Ha! Good question, since I haven't started packing and I'm supposed to be ready to leave tomorrow a.m. at 9:00!!! The second to last thing I do is make a sweep of the house to be sure lights are off and irons are unplugged, etc. and timers are set properly on lamps.

The last thing I do is try unsuccessfully to remember what it is I have forgotten!

Lewski709 what a bummer!!!! What is it you do for a job? I can't get the dis boards at my work either as it is classed as a chat room so the filtering software for the kids blocks it out. Not that I ever would have time to log on during the day though, I'm way too busy!!!!

I'm going to sound like an old lady, but we turn off all the water to the house. DH's parents came home once to find a pipe had burst behind the toilet, water was everywhere, took forever to clean up....you get the idea....and theirs was a newer house, not some 50-year-old one that needed the pipes replaced. So we turn off our water....

Besides that, lights off, computer off, timers on....

Doublecheck stuff is in my purse:
--tickets (park, airline, etc.)
--itenerary print out with confirmation numbers
--ID's for everyone (needed for FL resident discount!!)
--DH's leave papers
--cell phones and chargers
--address book to write/call loved ones

Doesn't help though. I always think I've forgotten something until we finally get home and realize I didn't!!

QOTD: I go to the bathroom, check DW's list, Make sure the kids are settled in their bag, make sure I have my baggie with all of the stuff I need for Airport secrity, make a sweep of the house to make sure the lights are off, go to the bathroom again (I always seem to be in a towel when my cousin comes to take us to the airport) and make sure the alarm is set...

RickinNYC, OK, if it is running "SCANDISK" and you have "BAD SECTORS" or "BAD BLOCKS" it is not a good thing. 50/50 you will need a new hard drive.

-> is there a techie on premisses at Harvest who will take pity on you? if you have to replace the HD, Compusa can do it, but there are better places, and I am not the happiest with their service. They will probably charge $100, + the cost of the new HD ($120-$300) + tax.....

Since you have the restore disks, you need to try repartition the hard drive. if you are lucky, this will get rid of the bad-block errors.

While at work, get a floppy disk, go into start, Settings, Control Panel, add and remove programs, Create Emergency disk.

Take this disk home, put it in drive A:, and start up your computer.

you should get a A:\> prompt.

type FDISK.

erase all partitions

Reboot your computer (remove the floppy) and place the restore disk in the CD.

It will do everything for you, if you are getting bad blocks when it formats the hard disk, you will need a new one; if it works you don't have to worry.

One week vacation after the first year, 2 weeks after the second and 3 weeks after 10yrs. No personal day and YES....3 sick days a year. We get 10 holidays (NYEve, NYDay, Good Friday, Memorial Day, 4th July, Labor Day, 2 days at Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve and Day). No floaters. I've been with the Company 7yrs and I am a Senior Account Manager (managing 5 Account Managers and one major account). I put together all the training classes, incentives, quarterly and annual reviews. Nothing EXTRA for being a manager.

Yes, they have a server call UUNet. They control it. I think I need a laptop of my own. Can you include one for me in the swap?

You are NOT an old lady, you are VERY smart! I was on my way out the door one day when the water connection to my washing machine busted and within minutes the room was flooded. Had I not been home, the whole house would have flooded, hardwoods ruined, etc......I count that as one of my "luckiest" days ever and ALWAYS turn off the water before a trip!

The funny thing is when they needed to turn off my water on another occasion, they asked if I had a "meter key". Well, I opened my handy dandy key drawer and asked them what it looked like.......they were ROTFL because I had no clue a "meter key" was over two feet long!

Ok, now that I admitted my mistake, try to keep the "dumb blonde" jokes to a minimim!
