RRBB, your bridesmaid dresses were gorgeous! And I like the purple shoes too! I think if I were to get married now, I'd have to wear some white Converse high tops. What do you think? :p

RICK, please tell me you are making that story up.

Nope! Not making it up at all! It's all true baby. And I left stuff OUT!

Kadaten, no bad blood between us. In fact, we were pretty close growing up and then high school came. We realized we were nothing like each other. Basically, my brother is a cold, self involved wipe.

In high school and college, he was so incredibly preoccupied about being the "cool" one that he even developed this ridiculous "cool guy" walk and would purposefully smirk as he talked to you. Thank God the walk is gone, but he still has that know-it-all smirk.

I tried to stay in touch with him after college but he never returned messages. After he got married, nothing. So what's the point.

In fact, after his first daughter was born, I flew out to CA to see them and meet her. He picks me up at the airport and his first question is "So why are you visiting for?" This, after I spent several hundred dollars on a brand new newborn, 2-4 month, and 6 month old warddrobe for the new kid!

He once admitted to me that the reason why he went to medical school and joined the Navy was because he knew if he did so, our father would pretty much give him whatever he wanted. And that was true. He got a car, a furnished apartment and a parking space! That's just to name a few things.

Here are a couple of other things:

He applied for a Naval scholarship and asked my Dad to ask his good friend (surgeon general of the Navy) for a recommendation. The guy wrote the recommendation thinking he was writing it for ME! He never even knew Mike!!! Mike made him think it was me!

He had decided to become an orthopedic surgeon and was accepted into a program at a Naval hospital. He realized that being in orthopedics, he'd have heavy interraction with patients so he changed his mind after his acceptance and wanted to do radiology. He'd only have to interract with people minimally. This, after my dad pulled strings, wrote his own recommendation (retired Naval officer and MD), and got his friends to send in recommendations. Mike didn't care.

He freely admits he wants money, hates people and can't be bothered with anyone that doesn't have the same interests he does which are military and medicine.

There used to be a bit of jealousy on my part but that's long gone. Now I think he's a walking parody of himself.

I feel vindicated now as well. My own father and our little brother think Mike is a complete hole.

Why thank you. Thank you very much!

I really searched for something that wouldn't be joked about as the most hideous bridesmaid dress in the world. And I promised my MoH that I wouldn't choose anything strapless or with spaghetti-straps. I also wanted purple, NOT lilac or hiacynth or victorian lilac or lavendar or anything in the pastel range - though I did have my flowergirls in lavendar. I've just seen/worn too many bridesmaid dresses that make you want to throw up. And I wasn't going to do that to MY friends. (I wanted them to remain my friends after my wedding.)

It also helps that the style when we got married was simple/elegant so I didn't have to wade through lots of gross styles. I guess it's all a matter of when you get married because I'm sure all you gals that had the big butt bows thought they were quite a fashion statement at the time.

Love the idea. But why limit yourself to white?

Okay RickinNYC, I can think of a whole slew of things to say about that excuse of a brother you have. But why bother because I'm sure you've thought all of them before. And I guess it's for the best that you don't really have anything to do with him now. Who needs to put up with people that are stuck on themselves.

Okay, backing down now...

Well we just had another thunderstorm that blew through here and bless my soul, my hoopskirts did get all blown up in my face!

But I'm OK, got a nice glass of ice tea and I'm ready to show some more pictures!

Here's my little Holly, so cute!

She was a couple months from her 2 year old birthday.

Rick we shall have RRBB add your bro to the Tagliarchy Family Album of *******s. Raise your hand if you have a brother who's a complete ***! Seriously, you think we could start one!? :hyper:

I don't. My brothers are more like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Dumb and Dumber, Gassy and Gassier. Take your pick!

Just popping in to say great pix everyone... watch out if I find and post the one of me as a bridesmaid ... 8.5 months pregnant with Katie ... it will crack your computer screens! It was Mama Cass (teal blue silk muu-muuish dress) meets Bride of Frankenstein ... (very big, very tall, very teasedbysomebeauticianondrugs hair.)

BBwwwwaaaahhhh!!

Rick... too bad Ugly Brother didn't meet Nancypants sooner... a match made in heaven.

Just finished Birthday Fairying - 81 names, fortunately only 27 or 28 active DIS'ers...

Gotta go to Office Max for stationery and more printer ink, and Lowe's for more bedding plants. Katie is growing a green thumb - hooray, finally one of my children shares my joy in digging in the dirt! Probably won't be back 'til about 8:00 EST for about an hour.

:wave2:

I am loving all these old photos!

So now, not only do we have the cutest children and pets, we definitely have the most beautiful brides and most handsome grooms!

RickinNYC I'm so sorry you were treated so miserably by that scumbag brother of yours...wish you were here so I could give you a big fat ...it's absolutely terrible how he treated you and not only that, I'm upset with the rest of your family for the way THEY allowed you to be treated like that.....I guess it's like they say, you can't pick your family but thank goodness you can pick your friends!

WE love you and would NEVER, EVER in a million years treat you that way!!!! :grouphug:

You're right about that!

I love my brother, I just don't like him at all! And you should see Joe. Joe gets along with everyone, likes everyone, is charming to everyone. But he doesn't like Mike at all.

But what makes this strange is that Mike likes Joe a lot! That's his one saving grace I guess!

RRBB I love your wedding photos and the fact that most were taken outdoors. And your bridesmaids dresses are very tasteful and lovely....I'm sooo jealous ::yes:: Those girls should kiss your feet for not making them wear big butt bow dresses or shiny gathered at the waste candied pink numbers......all except the mean one who definitely needed the BIG BUTT BOW shoved up her you know what! :teeth:

Awwww!!! THANK YOU! :teeth:

But don't get me wrong. I get along really great with my parents and my little brother.

In fact, as a follow up to the wedding horror story, when we all got home and I was at my parents house unpacking, Joe (he dog sat for my parents that weekend) demanded that I tell my folks what I thought. He's very NON-confrontational so this was a twist that he got me riled up!

So as I was unpacking, my mom and dad walked by the door to my room and I asked them to come in. I simply said to them that they were right, the wedding was Mike and Jackie's (the bride) time and not mine. But I also told them that as my parents, it was their responsiblity to remember that they had another son there and they could have shown me the common decency to get me for photos, the family prayer or anything else for that matter.

I finished with telling them that they both owed me a huge apology for their behavior, that they were to never treat me like that again, and that I was disappointed in them.

I expected to be told off or be treated like a child (I was about 26 or 27 at the time). Much to my dismay, they apologized, told me I was right, that what happened was wrong, that it'd never happen again and on and on.

You could have knocked me over with a feather!

Well I'm VERY proud of you for standing up for yourself....and I'm happy to hear they apologized....and it better NOT happen again or else they're gonna have to deal with THIS southern belle who doesn't put up with THAT kind of nonsense! So there!! :snooty:

I'd like to nominate BIL, but I think ohanafamily might object. He thinks there are still some redeeming qualities in his brother. Have I mentioned that I DON'T?

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing.

This is DH, circa 1978, approx., but more importantly - CHECK OUT THE LEGS ON PINNOCHIO!

Ok, so here is the whole wedding party. The bridesmaid dresses were pretty basic. Navy blue. I picked out a pattern & had a friend make them all.

Here is Daniel (llebrekniT's DS)

Ok, who is sick of my wedding? It's OK, you won't hurt my feelings.

And these are from DHB's reception.

What is it about wedding dance floors and kids? Daniel had never wanted to dance before and never wanted to since -

I wouldn't exactly call her mean. In fact most would say she's just very shy. (She was 16, almost 17, at the time of our wedding.) But trying to carry on a conversation with here, even when it was just the two of us, was worse than having teeth pulled at the dentist. And all the resistance I got when I told her/her mother my plans - which wasn't very often because it was difficult to get in contact with them. In a way I guess I should blame the problems more on her parents than her, but puhleeeze. I was really trying and got NOTHING back from her. (Her father is the one I want to nominate for the *** hole club and her mother is the one I call the Ice Queen.)
