Is it common to run the ferries during severe storms?

We were on a ferry boat leaving MK after midnight last night during a torrential downpour. On arrival to the TTC dock we noticed lots of flashing lights from emergency vehicles as we were exiting.

I learned later that the boat before ours had crashed into the dock and several guests were injured.

I talked to another guest after getting back to the resort, who said she was a nurse and was onboard during the accident. She tended to some of the injuries and estimated about a hundred were hurt but none were life threatening.

I read online this morning that 19 went to the hospital.

Interesting and sad. For those who have been on board these ferry boats they make announcements that you should always remain seated or hold on to supports as they are free floating and do have a tendency to bounce around at times. Sounds like this was a pretty severe instance. Hope everybody is well.

Yes. On really busy days they'll use all 3.

I have been on the ferry plenty of times during rough weather, torrential downpours, the boats handle them just fine. It sounds to me it was either a new captain or inexperienced one.

The speed thing explains the extensive injuries. They even had a flipped stroller, my goodness...

No. The seats are just flat benches with no backs or sides and nothing to hold on to. If you’re standing against the rails, you can hold on to the rails. Everyone else is just standing with nothing to hold on to.

The nurse I talked to did tell me about the stroller that flipped over. The child was securely fastened and unhurt.

I am also reading where guests said that the CMs did say sit down and brace and they mentioned how parents didn't do anything and most of the kids had their faces buried in their phones.
