T2i Battery not holding charge

I've been busy in the last 3 minutes. :teeth:

I can get it at one of the Aussie suppliers at AU$799. Which is cheaper than me getting it in the US. I'm nearly pulling the trigger.

How are you going to rearrange your bag for it?

I think I have a similar range of lenses to you. Except I got the f/4 for the 70 - 200 range and the Canon 10 -22. I don't know if I want to take both the 18 - 35 and the 17 - 55 to the US.

Hmmm.......

Can I assume you can't just order from Amazon? Because that link Wilson Flyer sent included a link to this.

I can. Amazon pricing is in USD. The conversion rate at the moment is $0.90. So I immediately add 10% to my cost. And then there is the tax and shipping. The Aussie site includes tax and is in Aussie dollars.

I could ship it to my aunt in San Diego but I still have to factor in tax and dollar conversion.

The amazon price is better.

Okay. I just called the shop. Aussie websites are notoriously slow at updating availability and it was just as well I did so. The website might show available but the kind voice at the end of the phone told me Canon mount not available until end November.

And the price is $779 Aussie; which makes it super tempting.

You took my decision to stay with a crop sensor as a personal challenge, didn't you? :lmao:

Geez, that 6D bundle looked like a pretty sweet deal.

I will NOT look......I will NOT look.....

(it is very sweet isn't it??)

I don't have a clue how I'm going to integrate the lens into my lineup (or bag!). I just know that I want to use it to try shooting dark rides with a wider lens than my 30mm f/1.4 (which I might end up selling). I also want to shoot the Christmas parade at night with it.

I figured they're so hard to come by these days that if I'm not in love with it after the trip, I could get most of my money back out of it on resale.

So did you order one?

I called every reputable camera store in Australia that also has an online store in the last 30 minutes. Would you believe that there is a store in Perth that has ONE in-stock?

My credit card is still burning!!!

Let's hope that the sales girl over the phone told me the right thing. If it's on back order I'm going to be really annoyed.

With shipping, I get the lens for Australian $760. Converting into USD, that's just under $700 (including tax). :thumbsup2

Fingers crossed it arrives in the next two weeks or so.

You got an awesome deal! :thumbsup2 If I end up replacing my 17-55, I'm letting you do the shopping for me. :p

I'm going to be in SoCal in mid October. Let me know if you want me to do the arbitrage thing.....but you might have to factor in a trip to DLR to pick up the goods. ;)

So.....back to the point of the thread......is your battery still holding charge?

And what about the XTi?

Well, if I HAVE to...... :teeth:

I'm getting very close to declaring it a lens issue. The T2i has the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 mounted and 3 days later still shows full charge.

Meanwhile, earlier today I charged up the old Xsi and mounted the lens in question. That will take a few days to see if it drains that one. If it does, then I'll consider the mystery part of this solved. What to do about it is another matter entirely.

Canon charges $230 for an internal repair. I know because that's what they charged me to clean the interior. I am pretty sure the problem started right after I got it back, but I ignored it for a while thinking I was imagining it or that it was just an old battery. It didn't even register that it was a problem for a while. I'd have a really hard time fronting another $230 to fix something I suspect them of causing.

If it's any consolation, the price in Australia is $250.

I accidentally dropped my lens about this time last year and it died 6 days into vacation last year. Turns it I had cracked an internal ring that cost less than $10. I wasn't happy when I found out how much Canon charged just to open it up and swap the part out. :headache:

I hope you get some joy from them on that front.

That site cost me a WAD.

3 months ago, I had a 60D and a T2i. Now I am the proud owner of a 6D, a 70D and the T2i.

I couldn't convince myself to buy the 6D so I bouhgt a 70D. 2 weeks later, and just a week before my last trip to WDE, I sucked it up and bought the 6D with the 24-105 bundle. Never looked back. One week at WDW with it and I was convinced I had done the right thing.

Happy and broke. :)

I recently got the 70D, 18-35 sigma and the Canon grip. I plan on this being my walk-around set-up on my Dec. trip to WDW. It`s a wonderful setup but it is quite heavy. I`m wondering how it`s going to feel after 12-14 hours around my neck. I plan on using a Crumpler "Industry Disgrace" which I love but due to the weight I am considering other options. I will also have a Lowpro 300 on my back with a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS, Tamron 17-50 2.8, Tokina 11-16 2.8, Roadtrip tri-pod and other stuff.

I saw lots of tutorials online of how to open that lens up and dust it out yourself, but I just got a pit in my stomach even considering doing that. And I use that lens so much, it just seemed like something I didn't want to take a risk on. But I'm still quite skeptical about the fact that a previously problem-free lens all of a sudden started having some sort of internal problem after sending it for internal cleaning.

Battery (with a different lens attached) is still going strong this morning. So I called Canon to see what they thought. They are sending me a label to send it back in (so I won't be out shipping) and will take a look at it. That's not a promise they'll pay to fix it, but at least I'll get their take on it without laying out any cash.

LOL, hook.....line...... SINKER! What an amazing lineup you have though. :thumbsup2

That 18-35 lens really isn't a lightweight. I'll have to see what I think after a week in Disney. It's likely to just be a specialty lens for me. Or it might end up being a short-term lens. I might sell it when I get back, depending on how much I love it. But given how popular it's been lately, I didn't think I could count on being able to rent one when I need it for the trip.

Interesting. I pick a single lens every day mostly based on the park I'm visiting and what I intend to shoot primarily that day. I never take my bag, well, at least not since my DD9 graduated from her stroller (my mule :rotfl2:). I use a Black Rapids and I've walked around all day with a Canon 2.8 70-200 hanging off a 60D and a 6D and have never had a real problem.

Do I get tired of it being there? Of course, until I want to use it and then I remember why I do it. :)

I probably wouldn't bother with the grip while at WDW. It's nice to be able to change orientations easily, but I'm not convinced the added weight it worth it.
