Morning all!!!!! Happy Thursday!

Sadie - UGH on the dentist! I'm not a fan either, but you've got me beat a million times over. I hope you're feeling well today.

I hope you all have a Seusspendous day!

Thanks guys. My jaw aches and I still can't open it like I should. It throbs when I bend over and when I tried to open wide enough to brush my teeth this morning. HATE THE DENTIST!

My son is home sick today. He has felt rotten all week. It is not like him to feel this bad for so long. Poor kid is afraid he has swine flu. A grade school and daycare closed in Southern Maine b/c 1 kid in each tested positive.

Sadie, I have some icky jaw issues and they were really amplified when I had my wisdom teeth out. At the time my oral surgeon said the best thing to do is to apply MOIST HEAT (moist being key).

So.

Whenever my jaw is particularly troublesome I wet a facecloth and pop it into the microwave for a few seconds (be careful not to let it get too hot or to burn your skin!) and then hold it along my jaw and up to the base of my ear.

Hope you're feeling better as the day goes on!

Ok, I feel safe here among my friends, so I just want to know, what is everyone's take on this whole swine flu thing?? So far I can't find anything about it that makes me fear it any worse than "regular" flu that we all get every winter. Am I missing something??

There's a thread on the main board and it is LOOONG and boy is it heated!! "Yes we all need to hole up and avoid everyone" and "No you don't, that's stupid, just live a normal life" and "No, that's stupid, you will get swine flu if you go out in public!!"....

OY!

Obviously the main point started on whether or not people should be going to Disney right now. Of course there are those who panic (or, err on the side of caution, depending on your pov!) and there are those who say that Disney is no worse than going anywhere else.

I guess on my part, as I stated at the top, I am still trying to figure out what the "deal" is with this particular flu. Can anyone enlighten me??!!

(oh, and by the way, I still have every intention of going to DTD this weekend!!!)

Funny things your kids say:

I have a picture on my computer of a waterfall out in California....

DS7 was looking at it and asked, "Mom, is that Viagra Falls?"....

OMG I nearly peed my pants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Viagra falls....:lmao::lmao::lmao::rotfl2: You need to write that one down.

My take on this flu is....I use the same caution I always use while out. I wipe shopping cart handles down with disinfectant wipes because they seriously gross me out. (But I have been doing this for a long time) (And seeing a baby in a cart with its mouth on the handles just about makes me *******************************************ZSzeb001_ZN ) I do try to avoid people that are obviously sick. (I have really bad asthma) I somewhat bought into the survivalist mode 20 years ago after hurricane Hugo. I never want to feel that vulnerable again. So we stay somewhat stocked year round. And I admit that we have recently added a little extra to our stuff. :upsidedow I do not call it stock piling. At least not yet.:goodvibes I think the best way to approach this is with common sense. Just be smart about it, and don't stick your head in the sand. :goodvibes But if you feel that you need to take greater precautions for your family please do so without any hesitation.

Nom....!:goodvibes

What does "Nom" mean?

OMG!! I love kids.

DD had a beta fish die on Sunday. :fish: Our 2nd beta died last night. :fish:
No fishies till we come back from vacation.

I'm fighting to get my DD into German1 next year. Last night there was a meeting letting parents know about moving foriegn langauges into middle school. DD will be in 8th grade next year. Apparently you have to score a proficient in reading to get into any foriegn langauge. If you are not proficent than you have to take some sort of literacy course. That course is supposed to help kids figure out how to process all of the info they recieve when reading a book or reading on the computer.

So far only the 7th grade counselor has gotten back to me. I told him that my DD WILL take German next year even if I have to put it in her IEP. She is Learning Disabled. I speak a little German, my mom was born and raised in German. She could teach the German teacher German. I am so furious. I understand the school wanting to make sure the kids are prepared for the future, but, come on folks, next year is the first year they are offering this program. It's not like I'm asking that she take Chemistry or Algebra.

I think someone who has less immunity to a disease, like an infant, older person or person with a lower immune system, should take extra precautions and avoid putting themself at risk right now. For my family, we'll be extra careful to wash our hands, use anti-bacterial gel, and avoid icky sicky people. I know my DD's schools are doing what they would with any outbreak, being extra careful.

I think the disease was so horrible in Mexico because many areas there don't have the modern conveniences we do.

PaMom - "nom" is LOLcat speak for eat! For example....

This is only the beginning. Soon, you'll be like me. "I'm having a bad day, must go to Disney this weekend to feel better." "The kids did great in school, must go to Disney to reward them." "We have a family birthday this month, must go to Disney to celebrate." "The weather is nice, my hair looks good, my hair looks bad..." You get the idea.

My Mickey and the Gang Waffle maker arrived yesterday! DD3 wanted waffles right away for dinner. The waffles are very small, but very cute. It's called a Tasty Baker if you want to find one for yourself. It can also make eggs, brownies, cakes, muffins, and cookies. I plan to try out all of that.
