Table for two? No soup for you!

When I did a solo trip in July I booked 2 sit downs (GF Cafe and 50's PT) I could book a solo for GF cafe but had to book 2 seats for 50's and then modify. It took about 60 seconds extra, so not a big deal, at least IMO :)

Interesting. We are usually just two and don't really have issues with booking ~ although we likely aren't going for some of the toughest ones to get.
Even the hard to get ones aren’t hard with 2 people. It might require booking as 3 and knocking it down on check in but we’ve never had issues at all. Solo is much harder to get than 2 ime. (I usually book for 2 when solo)

I just finished up booking ADRs for our May trip this morning when our Poly window opened, and I found that Space 220 Lounge is actually easier to get with 2 people than 3. We had no issues at all before with just the two of us but with a 3rd person this time we could only manage to book an ADR for 2.

I'm another one who always booked for 2 when solo, then modified it to one or just told them at check in. Never a problem, and it was the same size table so it was OK. But now if we solos had to book for 3 or 4, then downsize, it might mean either a different table, and possibly waiting longer. Alternately, as a solo, I might get a table for 4 all to myself, which would be a little strange. Not only would I feel guilty at a larger table, but I'd also feel a little strange having 3 empty seats around me.

Couldn't get the time we wanted for 1900 Park Fare breakfast so booked it for 4, figuring I could then modify to 2 (as I have several times at other hard to get restaurants). But, for some reason it won't let me modify to 2 and keep the time I have. Still wants to give me the lousy options I had when I searched originally for 2. I'm going to keep trying to modify before our trip but it may just be a "day of" adjustment.

Yes it appears that you can't change the number of guests now without having to select a new time from scratch.

When did this start? I just booked dining reservations three days ago and had no problem modifying the number of guests to a lower number immediately after confirmation.

As a single I've always encountered very little availability for a 2-top but wide availability for more, What I've had to is use the higher count, book the desired time and after booking change it to the actual count. In the end I've always been seated at a 2-top no matter what the initial booking was.

I'm guessing it's for select restaurants. I usually have no issue modifying immediately after booking but after a couple weeks, I still can't modify my 1900 Park Fare from 4-2 and keep my preferred time.

Since this thread had just popped up again it reminded me to check again and I was actually finally able to change my 1900 Park Fare ADR from 4 to 2 people and keep my original time. Whew! I know it's usually okay to adjust the # upon arrival but I'm always nervous that will end up leading to an additional wait time.

Even if you can't it's not that big of a deal. You're not charged for the "ghosts". Maybe if they have enough 4-tops with 1 or 2 people at them they'll figure out that they need to keep more 2-tops. Or at least have tables that can separate into 2-tops or combine into 4-tops.

The one that's sucky is CRT since you have to pay in advance, but I've been advised on here to make the 2nd a child 2 or under so there's no charge.

In my experience it's always been a lot harder to get a reservation for 2 than for 3 or more. Booking for more people then editing it for less to get more times was a known trick for a while but I just tried to do it recently and it wouldn't work anymore. I only really changed it back to 2 as a courtesy, because if you book a table for 10 and show up solo they will still seat you without charging you for the other no-shows.

Are you using the website or the app? I tried the website for years & wasn’t able to. Another poster mentioned doing it on the app & that has worked every time.

Just confirmed with WDW rep that tables for two went away at lots of restaurants, reasons unknown (to the person I talked to). You have to reserve 3 and then modify to 2. My guess is that they weren't making enough $$$ with two guests at a 4-person table. Whatever, Disney.

That person doesn’t know what they’re talking about. We’ve usually been a party of 2 since about 2002. I’ve had to do the book for 4 trick for as long as I can remember. As for the tables, we go anywhere from 2-5 times a year & eat at table places every day we’re there. I haven’t noticed any change in table sizes in all those years. Some places have lots of 2:tops, some not so many. But it’s been that way forever.

Disney doesn’t charge for having less guests than your ADR was for. Do what everyone else has to do, book for 3 or 4 & just check in for 2.

Agreed. Disney should remove the option to modify your reservation. Make you cancel and rebook with the correct guest count.

There were no reservations for 2 available on any day at 60+7. However, every single day had every 15 mins all night long, start of dinner to end of dinner available for 3 at 60+ days. That is a stupid way of doing it. They either have a bad IT mistake or they are intentionally no longer allowing parties of 2 to dine at the restaurant. If that's what they chose, then just add a note to Le Cellier (and others) that say "no parties of 2 will be allowed". Otherwise, allow the reservations when tables are clearly available all night long for 3.

Don’t buy this what so ever. Booked tables for 2 everywhere with no issues. Couples make up a large portion also of guests.

I booked for 8 days in May at 60+7. It was true for Le Cellier, Via Napoli and Ohana. It was not true for any other places I booked. Those 3 were blocking parties of 2 from booking (at least that week in May). I just booked for 3 and modified (all had every 15 mins from open to close available for parties of 3).

Evidently Disney is willing to seat 3 guests on a 4 top but not 2.

Disney is half waying it. Enforcing such as a policy requires restrictions on lowering your party size in advance and when you show.

Posters say the existing policy on reservations is stupid since guests can easily modify their reservation. You could say the present policy is stupid because Disney lets you circumvent policy by modifying their reservation or showing up with fewer guests.

Is booking 6 but showing up with 2 OK?

Le Cellier used to have tables for 2. So either they removed them or for that week in May they were not allowing them to be booked. I don’t care if they don’t want reservations for 2, then just say that. Otherwise having to book for 3 and modify down (which they allow) is extra unneeded steps.
