Taking Down Holiday Decor

I am just getting around to relaxing & enjoying the Christmas decorations in our house. The weeks leading up to Christmas are so busy, this week is when I finally just relax, hang out at home & enjoy the atmosphere. We take everything down the weekend after New Year's Day. I can't imagine putting everything away on the actual day of the holiday. The idea is just so bizarre to me, why even put it up if you take it down before the actual holiday is even over?

IKR? Why even bother? To me, everything looks so pretty and festive, it makes me somewhat sad to get the house "back to normal"

And don’t forget on 1/6....King cake! Makes taking down Christmas so much more bearable! I’ll leave mine up til 1/5 only b/c it’s a little too early to put up Mardi Gras yet!
I'm going to miss King Cakes this year since we moved to SW Florida. I don't think they have them down here. But I guess I could make my own.

I usually start taking down my trees after Jan 6 but this year, my brother is totally messing up my system so I might have to start this weekend. I put up 27 trees (no, not a typo...27 full sized trees). I like to have them up when my brother's family comes for our family celebration which is either New Years or the first weekend after Christmas. But, he want to come the weekend of Jan 6 and stay the weekend.

Since we will be in Disney the last weekend of the month, waiting until he leaves will put me too far behind.

I think it's lovely to have a Christmas tree up for a New Year's party. Good thing the cruise director on the Poseidon's adventure ship didn't think to take the tree down after Christmas; otherwise, those poor people on the New Year's Eve party would have been doomed!

My inside decorations are down ~just got done taking them down. I've had up since Thanksgiving weekend, I'm tired of them! Boys home from college, hubby off work so perfect time. Outside decorations down tomorrow when not sub-zero.

I take mine down sometime during the first week of January. I like it done before we get back to school. That said, they are definitely up past New Year’s Day. I agree with those who say they are just now settling in to enjoy and relax. Right now I’m sitting by the tree. Our real tree just went up last Wednesday night. I’m not ready to say goodbye to it yet.

I last took down decorations in Christmas of 2013. My mom does plenty for multiple families.

I admit it's one of my pet peeves that the season starts way too early at Thanksgiving, then is scrapped just hours after Christmas. And to find a Christmas movie on Christmas night? Or Christmas music after 6:00? Just crazy.

I am so thankful for the people who leave their lights up until early January. It is so nice to still have that light in dreary winter.

At least the Hallmark channels will be playing Christmas movies until Jan 1st

Inside is done....tomorrow is outside.
I love Christmas and decorations, but the last few years we travel in early Jan., so I needed to get them down

How big is your house? Where do you put 27 trees?

We take them down on New Years Day or shortly after. I keep up some wintery non Christmas things up for the next month. Our living room always looks so plain once the decoration come down which I find depressing so in the past few years I try to transition to winter decor afterwards. I love our house at Christmas.

Growing up we did it after Jan 6th.

OP back. Thanks everyone for replying. I admit it never occurred to me that people might be going away the day after Christmas and want to dispose of their cut trees before then.

Not only will my decor stay up until January, I actually bought some additional decorations for half price at Walmart yesterday and put them up. Two of those outdoor laser light things that shine against the house and make moving patterns. One has green and red snowflake type patterns, The other has Santa's sleigh and reindeer.

That's true. And if you're like me you stock pile some Christmas movies in the DVR :D

Oh, yes, I have a bunch of movies which I had no time to watch these past few weeks. I love that I have the time now to just and play them with all the lights, tree and decorations up...festive, homey and relaxing at the same time :lovestruc

Christmas just started, so true!
