the market, how tough will it be housebreaking the pup and crating and all the fun that goes with it. Love dogs and we have been talking about getting another, but the time jsut isn't right.

It is so hard being responsible :headache:

I just love labs so you shouldn't ask me. I need a daily dose of lab kisses. :lovestruc

My heart just melted. She was an adorable puppy!

No, no no no no.

Teething, biting, whining, crying, waking up all hours of the night. Buying all the stuff, crate training, realizing that YOU will be doing all the work involved because the kids will help for a while and then it will be boring. Potty training.

It's like having another (furry slobbery) baby. It's great, but you always underestimate how much work it is, because you remember all the good stuff and not all the yucky stuff.

And they are so cute when they are puppies, but that's an evolutionary advantage dogs have developed to get you hooked because you just can't resist their sweet little faces and puppy breath, and next thing you know- WHAMO, they have grown up and have taken over your couch. pretty genius, really. That's what my dog did. ;)

Stay strong!

but if you can't stay strong, post pictures! :rotfl:

:dogdance: :dog2: :dog: :dogdance: :dog2: :dog: You're getting a puppy! :yay: Have a name picked out? Come on you know you are.::yes::

I'm no help, I'm getting a puppy for my puppy :lmao: We lost our old dog a few weeks ago and our 9 month old puppy is so lonely, so we are getting him a sister, she was just born last week so it will be awhile before we bring her home.

Honestly, it will be a lot of work, especially with your house on the market, but if you have the time and patience, the love and joy it will bring will be worth it.

Crap. Why did you all have to post those pictures???? Why oh why, ive resisted this for over a year!!!

Sigh...my kids are both begging me and DH is no help at all, he wants one worse than they do.

Well from what DB tells me the 2 left are solid black. The mother is a beautiful black lab and the father he tells me is just as gorgeous and solid black. I guess im sunk huh. :rotfl:

Well they wont be ready to leave the momma until after next week. I best be getting some supplies if im going to do this. crap crap crap crap why does my heart always win out over my head?

We nearly didn't buy the house we have now because the previous owners had a yappy dog shut in the laundry room and a yard full of poop to go with it! Seriously, as cute as puppies are I think I'd wait until after the house closes. It's hard enough to keep it show-ready without trying to do that AND housebreak a puppy.

I did not read all the replies so forgive me if this has been said...

a puppy pees on the carpet and needs lots of time and attention. It will sense your stress and make training harder. There are many puppies...wait until the timing is right:)

The market is slow...Lab puppies are so cute!:goodvibes
So what if he soils the carpet...you will be moving!:rotfl:

it sound like the house is on the market so that means a lot of additional cleaning for a showing and could turn off a potential buyer. That's a big risk in this market.

I agree that labs are soooo cute though!
