Take home box at Buffet?

Actually you don't need to use a garbage bag. They make really big Zip Lock
bags.

With that thing you could take a week's worth of pudding and Mickey's head:earsboy:

While this probably wouldn't be allowed, at BD's Mongolian BBQ here in Detroit (and in other cities, it's a chain of make-your-own-stirfry) if you make a second bowl and then can't finish it, they will happily box it up for you to take it home.

So SOME buffets will let you. But it's not the norm, not at all.

That's still "dangerous" "Opps sorry I guess I didn't really want this so could you wrap it up"

At McDonlad's we were never allowed to take home the left over food, since it would just encourage us to make more at the end of the night.

But OP, occasionally the severs have let people take food for maybe a child that slept the whole time and didn't eat, but there is also the flip side where they charge full price for adults with lap bands and people who use a feeding tube.

I think whats kind of bothering people here is that since your child is under 2 he is free. In the example above the server would feel sorry for someone who paid full price and didn't eat.

I have to disagree- in Dec at 1900 PF my kids were offered boxes to take pasteries they had left on their plates. We were surprised but it made agreat snack.

No one is really saying it doesn't happen occasionally, but just don't count on it.

And again its a little, insert some sort of word here :confused3, to take food that you really didn't pay for. Yes kids under 3 eat free but it kind of a courtesy.

I think the difference here and for the previous poster who was at Cape May is the fact that in both cases the server offered the take out containers. A person could make an extra large plate of seconds and "hope" the server will offer a take out container, but most of the time it probably won't happen. In neither the Cape May or 1900 PF cases did the parties go into the restaurant with the plan of taking away enough food to feed someone later on which is what the OP wants to do.

So while it sometimes happens, it's not typical.

Thanks everyone for the info. I asked cause with Disney you never know with small children what they may do.

You all are to funny with the giant ziplock bags.:goodvibes

On the suggestion side: Bring snacks with you whatever your child likes buy small bags of it. Also they sell small microwave meals that you can carry with you and microwave at most CS places at resorts and If I remeber Picos Bills has one in MK and likely others. Yes I know not the best food for your child but it keeps them full and not cranky... The mac and cheese at some CS places seems to go over well with children as well... It will not cost much to feed a 2 YO just plan right and bring snaks, food, drinks..... in case he will not eat what you have or is not hungry... I can assure you will be making food in your room at night..

If doggie-bags were allowed from buffets, some people would eat at the buffet on the first night, and bag enough food to feed them for the rest of the week.

Have you ever read the budget board?? I'm all for saving money but some of these people are overboard.

OP we have the same issue with our DD and we had to just go with the flow.

When we went to Crystal palace, DD21 mo slept through our ENTIRE meal. We thought she was out of luck but as we were just finishing up eating she woke up. I asked the server if it was ok if she still ate. It was like having two ADR time blocks because we started all over again (not adults, just her). She got to see all the characters and ate her meal without being rushed. They were really flexible about it.

So, it looks like everyone agrees that buffets don't have doggy bags, you eat as much you want while you are there and it defeats the purpose if you are saving up food for later.

Unless you just want a handful of cookies, because cookies are different than other food and it's ok to put them in your purse. But, ONLY cookies.

Unless you want some bananas later, after all, it's ok to take fruit from a buffet because fruit isn't really food. But ONLY bananas or cookies.

Unless you just want to wrap up some muffins and croissants for breakfast tomorrow, because muffins and croissants are, are, are....well, if I take muffins and croissants that means I won't have to purchase breakfast tomorrow, and after all Disney buffets are so expensive we should be able to get 2 meals from them.

So, what's the diff if I want to just stick a pork chop or 2 in my bag?

i had dinner at Ohaha whic is family style all you can eat..they serve the chicken wings which i dont eat it was already on my table, and i wanted to take it with me to give to my friends who would eat it and they said they couldnt let me take it..why? I paid for it and all they were going to do is throw it away..i gueess i could have raised a stink aboit it but i didnt..

It's all you can eat, not all you and your friends who aren't at the table can eat. If you don't eat chicken wings, let the server know as soon as you are seated that you don't want them.

Because it's family style where you can keep asking for refills. If the restaurant started allowing doggie bags some people would ask for lots of refills and then ask to take everything home. Buffets and family style restaurants have to set the limits somewhere.

So, what's the diff if I want to just stick a pork chop or 2 in my bag?

1) Because they are expensive compared to a banana.
2) This would drive the buffet cost up.
3) WDW would need to increase prices to retain profit.
4) Ergo, I pay more so you can stuff your pocket.
5) And, I do not want to subsidize your later meals.

You could have made a stink all you wanted, but all you would acheive is embarrassing yourself. You are wrong. You are not entitled to take food out of the restaurant for your friends who are not with you at all you care to eat or buffet meals. It is their right to make the rules, and this is the rule. You are required to follow the rules. If you don't like the rules you do not have to go there.

I feel you should be entitled to walk out with whatever food you can jam into your mouth. What you should have done is left the wings till after dessert, then jammed about 6 of them in your mouth. Now in my mind you should only have to have a portion of the food in you mouth. So you could have just put the tips of the wings in. Now walk out with the feeling that you just put one over on the man. Same goes for banana's, cookies and pork chops. Now if you can jam the cookie, banana, and pork chop in your mouth and walk out then you got a whole meal there. I just need a good way to get a drink out too. Maybe have my GF cup her hands and I can pour some pop in there.:goodvibes

1. Actually its all you care to enjoy but thats another thread. :goodvibes

2. Pretty much hits the nail on the head. But I do kind of, though very little , understand maybe where they are coming from (enough weasel words). They didn't ask for them so its not not like they asked for an other plate of food knowing that they didn't want it. But yes its much easier to say no doggie bags.
