T-Shirt Autograph Questions

I was thinking of a cool Christmas gift for my nephews. I was going to bring plain white t-shirts for the characters to sign. I was also thinking of ironing-on pictures that they may take with the characters.

Will there be a problem getting the characters to sign 3 shirts? I'll have them set and ready for signature ahead of time. Also, there may be times where I'm the only one in line getting an autograph. Will this be a problem? Is there any special types of markers I should use? Should I pre-wash the shirts?

Thanks for your help!!

1) Yes, pre-wash.
2) Use a fat "Sharpie".
3) Put cardboard inside to make a hard surface.
4) Three signatures *probably* wouldn't be a problem.

I did this for my kids when I went to WDW this past January! I bought two mostly-white Disney t-shirts in the first park I visited, and then collected 29 autographs on each over the next week. I bought a set of four different fabric pens, but a permanent marker should work equally well. I liked getting different colors for the different characters -- villians in red, for example. The shirts ended up looking so colorful and cheerful!

There was never any problem at all getting the autographs. What we did was to hold the fabric firmly at opposite corners, and the characters could write on the taut area. Some, like Buzz Lightyear, placed it on a hard surface to sign (because he has a stamper with his autograph).

Great idea!! I bet your nephews love it!:sunny:

I was thinking of picking up 3 embrodery circles and setting the shirts up that way. Would this work? Also, what kind of fabric pens do you use? Where can you buy those?

okay im a big dork, but i will ask anyways --haha..would they sign just like a big piece of paper...i have some disney stuff in my room and thought it would look cute to get a big piece of paper framed and hung in my room....sound okay?

thotfulspot,

What type of fabric pens did you use? Where can I find these?

TheRustyScupper,

Does Sharpies come in other colors besides black? When you say fat sharpie, do you mean the width of the pen or the size of the point?

Thanks everyone!!!

You can probably find fabric pens at a craft store or maybe even Walmart. We used sharpie markers and they ran a little in the wash. So, I would recommend getting the fabric pens.

I've heard of using the embroidery hoops for this somewhere else and I think that would work the best. It will keep the fabric taught and will ensure the character signs the shirt exactly where you want.

I think they will sign anything you want except body parts. A blank sheet of paper should cause no problems at all. But bring something to serve as a hard surface for them to bare down on - a clipboard might be good.

Sharpie pens will not work when they are washed. You can get FAT fabric markers at any craft store. I've been using the same set since 1999. You might want to bring a piece of cardboard to slip in between the cloth so it doesn't bleed onto the other side. I've had better luck getting hats signed, they don't have to be washed when they are worn and last longer. As for being aproblem, I have had comments made when the kids get books and/or a hat signed from a character. Usually we do one or the other, it's the other guests not the characters who complain.
