Taking Down Holiday Decor

I noticed two cut trees out by the curb in my neighborhood while driving to work this morning. Seems kind of early to me.

I almost always leave up the tree and other decorations until at least through New Year's Day. Since it's Monday next week, everything will probably stay up until the weekend of January 6-7.

I remember as a kid my parents didn't take down the tree until after January 6, which is the Epiphany, or Three Kings Day. But then again we didn't put up the tree until maybe December 20 or so.

When do you take down your holiday décor?

Mine goes down as soon as DD goes back to school. If it was up to her, it would all be up all year round lol! So usually the second week of January, whenever I find the gumption to do it.

I will keep mine up for a while just because the decorations in my apartment make me happy. Back when my parents used to get real trees, we would frequently have to toss them the day after Christmas as we would leave for vacation on the 26th and didn't want to leave it to die in the house.

We leave it up till this weekend. However maybe the trees you saw are of people traveling? If someone is leaving for vacation today maybe they dont want them up the whole time they are gone. Fire hazard, fear of it falling etc.

In NYC it’s not unusual to see trees on the curb already. People put them up and then leave for vacation on the 24/25/26 so they take them down right before they leave.

I want my house back to normal before I have to go back to work, and with trips and appointments coming up it's all getting put away within the next couple of days.

We take everything down after Epiphany unless we're traveling over the holidays. There was one year we flew down to DC on the 26th, and the tree was at the curb when we left. Since we always put up a real tree, we don't like leaving it unattended and unwatered while we're away.

My decorations will stay up and lit until the second weekend in January, so January 7. When I was a kid my Mom always took the tree and decorations down on January 1st, because if she missed that "deadline" they stayed up til the Epiphany.

My neighbor usually has her tree down Christmas night. This year she may make it for a few more days, but I figure I will see it in the yard by Wednesday.

I will start taking things down Friday and Saturday, since the whole house is decorated inside, it will take me awhile..only the tree will remain till Jan 1, it will come down while watching the Rose Parade, as is our tradition. Outside lights and decorations will have to stay up till the weather warms up a bit. 20 degrees is a little cold to be working outside! My stepdaughter took her tree down last nite, she has had it up since the day after Thanksgiving. My sister in law, on the other hand, just put their 2 trees up yesterday, lol. Last year they were still up on Valentines Day!

We keep as much as possible up until Epiphany. Yesterday was just the first day of Christmas. Today is two turtle doves and we've got 10 more to go!
Exactly.

The 12 Days of Christmas start at Christmas, they don't end on Christmas.

Our tree is always up until after Feast of the Epiphany.

This year it will probably come down on Jan 7. Then 10 days later we are off to Disney.

Same as your parents did - after January 7, which is when the Eastern Orthidox denominations celebrate Christmas. (There we’re a lot of people of Eastern European decent where I grew up.) Outdoor lights stay on until then too.

My decorations will probably come down this weekend. Some of the lights will depend on how easily I can borrow the ladder that I used to put some of them up.

We take decorations and the tree down when the liturgical Christmas season is over. This year It's Monday, January 8. Pretty early this year.

I totally agree people should take down live trees if they are traveling! We travel every year after Christmas and that's one of the reasons we have a fake tree.

We travel after Christmas and have a live tree every year and leave it up with no issues. We even have two cats as well and they never touch it. Give it plenty of water before we leave and it’s fine when we return. Usually leave it up at least another week or two. We make sure to unplug the lights but that’s about it.

Ours is always up December 1 and down the day after Christmas. Spent this morning putting everything away. It's down for us because DH and relatives have birthdays in a few days. They all grew up with the Merry Christmas & Oh it's your birthday gift too.
