Taking a newborn out for Thanksgiving

Mine said to keep the baby away from large crowds for 4 weeks - malls, events, etc. I think using common sense is best here. Glad the OP stayed home and rested - you have many, many Thanksgivings ahead of you!

I was told 6 weeks with my oldest. The second and third they weren't as strict because they told me the older ones were bringing home everything from school anyway, lol. I'll admit to cringing when I see a brand new, days old baby in the mall. I'm 'old school' I guess:)

Obviously.

Isn't it weird though that some docs want you to stay housebound for weeks and others tell you to go about your regular routine.... :confused3 I certainly don't doubt those who say they were told to stay put.

I don't think it is weird at all; it is about typical of pregnancy and parenting advice. There's such a huge range of opinions/philosophies, even within the medical community, that contradictory professional opinions are more the norm than the exception. Look at any specific element of pregnancy or infant care and you'll find the same thing - vaccination, circumcision, alcohol during pregnancy/breastfeeding, food and activity restrictions during pregnancy, co-sleeping, breastfeeding, crying it out, and on and on. There are capable, competent professionals with opposing viewpoints on just about every aspect of pregnancy and parenting.
