Take home box at Buffet?

Wow...ok, so much judgement here...so as owner of a 3 & 4 year old who get too excited to eat too in a character meal, I have frequently folded up a couple chicken strips or slices of pizza in a napkin without hiding or guilt from their toddler served up plate which often goes untouched while they are so excited. They dont eat but 2-3 bites in the restaurant and we get out and they calm down and realize they are hungry. I do not "overdo" it and do not think 2 chicken strips or 2 slices of pizza for 2 toddler aged kids are being subsidized by others as we did pay for it ($16/ea!), but they are too little to be able to focus on eating with so much stimulation around with characters. I agree that a doggie bag is not cool...or taking food to friends, but in real life, overstimulated toddlers dont eat well and I do not feel a darn bit guilty about it and neither should you. So I say do what you need to do for your child that you know...dont take out a 2nd meal for the family, but a bannana, cookie, chicken strip or slice of pizza from a paying customer that did not eat anything and would be thrown away anyway is not a big deal....and have fun!

One issue you may have missed, the toddler is two and so would be free so they are not a paying customer.

Yes they can eat from a parents plate or even get their own plate but Disney allows this as a courtesy.

One isn't paying for a toddler (under 3 of course) to sit at the table at a character meal to see the characters. So I'm not sure why it matters that they don't eat, as far as cost is concerned. At any rate, an epidemic of guests removing extra-meal amounts of food from buffets and all you can eat restaurants is likely to spur Disney to do something about it, as they can't afford it, and it'll be either raise the price or have someone watch to make sure guests don't pocket stuff. They'd probably go with raising the price.

I get it now!!!!
Since it works for you, breaking the rules is the way to go. The rule really doesn't apply to an overstimulated toddler, and I can take whatever I want for them to eat later.
I didn't see this anywhere in the policy.
Thanks for the information

I have to say it, Gross!!! Who the heck takes chicken strips or pizza to eat later? In the Florida heat?

You know there is a simple solution if your children are to excited to eat at buffets--Don't do buffet meals. No one is entitled to take food to eat later, and taking 2 slices of pizza is indeed a meal for later. You are entitled to eat what you wish while you are at the buffet, not to fill your purse or backpack for food to eat later.

Only once have I been encouraged by a CM to take food with me. This was at Tusker House, and one of the women at the hostess desk as we were leaving encouraged us to go back and get some cookies to take with us for our DDs. So I did. When I got back to the desk, another woman at the hostess desk said, "And get them some fruit!" I said I was fine, but she insisted on going back to the buffet and grabbing a couple of apples for the kids.

It was at this point that I decided the CMs at Tusker House were the nicest on property.

I usually take some cookies wrapped in a napkin from the buffets. Now you know. popcorn::

I was going to say - I certainly would not take food like chicken fingers or pizza with me to eat later in park, good way to not feel good the next day, and especially so if it was for a young child. Buy them something nice and fresh in the parks, or bring along some non-perishable foods for a quick snack.

A few years ago, we did the Backstage Magic Tour and had lunch at Mama Melroses. We were joined by the mother of the guide, a very nice and chatty lady.

The lunch was served family style on big plates and was basically a sampler of all the food they have on the menu. When everyone was full, there was still lots of stuff on the plates. The guide's mother then showed us her purse, inside, was was lined in plastic and she put all the left over stuff in there. When we left, she said to the waiter "It was very good, the food will be with us for quite some time..." :-)

Of course, she was only a streetmosphere character and she was playing a role, but it was hilarious. When she came out of character, whe told us about her job and also said that the food she had taken would not be thrown away but it would be her lunch, as she hadn't eaten while we were at the restaurant, she just played her role, entertaining everyone.

It was hilarious.

Yum- food poisoning for the kids!

Especially since the food is more than four years old as of today.

ZOMBIE THREAD!
No, don't point it out! We could have all been regaled with more stories of preschoolers who died of food poisoning after being fed an hour-old chicken nugget by their brigand parents! :lmao:

i had dinner at Ohaha whic is family style all you can eat..they serve the chicken wings which i dont eat it was already on my table, and i wanted to take it with me to give to my friends who would eat it and they said they couldnt let me take it..why? I paid for it and all they were going to do is throw it away..i gueess i could have raised a stink aboit it but i didnt..
No, it was because 'Ohana is AYCTE, and people would ask for bowls of food that they never intended to eat, and then use your reasoning to bring it home. You paid for the food you were eating at the restaurant, not for the additional food that was left on the table.

Happy Birthday to the thread!!!!!!!

Once we realized that our son had a hard time eating while at character meals, *we stopped booking character meals*. It's pretty simple. :)
