taking food on the plane?

Hi All,

Stupid question alert...

Are you allowed to take your own snacks on the plane as long as you eat them / leave them behind before getting off at the other end? I know we have bought food at the airport to take on before but I don't think we have ever bought stuff before-hand. Obviously not thinking drinks - more like some dried fruit / crisps / nuts for snacking on between meals.

I have looked on VA website but I can't see anything saying yay or nay

we always take a small packed lunch for the kids in case they don't like the food on the plane. As long as there are no liquids then it isn't a problem. We did forget that we had an apple in there on one trip and got pulled over by a man with a dog at customs! Quickly disposed of the fruit and carried on with slightly red faces!

we usually take crisps, sweets and biscuits with us - useful to keep the children going when you get to the other end too and are waiting around for cases or car hire etc. Once I shared a couple of boxes of Mr Kipling cakes amongs some children in a particular long queue at the car hire desks (asked parents permission first obviously!) Gave us all 10 minutes of peace

We tend to make a stop at Boots, started when they were babies and now we seem to end up buying enough food for us for the flight to just pick at the in flight meal. Even where drinks are included we still (after security) grab several drinks.

Snacks like raisins, cereal bars etc. if opened we leave on the plane and declare the rest at the customs with never any problems.

once through to the gate area I make sure we buy some big bottles of water and some snacks as well. I hate to get dehydrated and find that the small cups of water just don't work.
