My sister & I purchased our annual passes since we will be going to WDW twice this year. After we got home we got to talking about getting TIW.
Does one need to purchase it along with the annual pass or can we wait and do so when we go back in September?
I may have more questions later on, since this would be our first time using TIW.
Thanks,
:)

You can get that at the park at Guest Services. That's what we do. You'll need to show you AP and ID.

We just came back from our first trip with our AP and TIW card. WOW...what a savings. ESPECIALLY if you have cocktails!! 20% is HUGE and it is so easy to use! You will love it!! It will definitely pay for itself and then some in the first trip.

You don't have to buy the TIW when you buy your AP. You can buy it any time as long as your AP is valid. The TIW will be valid for 12 months. It is not tied to the dates of your AP.

Other than Quick Service locations, where the automatic gratuity is not added, there is an 18% tip automatically added to all use of the card, whether in a restaurant or lounge (except V&A where it is 20%). And this is computed on the pre-discount price. The Sales Tax is computed after the discount.

And an AP holder may purchase TiW at any time while their AP is valid, even on the day it expires.

The validity seems to be the remainder of the month of purchase plus 13 full months.

I bought mine on Jan. 5th and was told it was valid until Feb. 29th of 2013. So it is really like 13 months!! EVEN BETTER!!! LOVE TIW!!!

I bought an AP in June 2010. I had a dining plan for that trip as well as the next trip so I didn't bother getting TiW. February 2011 we went again and that time we didn't use a dining plan but chose to buy TiW at that time. Our APs expired June 2010 but we were able to use our TiW in August 2011 and will use it again next month even though we don't have APs for these trips. When handing over my TiW card I have not been asked to show my AP. I needed it to purchase the card but not to use it after my AP expired.
