Taking a day out for the beach

We will be traveling at the end of March, and were thinking of taking a day away from our Disney trip to visit the coast - either gulf or Atlantic. Any suggestions for something that won't be completely packed with Spring Breakers, and close enough that we're not spending the entire day driving?

We loved Ft. DeSoto beach on the gulf side, a bit south of Tampa. It's a park, so it's out in nature and doesn't have hotels and such.

Not to sure but I can not imagine St. Augustine being overly crowded since its a historic area and its a little less than a two hour drive.
