Like the title says. Considering going alone to DL and love characters. Is there always a handler nearby to take your picture. I know most of the time there is, but don't know with roaming characters and characters without a Photographer.

If the character is at a designated M&G spot, there usually is a CM (PhotoPass or not) to take a photo with your camera or phone. If you bump into a character alone, usually another guest will be glad to take your photo. We've done that for other guests.

Whenever I have gone to DL by myself, I find it more fun to take pictures with the characters. they seem more friendly and give you more poses for the pictures that you take with them. Their is usually always a handler with them. If the are walking from one spot to another, it is a little harder and the handler will tell you so. But if they are stationary for an extended period of time, the handler is always more then willing to help you out or another Disney enthusiast is willing to help.

I frequently encounter characters without handlers, especially in town square when they can have 4-5 characters out at a time but usually only 2 handlers. I've never had an issue asking the people behind me in line to take the picture. Sometimes they've asked me to take theirs too or everyone just takes the person in front of them as the line progresses. When there's that many characters in that situation, you can just choose the lines that do have a handler.

I'm more worried about having no one to take my photo around the park, with characters there's always someone happy to help out, whether it be a handler, someone behind or in front of you in the queue etc :)

Just ask someone. I take pics for people all of the time. There are Photopass people at the Mickey floral, the castle and usually at the partners statue, so start there. Also, if you're there before the end of the 60th, there are the photo ops, which will either have a photographer or people hanging around that you can ask. In DCA there will be photographers in Carsland, and most likely at the storytellers statue, get those pics. There are also 60th photo ops in DCA that will either have a CM or plenty of other guests.

Thanks for your answers. I just booked flight and (h)motel. I think it will work out :)

Oddly enough, I did this yesterday on the Mark Twain. I asked a fellow guest to take my pic -- I've never had anyone refuse to help. They're always very accommodating.

Hope you have a great time! Solo trips can be a blast. For me, I almost always see someone with a Cubs/Bears/Blackhawks T-shirt or hat, which makes striking up a conversation easy.

It can be fun to take selfies with characters too (if you're into that sort of thing). We've done this with all sorts of characters and have had great reactions.

There's usually someone around you can ask (either a CM or another guest). If not, I've been known to take a selfie.

Just don't bring a selfie stick! Also, if you ask a fellow guest to take your photo, ask them to shoot several. We usually shoot 3 or 4 (digital only -- on rare occasions with film, we always ask first) to make sure that at least one shot will be a winner.

We have experienced this a few times. You can either

1. Selfie - sometimes these are fun
2. Ask someone to take the photo for you - you're never the only one in line and most people are so happy to help. I always offer to take their photo. Even if they have a family, I ask if they'd like a group photo. So often one person always gets left out of the pictures.

That's why God created the selfie!!! (See avatar) While I'm sure there are better cameras to get a full body shot, nothing is as much fun as a selfie with Donald.
