Table 95 is a Terrible Table Assignment on the Fantasy

OK - before I tell my story, let me preface it by stating that our table assignment in no way "ruined" or vacation. We had a FANTASTIC week on the Fantasy & mostly laughed about how they tried to "sell" us on our table assignment.

Our dining rotation on the May 19 Eastern was RAERAER. On our first night, we headed to Royal Palace & handed the server seating us our table assignment. He fumbled around the restaurant for a while, and after asking two different servers where our table was, he finally turned to us and proudly stated "oh, you are in the PRIVATE ROOM" Its about this point that I begin to suspect that someone is about to pee on my leg & tell me its raining.

Sure enough, there is a little side room where you cant even see the rest of the restaurant & this is where our table was hidden. My wife leans over and tells me "clearly they've seen you eat before & are worried about you scarring the children"

We are VERY easy going people, and if it was only been the "private room" issue, I probably would not be posting this story. But the table is also right next to a fully exposed serving station. (not shielded from the guests' view in any way, shape, or form) Basically the rest of the night, we got to watch a parade of servers prepping the other guests' dinners - all the while a lovely pile of dirty dishes and unfinished food piled up about three feet away from us.

As mentioned, we are easy going and typically make the best of things so we did not ask for a new assignment or anything, but I did write about it on our comment card. Our cruise was not sold out & there were several empty tables during our dinning time. You would think that the "private room" tables would be the last ones they would utilize. Its not even like it was quiet in there.

Anyway, just wanted to give a heads up. We had Palo reservations on one RC night so we only had to eat dinner at that table twice. The rest of the time, we just joked about or wonderful "private room" & how lucky we were to get assigned there

In that case, just beware the words "private room" We heard it several times form multiple people & it became hard not to laugh out loud in front of them

We had table 94 on the cruise before yours and were in the "private room". It didn't bother us at all and we were so involved in table conversation that the open serving station didn't bother us at all. Pur cruise also wasn't sold out and there were empty tables in the main area. We just made a point to come back for lunch to sit in the main dining room.

DD and I explored RC one day towards the end of lunch to take pictures of the mosaics. We discovered the private rooms and loved the beautiful platters hanging on the wall with images of the prince and princesses on them. I thought that it was a shame so few people actually see them due to their location.

We had 96 on a different rotation than you and commented to each other that we got the short end of the table locations. We are easy going as well, so didn't make an issue out of it.

Table 21 on the Dream is in a bad location in all three dining rooms. In RP it's right inside the main entrance with people walking by constantly. In AP it's near another entrance, but the worst part is that it's next to a spot on the floor where everytime someone walked on it my chair felt like it was going to tip over. And in EG it's right next to a serving station at the very back by the buffet area.

I don't remember what my table number was now but we were also seated in this room on the Dream in Royal Palace. It was the table more forward of the room. I too hated it, dishes clanking everywhere & servers buzzing all around. It felt like the after thought table and it frustrated me a bit as I was already seated at what was clearly the "single mothers" table. And while yes I too am a single mother I would have preferred a more diverse mix of company. The other 2 kids at the table were several years younger than my son. The girls were adorable but they just annoyed my son...he's at that too cool for school age! LOL! They brought their stuffed animals to dinner each night.

I am happy you made the best of it and I wouldn't let it spoil my vacation either, however let me say this...

I am a hospitality interior designer and I design restaurants as a job, so to me this is pretty unacceptable. In an mid to high end restaurant, most facilities will go out of their way to design some sort of partition to enclose the station. Maybe there was supposed to be a table there and it was added in last minute design wise? Seems like poor space planning. If I laid out a dining room like that my boss would let me have it...just saying. Surprised the Imagineers did that.

On the classic ships the serving stations are right in the station area between tables. I liked the design on the Fantasy that allows you to see across the MDR without your view being obstructed by all of the stations.

Yes, that's still not a great design

the best way is in the back like the newer ships but adding a closing partition wall (half wall in front) to block the table. It takes a ways a little square footage but adds privacy to the table. Not sure why they didn't do that?

We had the same private room on the Dream. We hated it. It does feel like an after thought. It just didn't have the same feel as the MDR. Luckily we got to experience the MDR on the first part of our B2B cruise. We had changed servers for the second leg. Loved the new servers, just not that table. I wonder why it was designed like that?

This runs contrary to everything I've understood about how seating arrangements in the MDRs are handled.

That is so funny! I did the May 10th Dream, and I was in the "private room" in Royal Palace, too. I noticed that the walls had really no decor. Maybe the items that were supposed to hang on the wall were out for cleaning.

My table was near the entrance to the room, so I was able to glance over the shoulder of the person sitting across from me into the main dining room. I guess because we were a table of random parties of adults, we didn't rate the themed room.
