Wow, I come back to some pretty neat news. TK and Tink...can't wait to hear to whole story and nothing but the story. :thumbsup2

See...Good luck with your decision. And I completely agree with what TK said. :thumbsup2

I hope you have all had a good day today. If any of you watch Ice Road Truckers, the new season starts tonight. 9:00pm on the History channel.

Rats...rats...rats....RATS!!!!!

I think you can watch the episodes after-the-fact on the web site?? I hope so! DH and I love that show....those guys are certifiably NUTS.

A note on the student loans: I'm not trying to be Debby Downer here, but I've gotta toss in my experience. DH and I both went to a small (back then!) private college. I had wanted to go there all through high school and it took 3 years after graduation to be able to make it happen. I am a tad past 30 () and not only do I still have those loans, I will likely have them for the rest of my life. DH and I graduated college in the early 90s, smack in the middle of the last recession, and it was nearly impossible to find a "good" job. We did what we could, and things have certainly gotten better since then (well, up until last fall!), but we have struggled to make those payments and have had to put them on forebearance many times. I majored in History, wanted to work for the Park Service, but never got the chance. I love having the degree, and college is where I met DH so no regrets there!...but I will never, ever let my kids take out federal student loans to get through college. My BIL went part-time and paid his way as he went. We envy him that now....

.

:lmao: You are some sneaky ladies! Did you leave Tink behind? She hasn't posted lately.

Don't I wish I'd been left behind there...stranded in the World. Really, is there anything better?

Ha. I'm sure she wishes that were so. Unfortunately, one of our souvenirs was a raging head cold for me, and bronchitis for her, so I know she's been MIA because she's sick. :confused3

Thanks to some Azythromycin I'm on the mend. Just a little bit of a risidual cough.

I love Wall E!

BF and I watched the end of it on Starz today.

We just took DS to see UP today.

Awwww. That looks good. I love the commercial with the dog. "Hello my name is...My owner made this collar for me...SQUIRREL!"

Hello everyone! Hope all is well.

The only thing that's stopping me from accepting is the price. I mean I know art school is expensive but I can't believe how much I will owe in loans. :scared1: I will be paying them off forever. It's what I really want to do but I just feel so sick about the money

It's better to earn the money back to pay off college doing what you love than to pay off a smaller amount doing something you hate. But going with the one that offers the scholarship is a smart choice. Sarasota is a very expensive area to live, so in addition to tuition, you'll have a high cost of living. I don't know where your second choice is, but take into account the cost to live in the city the school is located.

Welcome to the world of being an adult. It stinks having to make the smart choice rather than live your dream. But sometimes, you can do both. My job isn't the dream job I thought I'd have when I entered the TV field, but I can't think of a better place or better people to work with.

Thank you. This is by far the hardest decision i've had to make in my life. I just hope I make the right one :scared:

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to have to take out some loans but i'm going to try and take out as little as possible. The cost of art school really is rediculous. I have no idea how they think people are supposed to pay all this.

My second choice is SCAD which is in Savannah, GA. So i'm still pretty close to WDW ;) It's just tough not being able to afford it when I worked so hard to get in. Oh well, at least I can say I was accepted.

Anna,

Im the worst to ask about student loans. I think I owe hubbahubba thousand dollars, but the experience was worth it. And I am working in the field. I am planning on going back in the fall for my Doctorate in Education in Administration--I am tagged to be the next director of special services. You have to do what is best for you and then live with whatever decision you make.

It's really tough but I just honestly don't think I can turn down such a large scholarship. It will mean 30 thousand dollars less in loans. This just sucks so bad!

The elementary school starts at 8:50am, and we leave at 8:30 to drive them in. The middle school doesn't start until 9:38am! Apparently this age group was felt to be the most "at risk" for getting into trouble and what not during the after-school hours (assuming working parents and no one at home). Their school day gets them home around 4:30pm, so they supposedly have less time in the "alone" state. I don't like it because they also tend to get tons of homework, so there is really no time to "unwind" after school (which I believe in 110%).

I haven't really chimed in on my thoughts here but I will say this. I desperately wanted to go to Northeastern (in Boston). It was ridiculously out of our price range and despite the fact that I was #12 in a graduating class of 700+, was part of the NHS and other stuff, was passed over for a scholarship (ironically, I roomed with the girl who got it instead - not easy considering she'd been offered TWO full rides, one for track and one academic. Had she taken the track scholarship, I'd have been offered the academic one...:sigh: ). Instead I received a $10K grant and financial aid. My parents funded the rest. The monthly payments cost more than their mortgage payments.

I stayed at NEU for freshman year and that's it. After a bit of what I like to refer to now as "college career confusion" I ultimately ended up at UMass. With loans, but no financial burden on my parents.

After all of that and considering the fact that I'm not currently working in my "field" (English Communications), I still don't regret a penny spent or owed. It's an unfortunate reality that education continues only to get more expensive while it becomes even more important.

Making the decision between what your heart and head say can be a tricky one, but you'll find what's right for you.

Good morning ya'll. :goodvibes

Morning to you dear.

I am SO happy this week is here!!

I just LOVE seeing that happy hamster every day!

Wow. I wouldn't like those hours either.

You know I haven't paid attention to the difference in Firefox and IE. I'm on Firefox right now. And Tinks tag is not red. I use Firefox when IE is loading really slow.

...wow, so then, if I were a MS teacher THERE, I could have stayed home to watch Danny Gokey on Good Day, New York this morning?? :faint:

...actually, that wouldn't fly here - too many families with more than one child [in different schools]....

How does anyone pay for school? Seriously, ridiculous :sad2:

...yup.

...my middle DS just graduated from Bergen Community College a few weeks ago (he got his Associates in Applied Sciences -
graduate-emoticon.gif
) and is continuing his education at William Paterson University...I've been putting off filling in his acceptance papers, since I don't know where the money will come for his tuition....:guilty:

I love Wall E! We just took DS to see UP today. That was a great film. I cried so much, I am such a dang sap. :lmao: It was great, we watched in 3D. A pretty penny for the tickets, but totally worth it.

...wow, Wall E must have been really cool in 3-D....what a cute movie!

Truthfully, I think it is ridiculous.

Wow, I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me that. I think that deep down I just can't justify paying that much. You don't have to spend buckets of money for a good education. I just opened a school letter today and my second choice art school (just as equally expensive) is offering me a full years worth in scholarship money. I'm going to take the offer! I'll end up borrwoing a third as much because of this.

Sheesh this is stressful!

No problem, my dear. I just remember being young and naive and not thinking about this stuff, and the fact that you are already puts you ahead of where I was in my awareness of finances.

Congratulations on the scholarship! That is a HUGE deal, and I say good for you!!!! :goodvibes

Yes, drill sargeant!!!! :lmao:

My BIL went part-time and paid his way as he went. We envy him that now....

I'm with you there. I totally see the validity in that now, and I never did before. My biggest fear for my son is being saddled with the level of debt my DH had when he came out of college. I don't want to talk about how much it is, it's ridiculous.:confused3

Awwww. That looks good. I love the commercial with the dog. "Hello my name is...My owner made this collar for me...SQUIRREL!"

Hello everyone! Hope all is well.

The talking dog is hilarious. And that's all I have to say without ruining it.

That's amazing!!! The 30,000 I mean. :thumbsup2

Mornin', guys!!!

...wow, Wall E must have been really cool in 3-D....what a cute movie!

Did you know that they're planning to release Toy Story 1 and 2 in 3D as a sort of promotion for the third one coming out?

...yup.

Unfortunately, loans are a necessity for me. I'm just trying to take out as little as possible. I'm trying to compromise by going to art school so I can become and animator but i'm not choosing the most expensive school. It sucks that I have to take out loans but these day's who doesn't?

Truthfully, I think it is ridiculous.

Thank you! I'm just trying to make it so i'm not a slave to loans later on in life!
