Hi there

I was wondering if anyone had a recipe for taco salad? I'm looking for one that has the nachos/tachos all broken up inside but anything would be great!

Thanks!

Sorry, my measurements are estimates since I kind of just dump it together.

Brown 1 lb hamburger add 1 chopped onion.
Add 1 large can kidney beans (or black beans depending on what you prefer)
1-2 (depending on how spicy you like it) packets taco seasoning with the water indicated on the spice packets. Let simmer until water is gone.

Either cool the meat/bean mixture in fridge or on stove depending on when you're going to serve it.

Break up a head or two of romaine lettuce, add sliced olives, cubed tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, and meat/bean mixture. Mix with 1 small bottle italian dressing (sounds weird I know, it's good) and crushed Doritos right before serving.

I make this one from Kraft. Its fast, easy and really really tasty!:thumbsup2

What You Need

1 lb. lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onions (about 1 medium)
1 pkt. (1-1/4 oz.) TACO BELL® HOME ORIGINALS® Taco Seasoning Mix
1/4 cup water
10 cups torn romaine lettuce (about 1 large head)
1-1/2 cups chopped tomatoes (about 2 medium)
1 cup KRAFT Shredded Cheddar Cheese
2 cups tortilla chips, coarsely crushed
1/4 cup KRAFT Ranch Dressing OR Sour Cream

Make It
BROWN meat in large nonstick skillet sprayed with cooking spray on medium-high heat; drain. Return meat to skillet. Add onions; cook 5 min., stirring occasionally.

ADD taco seasoning mix and water; mix well. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 3 min.

DIVIDE lettuce among four plates. Top evenly with meat mixture, tomatoes, cheese and tortilla chips. Drizzle with dressing.

I have a different recipe...

Brown 1 lb ground meat, drain.
Add 1 packet taco seasoning (dry) to meat.
Mix meat, 1 can kidney beans, sliced black olives, shredded lettuce, 1 bag shredded cheese (about 3-4 cups), 4 tomatoes (diced), 1 bag of Doritos (crushed) together.

Add 1 jar large Picante sauce to mixture- mix well.

This is delicious and it makes A LOT!!!

I have a great one too!

1 lb of ground beef or turkey(I use turkey)
package of taco seasoning
1 chopped tomatoe
1 chopped green pepper
1 red onion chopped
about 1/2 can sliced black olives
romaine lettuce
8 oz of shredded cheese(cheddar, mexican, taco-whatever you like)
1/2 bag of Doritoes original
1/2 bottle of Catalina dressing(also called California Ranch)

brown the meat and add taco seasoning according to the package. I let it cool a bit and then mix all the ingredients together except the Doritoes and dressing. Right before serving, I crush up the Doritoes and add the Catalina dressing.

This is the one I use, except that I use Green Goddess dressing instead of picante sauce! YUMMY:thumbsup2

I make it with boneless chicken, I'm not a fan of cold ground beef... ick.

So I cube the cold chicken breast and toss it with some taco seasoning mix and then serve on the salad with salsa, corn, olives, sauted onions and peppers, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, broken up nachos and sour cream.

I had this at a cub scout meeting many many eons ago but it is still a family favorite.
Hamburger/ cook as much as you need 1-2 lbs or more depending on size of crowd
2 cans of kidney beans(not chili beans) cooked until mildly soft
Doritos or fritos(crushed) whichever you like(I prefer the fritos with this salad)
tomatoes/chopped
lettuce/ 1 head chopped
1 large bottle kraft thousand island dressing
shredded cheddar cheese/ 1 large package

I always add avocado to the ingredients that most of you are posting. Sometimes I will use guacamole as the dressing - that is really good.

Here's how I make it. It's a family favorite — but mostly in the summer!

1 head of lettuce, chopped
5-6 roma tomatoes, chopped
1 bunch green onions, thinly sliced
1 to 1.5 lbs hamburger, browned
1 package taco seasoning, added to browned hamburger according to recipe on package.
1 to 1.5 cartons sour cream, with another 1/2 package taco seasoning stirred in.
2 cups shredded cheddar

Mix all together. Chill. Serve with crushed tortilla chips on top.

As a Mexican I would like to ask...What is a taco salad?

I think it's something we dreamed up so that when we really are wanting tacos we can take the ingredients, mix in a little more lettuce, and feel like we're eating a "healthy" salad.;)

This is the closest to how I make taco salad, only I also add salsa, avocados, and a diced up MANGO. The mango really adds to the flavor. I also add a dollup on sour cream on top (DH doesn't like it though).

Thanks for the thread. This helped me decide what we're having for dinner tonight! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! I used this one for supper-

It was delicious! Because it made so much I didn't mix in the dressing and chips all together. We just each plated it then added our own dressing and chip. There's only 2 of us so I saved the rest for later!

I didn't realize it was a meal of it's own! So so good and will definately make again!

Thank you! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad that you liked it. In fact, it's a little ridiculous how excited I am that you used my recipe, lol! I am asked to bring this salad to everything.

Here's my version.

Lettuce, shredded
1 cup mild shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 can Chili beans, drained and rinsed
1 small bottle Catalina Dressing
1/2 to 1 (depends on how chippy you want it) Nacho Cheese Doritos

Makes a ton. I am always asked to bring this to get togethers with family and friends.

Penny

Here's my version:

Dressing: 1 C. Mayo
1 C. hot taco sauce
1 C. sour cream

Salad: 1 head lettuce
2 tomatoes diced
1 large can black olives sliced
1 medium onion diced
1 large bag shredded cheddar cheese

LOL!

The only thing I did change was not adding in the black olives. Not a fan of those!
