tables in wonderland

We are planning to purchase the TIW card for our first time in July, and for our trip next May.

As I understand, TIW offers 20% off all food -- including appetizers, desserts and kids meals, right?

Sometimes I just rather do soup, an appetizer and dessert so I was thinking TIW would work out better for us than the dining plan.
Yes, it's 20% off EVERYTHING at participating restaurants. For us, it DID work out better.

We've had the Tables in Wonderland card for several years now, and for us it's a great value! We typically eat 2 sit-down meals per day, so the dining plan isn't a really good fit with how we eat at Disney. We typically make up the cost of the card in 1 trip no problem!

We love our TIW card. We ask if we can use it for every meal, and, have been surprised as some of the quick service places that take it.

I know we saved a LOT more money than it costs this last trip. Don't forget that you get discounts in DTD too!

Can you use your TIW card in conjunction with the dining plan? For example, if we are on the regular dining plan but want to order appetizers and alcoholic drinks, could we apply the TIW 20% off on those items? Thanks!

We bought it when it was still $60 but once it went up it became to much of a stretch for it to be worth it for us. We like to eat at a few places that don't take it (Wolfgang Puck & T-Rex in DTD to name a couple) so it started to take too much planning to get our money back on it.

Wolfgang Puck Cafe does take TiW again....didn't for a year or two but it's back on the list. We just had a great lunch there on Thursday. Kudos to our server Stephanie. :goodvibes

Yes. :thumbsup2

I bought this in 2004 when i moved down here. It was worth it at first, but when the family stopped visiting so mch, it became too costly.

I was able to renew in 2008 for $65, but when I tried to renew last fall, I was told that there was no longer a seperate renewal rate - just and annual fee for FL res at the price of $90. I was told this at DTD Guest Relations & AK guest Relations. Annual pass price is $75. Needless to say, I did not renew...

Yes you can do this. I find it works best if you tell the server that you have both the DDP and TIW before you order. Remember that the TIW will have an automatic 18% tip added on so don't add another which I almost did last year. Then you will also have the tip on the dining plan portion. It saved us quite a bit.

Is it really worth buying this card? I haven't considered it in the past because we cook a lot in the villa, but we're staying in a studio for 10 days next year and I'm thinking it might be a good idea.

How much is the discount at the restaurants?

Others have already given you the specific numbers. But I would think that with a 10-day trip, you will definitely end up ahead of the game if you use the card. I don't think you mentioned how many in your party? That would definitely influence things--solo diner or party of 4, etc. Also, if you enjoy "adult beverages" it is far more likely to be worth it. Those add up, for sure! And this card also gives you the 20% discount on booze. :thumbsup2

We are a family of 5 and usually figure on about $100/day for food. We always have breakfast in the villa, have a mid-morning snack that we often bring with us, we have our "main meal" of the day around 3pm (which takes most, if not all of that $100), and then we just have light fare and snacks in the villa in the evening. So as long as our trip is 4 days or longer, we know the card works in our favor. And usually we have more than one trip per year, so it is a no-brainer at that point.

Hope you got all of the information you were looking for! :goodvibes

We hit our breakeven point on one 4 day trip - 2 A, 2 C. And we didn't eat at any signatures or anything that trip either. I think Akershaus, and maybe 3 other TS and CS at SSR and that's all it took to hit $375.

We consider TIW to be worth the price because we eat at table service restaurants and usually have wine with our evening meal.
However, hold on to your card. I left mine laying on a resort restaurant table on our last trip; the next day when I realized what had happened it couldn't be found and it cost $50.00 to replace it. Rediculous!

Wow, policy must have changed over the years we've had our TIW card. I can remember forgetting to even bring it, and instead calling the front desk, who then called someone (Disney reservations? guest services?) to look us up on the computer and print a letter for temporary use.

Our card has been worth it but I think only because we live close enough to go over for an evening to have a sit-down meal with wine.
