Swollen tonsil

I was posting to see if this has ever happened to anyone else. Night before last, I felt like something was stuck in the back of my throat. I looked in the mirror and my uvula (the hangy-thing-in-the-back-of-the-throat) was swollen and kept touching the back of my tongue.
This has happened twice before: when I had strep in 2000 and about 6 weeks ago when I had another bacterial infection. It has now happened again. I went to the doctor yesterday. Not really any other symptoms than that. He did a blood test and said that white blood cells were fine so he doesn't think it's another bacterial infection. He gave me a shot (I think for inflammation) and some Allegra.
The past 2 times that I have had the shot, it has reduced the inflammation right away. But not this time. Now the tonsil on one side is also swollen.
Dr wasn't sure what it was. He asked if I had been painting or cutting grass (which I haven't)
Has anyone else ever had anything like this.
Sorry so long!
Erin

My tonsil pockets sometimes "swell" and I get that lump in the throat feeling. The pockets actually fill with debris and form a tonsilolith. A few times pieces of this stuff will come out on it's own. These cause bad breath also. I irrigate the pockets using a Waterpik on the lowest setting.

If your Doctor has done throat cultures and these are negative you might ask your Dentist to check the area also.

Just a suggestion.

Hmmm, this could very well be what it is. I started having this problem right after eating. I will check with my dentist if it does not get better in a couple of days.
Thanks,
Erin
